  • "This was a much-needed break after lockdown, and it was marvellous."

The lodge was spacious, light and comfortable, and quiet apart from the local peacocks! Great walking in the area, and of course the brilliant weather helped.

  • "Rock Lodge was a super cosy property."

It was just right for us. The bed was really comfortable . Everything you need for two on a short break.

  • "Lovely lodge, decor and furnishings."

The wood burner was great, just a shame the kitchen let it down could do with more equipment, a dish drainer for the washing up or dishwasher would help to make the holiday a little more relaxing. Great base for visiting the National Trust properties. It would have been nice to have met the owners.

  • "Lovely cottage in a quiet setting though lacking any views."

Great location for accessing tourist spots and lovely walks direct from the cottage. Owners nearby for advice and did say hello but did not intrude at all.

  • "Lovely lodge and beautifully furnished."

Sadly let down a little by the sparse cooking equipment resulting in us eating out more than we would have. Lovely clean white top bottom and top sheets but the absence of a duvet cover was unacceptable for us. Overall, we enjoyed our stay but with a few minor improvements we could rate this lodge as outstanding.

  • "We did not actually meet the Resident Owners but there was no need for us to contact them."

Welcome Pack was very much appreciated. Local leaflets were scant by comparison with the other self catering cottages we use. It was a good and comfortable base - appreciative comments left in the Guests' Book there.

  • "We were very pleased with our accommodation , nice and peaceful and if we needed to know anything about the Lodge or the area Jill at Rock House gave us all the information we needed ."

We found local pubs for very good meals and traveled to Eastbourne and Hastings which are not too far from the Lodge . We really had a lovely time

5 (difficult to sit with comfort on the high stools around the island in the kitchen area). Facilities - 4 Superb cottage in wonderful condition with a feeling of being brand new. A friendly welcome form the owners augmented the welcome pack of essential foods which was a nice touch and every small thing had been thought of even down to hand soap and towels. Outside space was great to sit in in the evening. Secure and safe in lovely surroundings with village and town life only a short drive away.

The cottage was immaculate. The owner Jill was very friendly, left a welcome pack of goodies but did not intrude. Would definitely recommend and revisit. A wonderful relaxing week.

About the location

NEWICK

Chailey 2.6 miles; Piltdown 2.3 miles; Haywards Heath 6.9 miles; Glyndebourne 9.4 miles. Brighton 16.8 miles; Battle 24.6 miles.

Newick is a medium-sized, pretty village situated in the heart of Sussex, on the A272 in the Low Weald area of East Sussex, almost mid-way between the busy towns of Haywards Heath and Uckfield. At the centre of the village is the village green, which is surrounded by local shops including a chemist, grocery store with post office and a baker’s serving freshly baked bread, delicious pies cakes and sandwiches. Newick has three pubs, all serving meals and real ales. The Crown can even boast a Certificate of Excellence, so is well worth a visit when dining out. Alternatively, why not try the Newick Tandoori, a family-run restaurant that serves Indian and Bangladeshi food? The restaurant is open seven days a week and offers a takeaway service, so whether you wish to dine in style or enjoy a delicious Indian takeaway meal whilst watching TV, the choice is yours. For a village, Newick has a bustling community with over 30 different societies and clubs, so little wonder that there’s an amateur theatre group who present regular plays at the village hall. But the real highlight of the calendar year is Newick Bonfire Night. Held at the end of October, the roads through the village are closed to traffic and starting with a children’s pageant, residents walk along the lanes dressed in costume and carrying torches towards the village green, where an enormous bonfire sits. Around the village green there are stalls serving hot food and drinks while music plays. This is one of the many bonfire events held all over Sussex between the months of September and November, with Newick holding one of the prime positions, and this is not a bonfire event just for the younger visitors, this is a festival for all ages and abilities and with so much happening, this is truly an evening to remember. Newick is a lovely Sussex village with a huge welcome.
