  • "We arrived to find a spotless and very well equipped house, with towels ready on each bed."

There was a very helpful folder of infomation about the house and area. We had a little difficulty working out how to use the TV (we found it worked on HDMI2) and it was a little strange having to go into the bathroom to wash our hands after going to the toilet but we got used to it. Suggestions for the single bedroom would be to swap the bed round the other way so that the bedhead doesn't bang a little onto the wall between that bedroom and the double bedroom when someone turns over in bed, and maybe shave the top of the door so that the door shuts properly. Suggestions for the house would be to mention that there is a hairdryer in the property and to add a soft internal broom for the floors downstairs rather than the garden broom that is there. Would any of these little things stop me staying in the house again? Absolutely not! A lovely house in a beautiful peaceful location with the most gorgeous beaches I've seen in some time just a short distance away. The owner was extremely helpful, especially as we booked our holiday at very short notice, and the cleaners were so efficient that they were there on the doorstep as we were about to leave. We had a wonderful time.

  • "Property was warm, comfortable and well-equipped."

When we had a problem with lost keys, the owner and family were very helpful in getting it sorted out. Many thanks for that. The only reason that we have not given top marks for accuracy of listing is that the designated car parking space is down an unmade track which we did not want to use, and at night the on-road parking was short on spaces. However we would use this house again.

  • "The house was very pleasant and accommodated 5 people easily, one of the problems we encountered was that the master bedroom door won't close and as we were 2 families sharing the property it was a bit awkward."

When we arrived at the property we were surprised to find that there was no washing up liquid and only one toilet roll which is unusual in a Sykes cottage we are used to them being slightly better equipped. Overall a good stay.

  • "On arrival we found that the property hadn't been cleaned/prepared for our arrival, the bath was still full of the previous tenants dirty linen."

I contacted the owner, who responded straight away, and got in touch with cleaners, who said there had been a mix up with the the days. The owner did offer to pay for us to go out and have a meal while everything was sorted, we were not comfortable with doing this, only just having arrived after a busy weekend and not knowing the area, but we went offf to a local beach and had a picnic in our car until we could return. We finally got into the property at 8.45 pm. We understand that mistakes can happen, but with Covid-19, a thorough clean is obviously essential. The owner also offered to sort out some compensation, but we haven't received anything yet.

However garden let it down slightly, grass needed cutting and fence panel down! Also there wasnt any instructions regarding the bins - we were a bit confused with what went where in terms of recycling.

  • "We were not able to access the property until 6pm due to cleaners being late to clean once there they only cleaned for 45 minutes not acceptable especially as we are experiencing a coronavirus situation."

A deeper clean should have been carried out. The property could do with some TLC ceilings have big cracks in them and the paint work is tired. The electric sockets are loose, the main bedroom window has a huge bloom in it so looks horrid. The toilet is separate to the main bathroom but has no hand washing sink (hygiene issue) The kitchen had no dishwasher, cheese grater, jug, pint glasses or dustpan and brush. The fire extinguisher was in a box in the cupboard under the stairs this should be easily accessible (on the wall in kitchen) Bedroom curtains would be better if lined with black out material or a blind added to the windows. We could not dine outside as their was a parked car blocking the Garage door all week where the patio set was stored. The welcome pack needs updating with more info regarding the hot water etc and the area maps should be added to it. The grass was very long in the front and back garden which made the area not very inviting. There was also a large amount of general rubbish piled in the side entrance. Not something you want to be greeted with especially after paying a large amount of money for one weeks break. We have booked through Sykes several times and never been as disappointed as we were this time.

  • "Appalling! Property was still in condition left by previous guests."

Towels in bath, beds still with old bedding, bins full and filthy windows, shower screen and sink. Behind the beds had thick grime and dust on skirtings and carpet. We had to clean everything and make all of the beds. Had we not bought perishable food, we would have driven home. Disgusting. We have contacted the owner who has been reasonable, but Sykes should have some idea of the rubbish being let out and for my hard earned money too! Just dreadful and for someone who desperately needed a holiday, it was hugely disappointing. Horrible. I won't be using Sykes again.

  • "We have just spent a week in this lovely house Swansea is a beautiful place and we had great weather we would definitely return."

There were a few minor things that I would recommend which are a non stick frying pan I have to say it was awful I have seen this in previous reviews but really thought it would have been replaced by the time we came. Could really do with some Prosecco glasses to as what is there are very cheap plastic ones that you would usually dispose of after a bbq could also benefit from a pizza cutter. I am not sure if the owner checks the house after the cleaning company have been in and it was by no means dirty but it seems they just do a general tidy rather than a proper clean as there were things that looked like they hadn’t been wiped in a while this is only constructive criticism as these would make a big difference to some. Also remember your own condiments tea /coffee ect. Overall this is a lovely family home very spacious and light with only 10 min walks to stunning views the above are just minor things I think would help improve people’s stay.

  • "I stayed here for a week with my husband and one year old daughter."

The property was in a good location for us and the local shop a short walk away was handy. Communication with the owner was good. Overall, the property was a good size, bright, spacious and had all the facilities we needed for a week’s stay, however there were a few issues which if addressed would encourage us to stay again in the future. The windows were dirty outside and inside. The window in the master bedroom had large cloudy white stains from water damage and condensation preventing a clear view. Whilst it probably did not impact on its functioning, it was upsetting to look at and we kept the curtains closed for the whole trip which was again quite upsetting given it turned out to be a beautiful sunny week and one would have enjoyed sitting in the bedroom with the sun shining through clear clean windows. The bedrooms were well sized and the beds comfortable although the pillows were very flat. The curtains were very sheer and did little to keep the light out during early mornings - some black out curtain linings would have been useful. The bathroom was a good size but the bathtub and shower screen had not been cleaned properly and there was pink mould on the shower screen. The kitchen had all the basic cooking items we needed although as another reviewer noted, it would be good to have at least one non stick pan. The living areas were spacious and there was a TV although unable to access on demand services as this had not been set up. There was a radio but no batteries so we could not use that. Again as another reviewer noted, the lawn was more weeds than grass. There was garden furniture, however the table and chairs were very dirty and covered in grass cuttings so we did not use it. All in all, for the price we paid, we pretty much got what we expected and if some of the above issues could be addressed, in particular the window and cleanliness issues, we would book again and recommend to others.

  • "We were looking for a base from which we'd go to various beaches and eating places ."

.. this property was pretty well spot on. So near to Pobbles and Three Cliffs Bays and a short drive from Oxwich and Caswell Bays. Bakery within a couple of miles and (when the weather wasn't brilliant - we picked a mostly 'dull' week) a drive into Swansea for 10-pin bowling and cinema helped to make up for not being able to go to a beach. The property was extremely clean (thank you, cleaning people!!) and on entry to the property, the ambience was very much appreciated. The fact that we didn't need to take towels (for the house) and sheets etc was a huge bonus. Our family enjoyed the nostalgia of visiting The Gower again (haven't been for around 6 years). The instructions given to us (from Sykes and from the owner) were invaluable; the directions to the property, also. All in all (apart from the unfortunate wet, dull weather for maybe 5 days) we had a super time - many, many thanks!!! We will definitely return next year!!!

  • "Kitchen - needs at least one non-stick pan, non-stick frying pan, cleaning brushes very worn, tea towels threadbare."

No dustpan and brush available Dust behind doors, window ledges and beds. One bed appeared to have been used as very crumpled If showering unable to flush toilet or run the tap as water went cold Toilet brush needs replacing, suggest disposable type Garden lawn overgrown, men arrived to cut it on Friday 6pm when we were leaving the next morning. Weeds ++ Unable to access garden furniture if there was any in the garage as wood and weeds in front of it and door looked precarious to try and open Location was good for accessing coast path, car needed though

  • "The house was beautifully clean and the perfect size for our party."

Although the numbering system on the estate was a bit confusing on arrival, once we were there it was easy to navigate. The house has wifi, a new BT box and even with the heating off the house was very warm and cosy. Only (very minor) downside was the shower, it is not very powerful and the temperature was a bit hit & miss at times. If we are visiting the area again we will definitely be checking availability for this house.
