  • "Lovely property to stay, very clean, comfortable and very well equipped."

The friendly owners Julie and Martyn greeted us on arrival. Lovely quiet location and nice private outside space to sit. Local village of Findon has a few good pubs and restaurants and just within walking distance, about 1.5 miles (just over half hour's brisk walk) Lots of other walks in the area. Lovely views from the top of the Cissbury ring. Would recommend this property for a relaxing stay

  • "We had a lovely stay in the Dog & Trout."

The cottage was delightful and the daily visits from Clyde were something we looked forward to. Nice walks from the cottage and nearby on the South Downs. A very comfortable, peaceful and relaxing holiday.

  • "We have some minor quibles with the property."

They did not spoil the holiday, even a little bit, but if attended to would turn a first class cottage into an excellent one 1) With only 2 electrical sockets in the living room/kitchen (excluding those over the kitchen worktop) juggling cameras, phones, laptops and other things which need charging was not easy. 2) There is no-where to hang wet coats after a day out. 3) The couch is at right angles to the television, which means that it is almost impossible to snuggle back and watch TV in the evening. 4) Most Freeview channels could be obtained, but the signal was so poor that NONE were watch-able, Sky or similar is needed. I hope the above is of help - but I repeat that overall we were very satisfied with the cottage.

Thank you for your feedback and I'm glad you found the cottage to be first class. For the benefit of our future guests I thought I'd respond with some explanation. 1) There are 12 electrical sockets in total in the living room/kitchen area - a double socket behind the sofa, a double socket on the log burner wall and a double socket on the back wall (under the coat hooks); then two double sockets above the work tops in the kitchen area and a double socket in one of the cupboards. In case that isn't enough I have put an adapter in the kitchen cupboard. 2) There are 4 coat hooks by the back door (where we hang the keys) which can be used to hang coats 3) The couch is moveable to any position that suits you but is laid out as it is for maximum space. 4) The Free View TV picks up every station which is broadcast by the Findon transmitter and offers very good reception. Unfortunately it also tries to pick up duplicate channels from the Brighton (Whitehawk Hill) mast which, because it comes over the South Downs, can have poor reception. However you are not losing channels as a result. Property Owner

  • "Probably the best appointed holiday cottage we have stayed in."

Everything was very good quality from the duvets to the cutlery. A very comfortable week! A great location for some lovely walks with our dog and walking distance to a great restaurant in Findon (Sylvan Oak). The bottle of local wine and home made biscuits were much appreciated.

  • "The Dog and Trout is a beautiful property and we were made to feel extremely welcome when Julie and Martin came to say hello."

Such a lovely setting and walks a plenty from the property which our dog loved. Findon village just a stone throw away to enjoy a drink in one of the establishments, which is always welcome on a long walk. Would definitely recommend a stay here.

  • "The cottage was absolutely beautiful and spotlessly clean."

It had everything we could have asked for and more. The owners came across when we arrived and introduced themselves and i felt we could have contacted the, easily. The only thing that annoyed me and wasnt anything to do with the owners, was an email from Sykes asking me to strip the bedding and empty the rubbish before we left-seriously?? What hotel do you go to that you do the cleaners job before you leave as this is within the price. We left the cottage as tidy as possible but im not spending the end of my holiday stripping bedding! Disappointed with sykes cottages so would recommend the cottage but not sure about sykes as an agent.

  • "We really enjoyed our stay at the Dog and Trout, everything was spotless, bed was lovely and comfortable, kitchen well equipped."

I'd asked for a normal table, as I'm slightly disabled I can't do bar stools, and a table was waiting for me on arrival. (I suggested providing a drop leaf table for future guests). I've marked Comfort as a 4, not a 5 as the settee was very low. The location was incredibly quiet and peaceful. Only the owls in the trees now and then.

  • "The holiday cottage was great it included everything we needed - we would have liked a DVD player in the living room but that is personal choice."

The garden was a really good size and fully enclosed. Our dog loved his holiday as did we.

  • "A lovely cottage in set in a tranquil setting."

The cottage was comfortable and well equipped. The children loved visiting the horses in the nearby fields. The cottage’s enclose garden was fab for the dog. The location of the cottage is ideal for visiting the South Downs, Sussex coastal resorts and beyond. We’ll be back again!

  • "Great base for exploring the South Coast, all the facilities we needed for a week away."

Friendly but not imposing owners - Julie & Martyn have got just the right balance between making sure their guests are well catered for while also giving the space to enjoy themselves. Lovely walks from the accommodation to the South Downs. About a mile to the nearest pubs, which were all good.

  • "The cottage and furnishings were beautifully designed and implemented - the attention to detail was amazing!"

Theequipment was all that anyone might need. The owners were helpful and accommodating, and their two dogs visited us every day to check that all was well. I'm very much a "doggy person" but others may need to be aware that the dogs are extremely friendly and obedient, but quite boisterous! The garden (actually an orchard) was a delight in the warm weather, and the location of the cottage was perfect for us - good local walking and classical country views, but a 20 minute drive or less to Arundel, Shoreham or the beaches. We will definitely stay here again. On this occasion there were only two of us in this 2-bedroom cottage, but I wouldn't hesitate to go there with a couple of family members or friends.

  • "This accommodation proved to be very tastefully decorated and extremely comfortable."

A nice welcome pack on arrival for both the adults and the dog! A lovely quiet place, but close enough to Findon village to be able to walk to for a meal. Slight concern on the cooker hood as very sharp edges - got caught out a couple of times. Being self catering, would have been good to have some silver foil and cling film in the kitchen.

  • "We couldn't have wished for a warmer welcome."

What a fabulous cottage. So comfortable, so peaceful and so well equipped. It certainly had the 'wow' factor. It is so well positioned to explore West Sussex and the hosts have provided some great tips on walks from the cottage up to the South Downs Way and other local attractions. We would happily stay here again.

  • "This is a beautiful new holiday home tucked away in the Sussex countryside."

It is decorated to the highest standard and definitely is 5* Our two little dogs loved it and the welcome pack included a special jar of treats just for them, plus they loved the garden. The perfect location for a relaxing break away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. You are only a short drive or walk to the village shops, restaurants etc of Findon and Worthing is literally 10 mins away by car. It’s perfect for exploring West or East Sussex as the A24 also connects to a back road that goes via Steyning to Shoreham and the A27. This will be our new perfect place to stay whenever we visit Sussex.
