  • "Gellifor is situated up Ffordd y Cwm, a steep and narrow road in St Dogmaels."

There is plenty of room to turn your car around and park by the property. The views from the property are superb. The key safe is easy to find and open without trying to open the very awkward metal gate. The welcome pack was a basic selection to start you off on your stay, no milk or bread or eggs though. The kitchen is well equipped with plenty of cutlery, pots, pans, crockery etc. Excellent fridge with a small freezer compartment and good oven and hob. However the bread board requires replacing, as it is splitting, and the wooden spoons need renewing. The kitchen and lounge both have the lovely view of the Teifi estuary. The en suite bedroom has a comfortable bed though the pillows need replacing as they are rather unsupportive. One pillow didn’t have a pillow protector on and the mattress protector had an old blood spot on it. The navy blue throw which had been put on the bed had muddy dog pawprints on and dog hairs. Yes I was aware that this is a dog friendly property when I booked but this is still unacceptable. I put the throw in the bath with a note that it required a wash! The main bathroom has an excellent shower. The tv and wifi reception were good. The leather sofas are a little past their best as they are a tad saggy, particularly the two seater. The owners may like to consider either replacing the lounge cushions or just buying some new fillers as the blue ones are flat almost! The outside of the property as you arrive looks untidy with various chairs and a table, and the door step, even though safe to use, was unbrushed. I didn’t venture into the garage where the washing machine and dryer are situated, so cannot comment on these. All the small radiator drying racks need replacing as they are way past their best, paint coming off and a bit rusty. The instructions for recycling at this property are confusing. There is a bin for recycling goods but no information on what the council recycles. No lid on the blue bin so paper and card would get sopping wet. In the end we just brought everything home that our local council recycles and put it in our own bin!The black bin for non recycled waste and the blue bin are at the front of the house and not at the side as the instructions imply. I opened the post box and put the post in the kitchen, it had rained very heavily and the post had got wet. This property must have been wonderful when it was first let, and could be again with just a little tlc, a few things renewed, and a bit of tidying up. Despite the few niggles we still enjoyed our time at the property and in the area regardless.

We have stay in many Skye's cottages over the years some excellent and just ok sadly gellifor was in the just ok category Location it was perfect for local shops pubs etc and walks Unfortunately when we arrived at gellifor we spent time hovering up the many cobwebs and trying to clean the very dirty shower tray in the main bathroom we did have a problem with the lights in the lounge which was fix by the owner very quickly but sadly whole cottage is starting to feel tired in places which is a shame With a bit of TLC gellifor would be a 5 star cottage with it's amazing views and facilities would make a fantastic place to stay The welcome pack is the best we ever had in all the cottages we've stayed Enjoy

. We booked Gellifor on the spur of the moment, really glad we did, we had a lovely four days there ( should of booked longer). It was comfortable with enough space for two and two dogs, It felt home from home, had all we needed, with comfortable beds, ( which is must can't stand a rock hard bed) 10/10. The only down side maybe is the garden fence and block up the hole in the hedge, which one of my dogs found and went missing looking for birds,. The hill could be mission, but worth the wiew, and quiet position. Will be back for longer next time. ☆☆☆☆

Could do with more worktop space when self catering and an additional shower but that’s no biggie. Only complaints were the info around bins and recycling was confusing and it wasn’t clear where the washing machine was - took us a couple of days to pull curtains back in main bedroom to find them

  • "We love staying at Gellifor, have been several times and will definitely be coming again."

It's a super property, ideal for a good holiday. Seeing that we're satisfied customers, may I give two pieces of constructive criticism? The master bedroom gets quite cold because the double doors into the garage are only single-glazed, and the garage only has a corrugated roof. In addition, there is a chest of drawers in front of the only radiator. The other thing is the living room, it could be made a little more cosy with a rug and either (washable) throws on the sofas or even new sofas. Being a dog-friendly property, we understand the need for floors and furniture that's easily cleaned, but with the very high ceiling, it tends to feel a bit stark. But those are not complaints and we'll be returning!

  • "Great cottage in a quiet location in St Dogmaels."

Very clean with excellent equipment. Bedding and towels were top quality for a rental. Bit of a stretch for a view over the Teife estuary, however, there is a view which can be seen from the living room window. The cottage is situated at the end of a cul-d-sac with only three other houses. Great walks from the cottage down to the village and surrounding area. The garden is secure for larger dogs who aren’t that inquisitive, however, for smaller dogs they may well find several escape routes. There is a very comprehensive information folder that could be updated to reflect more accurately the St Dogmaels market on Tuesdays (times are incorrect), also there is some recycling during bin collections, which is not reflected in the pack.

It is clean, spacious and comfortable with a very pretty garden. The location is great with lovely walks from the door. St Dogmaels itself is quaint and nearby Cardigan is a lovely bustling town with lots of independent shops and excellent cafes. All in all a well appointed and very well located cottage that we would certainly return to.

  • "We had a lovely holiday at Gellifor."

The village is charming. There were great views from the windows and garden. It was beautiful weather for our fortnight and we explored the countryside and local beaches. The property is comfy and well kept. Lots to like. The beds are excellent, as was the bath. The bunk bed room could have been more childproofed but we do have a lively 2 year old! He is also an escape artists so two different gates at the front posed slight problems but this would be an asset for some people! Memories will be of the beauty of the garden full of roses and also the wild flowers in the countryside and village which seemed to be everywhere. We were impressed by the local footpaths and lanes which were good for exploring on a run. Maps and leaflets also were helpful and the handbook for the property was excellent.

  • "The cottage was much better then we expected after reading the reviews."

Bathrooms were new, everything worked and property seem to be painted recently. The space worked well for the 6 of us and the two dogs and the garden was big enough and well looked after. The property also is very practical with a large roofed area in front of the entrance to leave wellies and wet gear. The view was beautiful and the town great. So overall I feel it was very good value for money and I stayed in a property were people cared about their guests. Some reviews mentioned that access by car is difficult. I think if you go to Cornwall or Wales, you have to expect small roads. We have a large estate car and had no issues.

  • "These are comments, not criticisms and should be taken in the context of; we enjoyed our stay in the area and the main criteria for us is that we would return to the same property if we revisited the area."

However, the blurb doesn't mention that next door is a decrepit looking bungalow with rubbish and waste bins strewn everywhere and is inhabited by strange people, not a good impression ! The impression given is that this a quiet, private property, but there is someone elses garden immediately behind the property, the view to the estuary is minimal and traffic from a nearby road is easily heard. Access to the property from the the town is a rat run of parked vehicles and the final 200 yards is very narrow and twisty - care must be taken when driving. Inside; Whilst it didn't bother us unduly, the previously mentioned cobwebs in the lounge really shouldn't be there in a property that's touted as being upmarket and isn't cheap to rent. There is mould in the sealant around the bottom of the shower and this looks pretty disgusting and should be redone. The bath encourages water spillage between it and the wall and is therefore smelling of damp under the bath. The property is expected to be handed back in clean condition, so the tools provided to do that should be maintained in better condition. The brush head in the Dyson was clogged with fibres which I had to remove in order to get it to pick up properly and ther was no crevice attachment for it. The whole property lacks any sound deadening e.g rugs (understandable) but that makes for an echo chamber and partly due to that we had to use subtitles on the TV because the sound was dreadful. The faux leather settees in the lounge are uncomfortable and slippery. The kitchen is poorly laid out and lacks workspace. There are a few other niggles as well, but having said the above, we understand that this is a rental property and will never be kitted out and furnished in the same way we'd like our own house to be. On the plus side, the property was well kitted out. Instructions on how to operate everything seemed to be in place. The heating worked well and it was easy to warm up the property. The bed in the main bedroom was very large and comfortable and the bedlinen and also the bathroom towels etc were of good quality. The big bonus for us was the property having a bath, which was one reason we chose it. We only have a shower at home, so my wife, who has auto immune conditions, found that having a bath was bliss and helped her condition.

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback, after your stay in October 2021. You will be pleased to know that the property has undergone a thorough spring clean, especially the bathroom and the sitting room, kitchen/dining room and main bedroom have been repainted. The owners have also cut back the hedges to improve the view. We do hope we can welcome you back to this lovely part of west Wales. Property Owner

Unfortunately we were not happy with the cleanliness. There were cobwebs everywhere which should have been removed and under the sofa was filthy. The grass had not been cut. A chair in the lounge needs repairing and the sofa has had a stain on it for years. Lovely new curtains everywhere and very well stocked as always. We love this cottage but it would benefit from a bit of tlc.

  • "A clean, comfortable property that met our expectations."

We had an issue with the cooker that was not working when we arrived. We called the cleaner's number and were informed in an answerphone message that 'non-emergencies' would only be covered in office hours. We left a message explaining the situation. We heard nothing back over the weekend. We rang the owners' phone number on Saturday evening and again on Sunday. No one picked up our call and there was no answerphone to leave a message. I rang the cleaner at 10.00am on Monday to repeat the message that the cooker was off and we didn't know where the switch was to put it on. By this stage we had not had a hot meal since Friday evening. We were eventually informed that the cooker switch was on the kitchen wall behind the microwave - it wasn't. By further investigation I found the cooker switch on the opposite wall in the kitchen behind the tall fridge freezer, totally obscured from view. In order to move the fridge freezer away from the wall, I had to first empty all the contents from the fridge and freezer to locate the cooker switch. We were very disappointed that 1) the previous occupant had gone to the trouble of switching off the cooker at the hidden wall point and not communicated this to the cleaner and 2) that neither the cleaner nor the owner were available to talk to us over the weekend. Effectively this completely spoilt the start of our holiday, as there were no local facilities available to provide us with a hot meal. The local fish & chip shop was closed until Tuesday and the village pub has been closed for the last two years. Other that this particular issue over the lack of available communication with the owner and cleaner, the property was very comfortable, clean and met our expectations and we would recommend it to our friends.

  • "Our stay at Gellifor was such a welcome break in relaxing, peaceful and very well equipped and decorated surroundings."

The cottage was spacious with a lovely view over the Teifi Estuary and an abundance of clematis in the garden. We did have a slight problem on arrival in locating the property, but soon resolved. It is however up a steep narrow lane which means it can be difficult to walk to places without driving, depending on mobility. This wasn’t a problem as we were happy to get in the car and there was plenty of parking in St. Dogmael’s itself, which is definitely worth a visit. We did have to use the central heating more than anticipated due to the cold, wet May weather and the cold stone floors. These must be a great advantage in warm weather though, and are very easily cleaned and sanitised. The cottage had everything we needed, and more! It would easily accommodate a family of six, with 3 ample bedrooms, large dining room and a large separate lounge. There were even dog toys in a basket!

The location was great - nice and peaceful but not too far from facilities. The garden is nice and has a lovely view, although it was a bit chilly to sit out much during our stay. The only trivial things I could comment negatively about were that the log basket only contained one log (although the log burner was not required as the central heating works perfectly) and a soap dish in the shower would be useful. But these are minor things and did not detract from our holiday

About the location

ST DOGMAELS

Cardigan 1 mile.

St Dogmaels is an ancient and tranquil village nestling peacefully around its ruined abbey at the mouth of the River Teifi on the totally unspoiled west Wales coast. One of its attractions is Y Felin, one of only two working watermills in Wales and retains the machinery installed in 1820. It is thought the mill was originally built by the monks of St Dogmaels' 12th century Abbey. The miller shows how the mill works and bread, flour and cakes can be purchased from the mill or you can enjoy tea and cakes and light lunches in the Coach House Café nearby. An award winning local produce market is held here every Tuesday and is well worth a visit. The village has a pub, a fish & chip shop, a Post Office, a cafe and a small museum at the abbey. There is also a pretty green and a millpond with ducks. Cardigan, a delightful ancient market town, is just over a mile away. This ancient town sits on the estuary of the River Teifi at the base of Cardigan Bay. Its unspoilt townscape and rich heritage provide a nostalgic backdrop to a thriving culture of arts and crafts, events and music festivals. Nearby is the wonderful Poppit Sands where you can relax on sunny days or enjoy invigorating walks in the cooler months, as well as exploring the beautiful Pembrokeshire Coast Path. St Dogmaels is the start or finish of the 186 mile Pembrokeshire Coast Path from St Dogmaels to Amroth. Visit Castell Henllys, the Iron Age Fort where everyone is encouraged to learn the ancient way of living, or visit the wonderful Shire Horse Farm to see how farming was before tractors. The Cardigan Bay dolphins can be seen off the bay on a regular basis and more active pursuits can be found at Cardigan Bay Active, including surfing, wildlife trips or coasteering. With scenic coastal, riverside and countryside walks and an array of other beaches and attractions all close by, this is a perfect holiday location all year round.
