  • "This is a lovely cottage if you want to be completely cut off."

My only big criticism is that we had no heating the whole time we were there and when we telephoned the number given it was the gardener who knew nothing about the house. Also no Wi-Fi whatsoever but that could have been result of floods and storm we experienced. Cleanliness and equipment were perfect. Would definitely book again if heating was guaranteed.

Kathy We had a great time, it was a lovely cottage. The best part was the peace and quiet and sitting in the conservatory watching the wildlife. I do think that the bath and shower appliances could have had a good clean to remove the chalk which covered them. I would certainly book again for a later date, we both loved it.

  • "A lovely, quirky cottage ideally suited three generations of our family."

the only thing that we missed was that there aren't any facilities for drying laundry except for the tumble dryer; it seemed a shame to use this on the hottest days of the year.

  • "A picturesque cottage set in a lovely large garden surrounded by farmland."

Great location for visiting all the lovely areas of Suffolk and Norfolk. The wildlife which visited the garden was wonderful. Hares, Roe deer and a muntjac deer! Overall the cottage was comfortable with a large well equipped kitchen. Suprisingly there are no wardrobes so take coathangers if you need to hang any clothes. Just a note to the owner, many of the spot lights in the kitchen were not working and the outside rear of the property could do with a bit of a clean, especially the conservatory which is looking quite tatty. We were lucky to be there when the weather was very warm, however we had to dig the parasol out from the side of the conservatory and cleaned it as best we could so we could have some shade.

In fact I've just re-booked for another week in September and there's no better commendation than that.

  • "The cottage was in a beautiful stretch of countryside full of wildlife."

Our two young children loved playing football in the huge garden and going for walks through the fields and forests in the local area. The cottage is a perfect size for a family of 4 and having two bathrooms is very handy.

  • "The conservatory was very relaxing, watching the wildlife."

A birdfeeder would certainly be very welcome!

  • "Cottage was well-equipped and cozy in a lovely location right out in the countryside."

Upstairs bedrooms are up a very steep and tricky staircase (though with rope hand rail) so best for kids and youngsters or at least those who don't need to go to the loo in the night (bathrooms are downstairs.) We loved our stay and the accommodation layout was great for our party. The garden is enormous and would be fantastic with school age kids or for those, like us, wanting peace and quiet and to enjoy the surrounding nature.

The cottage and the garden is out of this world!

  • "Delightful cottage in a very rural situation which we loved."

Wildlife in abundance, lovely to see. We were very comfortable and it's just so peaceful. Although it looks small there is lots of space in this cottage. Highly recommend.

  • "Might be worth mentioning that there's no toilet facilities upstairs."

Apart from that the cottage was great, very quirky. Sofa and seating could maybe do with an upgrade. Having said that, we really enjoyed our stay. The garden was great for wildlife and we spent a lot of time just sitting in the conservatory watching the hares, rabbits, even deer. The Cottage had everything we needed. We loved it.

  • "We enjoyed our holiday at the cottage."

The conservatory is fantastic and the seating is quite comfortable. However in the lounge whilst the furniture is quaint I didnt find it that comfortable. My husband went to sit in the settee, he is only 10st, and I saw the sagging underneath straight away and advised him not to sit in it. The Sofa, which is antique sagged badly and when I checked some of the Webbing underneath it was either broken or frayed badly. If a heavier person sits in it then they could find that the seat breaks. The kitchen is enormous and has a utility room has a little clothesline in it which is perfect for drying things overnight. The other downside is the lack of hanging space, if there are just two people the downstairs bedroom has a chest of draws and a hanging rack. whilst the upstairs bedroom didnt have anything but the hanging rack. The location is great and the grounds are quite large. The Wifi is practically non existent. I was notified by the owner just before going that it was always fading in and out. I only managed to upload one set of photos to my facebook page on the Saturday we arrived. The rest of the week I didnt manage to even get onto the internet despite trying different times of the day. I therefore feel thaat is miss leading to state that it has wifi.

Thank you so much for your feedback. We are happy to say that we now have a brand new sofa in the property. Property Owner

  • "The photo does not do the cottage justice!"

We were very impressed by the thoughtfulness and overall attractiveness of the house. There were flowers and milk waiting for us! The house had been renovated to a very high standard......... beautiful bed linen and furniture, a fully stocked kitchen, and lots of books, DVD's and family games to play. Although the bedrooms were small, and the layout a little quirky, there were several large family rooms on the ground floor full of light, and a large garden to the rear, and off road parking. The lane on which the house sits is beautiful and quiet........... lots of farmland and footpaths from the front door, and a dozen pubs and restaurants near by. A very enjoyable stay. Thank you so much.

The property

A characterful thatched cottage situated in a rural location on the edge of the historic village of Thornham Magna, and close to the charming market towns of Eye and Diss.

Perfect for couples, friends or travellers, this retreat is a breath of fresh air taking you away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Take a second to admire the peaceful views before stepping inside to the farmhouse kitchen/diner, stylishly designed with a country feel, and seating for six people.

A utility area and a charming shower room lie close by, well-appointed for your convenience.

When it comes to relaxing, choose the light and airy conservatory, perfect for an hour on the sofa enjoying the natural landscape, alternatively, a game of table football is sure to keep you occupied.

The lounge is a traditional haven for you and your loved ones, with an abundance of exposed beams which really set the scene for a snug night in.

This same sense of charm continues to the three bedrooms; an en-suite double lies on the ground floor, whilst an interconnecting double and twin are tucked away onto the first floor, layered with characterful beams.

Thornham Magna is a picturesque village, home for centuries to the Henniker family at Thornham Hall.

The estate provides over ten miles of public walks around beautiful parkland and ancient woods, directly accessible from the cottage.

The village has a pub (The Four Horse Shoes), a cafe and restaurant (The Forge, and The Thornham Coach House - check their websites for opening times).

It is also home to two historic churches, including the charming thatched saxon church at Thornham Parva, with its famous medieval retable.

Further afield, the cottage is an excellent base to explore the countryside, towns and coasts of East Anglia.

Examples of the many places to visit include Bury St Edmunds, Norwich, Thetford Forest, the Norfolk Broads, the wonderful Steam Museum and gardens at Bressingham, the zoo at Banham, castles at Framlingham and Orford, country houses at Helmingham and Ickworth and Snape Maltings, home of the Aldeburgh music festival.

A heart-warming getaway to begin your adventures.

The cottage is a historic building in a truly rural setting, which has been extended at various times.

In considering accessibility, please note that some of the rooms are on slightly different levels at the entry point, and the old part of the house has low ceilings (mind your head!) and the interconnected bedrooms under the thatch are accessed by a short but steep staircase, with a rope bannister.

Both bathrooms are on the ground floor.
