“The flat was spacious, very comfortable and reasonably well equipped.”

But when we arrived, it felt as if the cleaner had simply not had sufficient time to do the job required. The toilet and shower were immaculate, and the kitchen worktops were spotless. But when we arrived, it felt as if the cleaner had simply not had sufficient time to do the job required. The toilet and shower were immaculate, and the kitchen worktops were spotless. But the dining and coffee tables were covered in crumbs and grime, and the kitchen bin lid was covered in food residue. The floors had been washed, but not swept, so a fine layer of dust/sand was stuck to the floor throughout - the floor mop itself was abandoned in the living area. We had to wash half the mugs and most of the cutlery before we felt we wanted to use them - something we've never encountered in any holiday let. We were also puzzled by the fact that a duvet cover had been used instead of a bottom sheet. As was not big enough to tuck in round the mattress, it rumpled and tangled very easily, and was generally irritating. These issues did not spoil our holiday and our overall impression of the flat was favourable, but it seems a shame that a place which could be fabulous is spoiled by such a lack of attention to detail. PS - it might be worth asking the owner to check the lock on the door of the flat. It was misaligned, and gave a general impression of not being particularly secure. As the external door was frequently left open by the other occupants of the building, this did give us some cause for concern. --------------- OWNERS REPLY - As soon as I read your comments I got in touch with the cleaning company to find out what had happened. It appears they did not use the usual cleaner for your changeover. I am very sorry for the cleanliness issues you found due to this (we do value cleanliness highly and feel bad that this was your experience). This situation has now been rectified and the usual high standard cleaner is back at the property from next week. Apologies again.
