  • "A fantastic property in a stunning setting!"

We enjoyed feeding the fish from the balcony and spotting other wildlife. The property had everything we needed and is spacious. The views are truly amazing and we had a relaxing time there. We have booked again for April. Many thanks.

From beginning to the end of our stay at Miswells cottages-lake view we totally had a relaxing time. We didn't do too much as the weather was totally against us. So we spent most of the time feeding the fantastic fish and admiring the wonderful views. The place is so wonderful and spacious and there is so many pans and utensils in the kitchen, the bed was so comfy. One thing l would say is the televisions needs updating to a Smart TVs. All in all our stay was amazing. Also the owners Linda & Barry are really nice people......Thank you for our stay.....

Thank you so much for such a wonderful review. It was a pleasure to meet you and it would be lovely to see you again. I do take your point about the TV’s. There is a fire stick there but we will look at updating them next year. I know how important this is if the weather isn’t kind to you during your stay. Property Owner

Really relaxing holiday, and my wife got to play her Ukulele with the local East Grinstead ukulele group, who were a very welcoming group.

Regularly saw deer & squirrels from the balcony & feeding the carp below from the balcony was an amazing sight!!! No shortage of kitchen equipment & a supply of tea, coffee & milk was a nice touch. Personally I think a door to the en suite bathroom would have been preferable but apart from that I could not fault the property. It's ideally suited for lots of sight seeing. All in all we had a great holiday.

Beautiful place , for children it was also perfect because of the beautiful nature around it and ofcourse the lake in front of the home , with many fishes. We also saw a deer in the backyard! The home itself is very clean and there were many facilties. More than 1 toilet and shower. Thats with a family also a very big plus. The beds were very good and they had different pillows and blankets. In the kitchen you have everything what u need. The balcony was big and comfortable . The only thing we missed was a bbq. Like i sayed , the location was very very good. Nearby London and nearby the city's / villages in the south area of England. I would recommend this home to family and friends.

So pleased that you had a lovely stay at Lake View.I am so sorry we didn't get to meet you as we were away on holiday. Unfortunately we are unable to provide a BBQ as the balcony is wooden and it could potentially be a fire hazard. We look forward to seeing you or your friends again in the future Property Owner

!! We didn't feel too well when we went just getting over a cold but it didn't matter. I could have sat on huge balcony looking over a beautiful clear lake and fed the fish all day. There were even two geese with two babies that stood beneath the balcony and waited for breadcrumbs. Very quiet but with some lovely pub meals close by. Mr and Mrs Williams are very nice and like to hear if everything is ok which it was !!!

The matresses were extremely comfortable, the kitchen was very well appointed and allowed us plenty of room to work around each other. We noticed that on previous reviews, someone complained about hearing the garage door below us open and close - that was absolutely no problem at all as it only happened on the odd occasion. It was unusual to find a lack of doors between the bedrooms and the ensuite bathrooms in the property, personally i like open plan so it has to be an individual taste. The owners Linda and Barry were very helpful in all respects and i would highly recommend their property to other would be guests.

The surroundings were beautiful and they were pleased they could walk up into the village. The facilities were great especially the kitchen and lounge area and the decking was wonderful to enjoy. They stayed during an incredibly hot period in the year. The only downside is that the second triple bedroom has been built in the loft area making it extremely hot. We gave them additional fans but on of the guests ended up sleeping in the lounge because it was so hot. They couldn't open the windows. I suspect this is due to saftey issues. I do believe that the bedrooms especially the one upstairs needs to be fitted with an air conditioning unit.

  • "Miswells cottage is ideally situated in the South East of the country and for exploring the South Downs."

The cottage balcony enjoys a lake view which is stocked with Carp who like to be fed by hand. There is an oddity however in the open plan bathroom set up that some would not like as "no privacy" there. Unfortunately the owners were having major building work which meant quite a lot of noise for six days a week when we were sitting on the balcony enjoying the sunshine. I would have liked to have had advance notice of the work.

Sorry to hear you were disappointed with the open plan bathroom. It is clearly stated in the Sykes write up that each bedroom has open plan bathrooms. They are separate from the bedrooms through an arch and not a door. When in the bathroom you can’t be seen from the bedroom. The building work on our house ( not connected to Lake View ) is coming to an end. Unfortunately I didn’t get to see you when you arrived as I was away as I would have mentioned it on our welcome introduction. Previous guests had remarked it didn’t interfere with their holiday at all. Hope to see you again soon Linda Property Owner

The mini Holiday at Christmas was truly amazing and we cannot stop thinking about our gorgeous Holiday Home. It was so peaceful and serene (our choice). I almost don't want to share it in case I find it is booked when I want to go there, but I would love to return to this beautiful 'family' home again in the not too distant future. Linda and Barry were superb Hosts and we enjoyed getting to know them over a glass of fizz on Christmas Eve. They were so kind and completely selfless considering that it was Christmas. Each evening they even took the trouble to light up the beautiful lake for us to enjoy the view - it was truly magical. Linda and Barry also decorated the cottage for Christmas, it was so welcoming. I took way to many bits and pieces not knowing the quality that I was going too find. I cannot say enough about this wonderful place and these wonderful people who made our Christmas really special. [The journey home was not great but this is not something that anyone could have done anything about. We sadly had to cut our holiday short by one day to visit our Bristol family and endured the worst traffic in the history of transport on Friday 27 December 2019. We got caught in the Gatwick and Heathrow and Christmas travelling on the M23 and M24 and am unsure whether there may have been an easier route home]

Owner very friendly and helpful. We had a lovely stay, thank you. Just a couple of points to raise but didn’t affect our stay. Not too sure it is a particularly child friendly place to say, going up and down the stairs (no stair gate) in the night if the kids needed me (one needs a wee about 3am most nights!) was tough! Both rooms are open to their respective bathrooms so toiletries / chemicals would have to be kept on a high shelf elsewhere if your child was likely to get up and play in the night. (Also not great if you like privacy when on the loo, or if you’re staying with friends, rather than family). If it was warm outside you would not be able to have the patio doors open on to the terrace as the surround is easily climbed, and is over the lake. A few light bulbs were not working (vanity mirror and bed side light) but only a slight inconvenience really. Having stayed whilst it was wet outside, the car parking area was very muddy, meaning we’d have to go out in one pair of shoes (wellies) and change once out. Again, just an inconvenience. Thank you very much for a lovely stay, would highly recommend.

My husband really enjoyed sitting outside on the deck of a morning watching the Heron and the fish. It is well situated for visiting places of interest - there are many gardens and stately homes near by with Brighton a very short distance away. I would not recommend this cottage to anyone with problems with steep outside stairs, I've had 2 knee replacements and have arthritis - the rise of the steps is higher than usual. We had to go and ask someone how the towel rail switched on and twice we had no water in the morning - again my Husband had to go and talk to someone. We did not get a welcome pack as per advertised other than a packet of biscuits that ran out at the end of May! Also a pink of milk which went off after 2 days! The garage door makes more than a little noise - it is very noisy in the downstairs bedroom!

Thank you for your feedback and I am sorry you were not entirely happy with your stay. My cleaner is going to check with the local shop where she bought your milk and biscuits on Saturday as this has never happened before. We are sorry you thought that the welcome pack was not sufficient. The boiler issue was addressed as soon as we were made aware but the towel rail had been turned off after a very hot summer as guests requested this due to the bathroom being too warm. We were happy to help your husband turn this back on again. I have also added further notes about the external staircase and am sorry that you found this difficult after your knee replacements. No one has ever mentioned the incline of the stairs before so we had thought the notes to be sufficient. We are pleased you enjoyed your stay otherwise and thank you again for your comments. Most of the rooms being on one floor suited my mother. It was very comfortably furnished and I wouldn't hesistate to recommend it to anyone. The only thing I would mention is that the post code given did not guide me to the right road - there are many roads into Turners Hill which are called Turners Hill Road. Maybe it was my sat nav (Garmin) at fault, but we spent quarter of an hour or so going up and down some roads before getting it right. Go to the centre of the village and take the road downhill past the general stores, and then you come across the garage mentioned in the description. The road then curves round to the right, and the drive way into the property is on the left on that corner. It is rather hidden, so make sure that you aren't going too fast at that stage! But after that it was great - one of the pubs in the village doesn't do evening food, but the other one, on the crossroads, does, although it's probably worth taking the car rather than walking in from Lake View, the first bit of the journey doesn't have any footpaths - and the evenings were drawing in when we were there and we didn't fancy the walk back in the dark/twilight. But go for it - and there's plenty of places to visit in the area.

TURNERS HILL

Turners Hill is a quiet, peaceful village in rural Sussex, full of old world charm and character. Due to this the village centre has been designated as a conservation area and is picture perfect in every way with a central village green and with it's local shops and pubs forming the focal point. There are two excellent pubs one overlooking the village green,The Red Lion and The Crown, both serve local ales and delicious home cooked meals with produce sourced from farms nearby. If dining out is part of your holiday experience then you will certainly be spoilt for choice in this location! You can sample everything from a Sussex cream tea to dining at a grand Michelin Star, three rosettes restaurant and almost within walking distance! Many of the buildings surrounding the village date from the 17th and 18th centuries and a number are listed, so take time to explore the village before setting off to discover the Hundred Acre Wood that Winnie the Pooh, Tigger and all their friends trampled through created in the books by A.A.Milne and based in the Ashdown Forest only a few miles away. Ashdown Forest, originally a deer hunting forest in Norman times is really more heathland with several scattered villages dotted around. Full of exciting places to visit including National Trust Properties, Heritage Steam Railways, Art Galleries, Theatres and Museums. Here there is fun and activities for the whole family: cycling, canoeing, climbing, bush craft, survival skills, golf, walking and wine tasting, to name but a few. Ardingly is only a few miles from Turners Hill and is probably best known for hosting the annual South of England Show held in June and offers events and exhibitions over a three day period. Of course, it does lie dormant during the rest of the year, but puts on everything from Christmas and International antique and collectors fairs to dog shows, cycling events and even Moonlight Balls. So check out what is on while you are in the area.Turners Hill, a quiet piece of rural Sussex, but certainly never boring!!
