  • "A lovely cottage in a fantastic location."

Only issue we had, hence the score, was with the oven, which didn't work. Thankfully the grill did.

  • "Stunning woodland location."

Owner allows you to wander the woods and this time we saw and heard a stag with his retinue. Stress levels immediately reduced on arrival. Also very good for bird watching and dark skies.

  • "A lovely, cosy cottage in the beautiful Wye Valley."

Facilities were good but there was nowhere to dry the towels, there was a washing line but no pegs, we were using damp towels, so a heated rail would be good and a small supply of pegs. We found it a bit chilly in the evenings. The bed was very comfortable and it was very quiet except for the sounds of wildlife which was great. I did struggle on the last morning to get the car up the steep hill as it kept skidding on the leaves. I would certainly recommend this for couples. There are plenty of places to visit without having to use your car if you are keen walkers

The bathroom could do with a bit of tlc getting in and out of the bath is very awkward, when having a shower if you have short legs!!! Owners very friendly and helpful. A couple of nice areas to sit and relax. Thank you

  • "The Generals Cottage is at a wonderful location with a great view of the valley."

There are plenty of interesting walks, starting at your doorstep. The owners are friendly and helpful and respect your privacy. The cottage itself however is a bit small and can’t really accommodate four people. Since there were just two of us this didn’t pose a problem.

  • "The location was beautiful, the cottage being set in a lovely garden with views over the Wye Valley."

Sitting in the garden enjoying the peace and quietness was a major feature of the holiday. There are many very interesting places to visit nearby, including Chepstow, Raglan and Goodrich castles and Tintern Abbey, all very picturesquely situated. There are also very nice places to eat and drink within easy driving range. The house is rather small for four adults and is better suited for 3 people. The second bedroom was very cramped for two adults. However, these were minor problems as far as we were concerned and we had a very enjoyable stay.

  • "Despite the rather damp weather we enjoyed a relaxing week in and around this cosy property which is in a delightful, peaceful spot looking across the Wye Valley and surrounded by nature."

Could be a little too cosy for four people, but perfect for a couple. Wonderfully comfortable beds! Owners Paula & Tom very helpful but not intrusive.

  • "The cottage is in a beautiful setting, surrounded by nature (we were greeted with deer darting through the woods one morning)."

Really tasteful decor, two very comfortable double beds (haven’t slept so well in ages!) and all you could need in the kitchen. There’s also a Firestick meaning you have access to Netflix and Amazon Prime etc. We had a fantastic week visiting nearby castles and NT properties… lots of history in the surrounding area. Our hosts couldn’t have been more helpful and friendly. Highly recommend this lovely cottage.

  • "The cottage is in a lovely location the lane steep but fine."

It does have a small patio area where you are able to sit out. The owners were also kind in allowing us to share a section of their garden. Whilst the cottage does not accept pets it was lovely to see the owners dogs and the puppies running around and chasing each other. The owners house is a couple of 100 m away should you need help. We had a lovely weather even for a British summer which was great as heating is only available in the winter months, though there was a note to say if we needed heating we could ask. A bottle of milk and biscuits were left for us which was very welcome as we had had a long day we arrived 30 minutes early and did apologise however the owner was at the cottage informed us they entry was not until four o’clock and we would need to wait as the cottage was not ready, as her cleaner had let her down. The area is a lovely area for walking and exploring quiet footpaths.

  • "Really liked this out of the way cabin."

Everything we could need for our stay was provided including eggs and milk, and there were instructions for how to work the appliances as well as wood for the stove. It's picturesque, gorgeously remote and so beautiful we were overwhelmed. Thoroughly enjoyed the stay. The only tip we had was to share a Google maps pin to the location to help people navigate their way there - although the directions were helpful we still got hopelessly lost at least twice on the way there, but once we located the place and used the dropped pin on Google maps, it was easy to find.

  • "Location: it is really very secluded and remote, lovely for those who like this!"

(we did :-)) Just a note to those who tend to rely on satnav: the postal code does not lead you to the cottage, you need to carry on a bit further down the road/track. Owners: we were made to feel very welcome by Paula. It is clear that they tend to keep to themselves, but we certainly don't have a problem with that. Facilities: very comfy beds! Sitting/dining room is on the small side but no problem for two occupants. Wifi was a bit on-and-off to start with, but then the owners installed a new connection/router and that was a lot better most of the time.

  • "Lovely cottage, great location if you are looking for something fairly remote in the countryside."

The cottage is compact and cozy with a well-equipped kitchen, a small wood burning stove in the living area for nights in, and comfy bedrooms. Lovely walled garden with a brook in front of the cottage which guests are welcome to use. It is also 30 min walk to the two nearest pubs along lovely country lanes. Lots of other places and walks to visit in the area. Highly recommend for a short stay.

  • "Part of the track leading to the cottage is very steep & narrow, with a rather severe speed bump, so we would not recommend the cottage to people of a nervous disposition or who have a low slung car!"

Otherwise it is a lovely cottage which we can fully recommend.
