  • "A comfortable stay very peaceful lots of bird life around cottage & private woods."

Very friendly host great having a log fire & plenty of wood for it, parking near to cottage in the grounds of cottage. Certainty dog friendly plenty of area to run off lead & on lead in woods, just a shame the grass around cottage wasn't cut wasn't easy to clean up in longer grass,

Extremely helpful and friendly owner. A small hide away but with everything needed for an enjoyable stay - including a good supp.ly of logs to feed the wood burner to help stay nice and warm. I'd like to go back if we get the chance.

  • "The owners of this little property are quite lovely and greet you with a warm welcome before helping you with your luggage to the cottage."

It should be noted there is a walk to the cottage from your car along a long garden path, so consider if you have mobility issues. The cottage is very well equipped there is nothing you could need that isnt provided for a short stay, with a small well proportioned kitchen, cosy lounge, a fair sized double bedroom and a spacious bathroom. The cottage was very clean and the owners had taken the trouble to light the wood burner in advance of my arrival so it was nice and warm and there are plenty of logs provided, so you will never be short. Its very peaceful and almost total silence in the evenings. The downsides to this little hideaway is that unless you keep the heat constantly on it gets very cold. The other issue is the hot water. It dribbles out the taps and the shower is so slow that the water is cold before it hits your feet. It really needs an electric boiler and radiators fitting which would heat the water as well as the cold water pressure is good. The chairs in the lounge have seen better days and really need replacing with something more comfortable as they are hard and despite reclining are really past their best for comfort. Outside it really needs some PIR lights fitting as its pitch black at night so finding your way back to the car is an issue, and it was so dark I couldnt even see my dog in the garden. Its a bit tired and needs a bit of money spending on it now, but it is a little gem for a few days.

  • "This was our 2nd visit."

It's like being at home in a fairytale. A log burner for colder nights or winter months provides ample heating. Warm shower, washing machine and all amenities you would require. A private garden for the dog or sunbathing with more private patio too for dinner. A walk through the private woods and Rye and Hastings nearby. A pub a couple of minutes walk up the lane serving food (lots) and drinks and very dog friendly. The most perfect hosts make this a beautiful place to visit.

Cottage is in a very picturesque place, with a lovely wood to take your four legged companion for a walk. So many place within easy reach to visit plus we recommend a trip to Eggs to Apples for a lovely farm shop and refreshments. This is the first cottage we have visited that has included logs for log burner, all the others it is an extra charge.

Set in the East Sussex countryside in a small village called Three Oaks, Sunrise is a single-storey detached cottage offering a couple a rural escape.

Being just over five miles from the historic coastal town of Hastings, Sunrise is a great spot for discovering the delights of Sussex, and is perfect for nature lovers being surrounded by private woodlands that guests have access to.

Step into the handy boot room first and take off your walking gear before heading into the open-plan living space to settle in.

A woodburning stove can keep you warm on a cool night as you recline in one of the two reclining armchairs and watch the TV.

A compact yet well-equipped kitchen area offers a gas oven and hob, along with a fridge/freezer and a washing machine, while a breakfast bar provides the perfect spot to enjoy a home-cooked meal.

Make use of the large garden space, all fully enclosed so you can let your canine companion run around on the lawn, with a table and chairs out here too for some alfresco dining in summer and a south-facing patio.

The all-ground-floor layout is ideal for those with more limited mobility, with the open-plan living space leading to the attractive double bedroom with lovely furnishings and a dressing table, served by the en-suite shower room.

Enjoy exploring the beautiful private woodland surrounding the property which lies near to the owner's home, or find the wonderful 1066 Country Walk not far from Sunrise, which follows the 30-mile route of William Duke of Normandy and his army as they landed in Pevensey and travelled on foot to Battle to defeat King Harold, you can take in a host of historical sites along the way, through ancient towns and villages and picturesque countryside.

Visit the town of Hastings itself, home to the largest beach-launched fishing fleet in Europe; it is host to many restaurants and eateries serving fresh seafood along with the Hastings Seafood and Wine Festival in autumn, with many local businesses getting involved with special menus and entertainment too.

Wander around the famous 11th century ruins of Hastings Castle and take a tour of the fascinating underground tunnels at Smugglers Adventure, used by smugglers to import and export illegal items, or head up the fantastic West Hill Lift Funicular Railway, with original wooden Victorian coaches, and take in the stunning views of the town and the coast from West Hill itself, with a café up there too open in summer.

Stroll along Hastings Pier, enjoy a day on the rocky beaches, visit The True CRIME Museum and Hastings Museum & Art Gallery, and discover many more attractions all along the Sussex coast.

Escape to the peace and tranquillity of Sunrise in East Sussex for memorable holiday for two.

About the location

WESTFIELD

Battle 5 miles; Hastings 6 miles; Rye 9 miles.

Westfield is a thriving village situated only six miles inland of Hastings. With excellent access to other parts of Sussex and Kent, it’s a perfect choice for a base whilst exploring this part of the South Coast. Maplehurst Wood, on the outskirts of the village, offers approximately 78 acres of ancient woodland, and a Site of Special Scientific Interest, it's home to many different species of breeding birds, including kestrel, tawny owl, woodpecker and nuthatch. For those wishing for long country walks, relaxed days spent fishing, or golf, Westfield is a wonderful option. Dating back to Doomsday times, Westfield, then known as Westewelle, is still one of the largest villages in the area, and even has its own winery - Carr Taylor Vineyards, a popular tourist attraction with vineyard walks, tours and wine tasting. There’s also a village shop, newsagents, butcher, delicatessen, hairdressers and a pub called The New Inn, serving excellent food. For fine dining, The Wild Mushroom Restaurant is a good choice. With Hastings just six miles away, you can enjoy a swim in the sea, beachcombing along the shore or clambering over castle ruins. For those wishing to wander around battlements or sample a Sussex cream tea, then make your way to Battle, a short drive to the west. With the social history museum of Yesterday's World allowing a walk through time, passing quaint shops with cobbled streets, Battle is appealing at any time of year, whilst Westfield provides a wonderful base.
