  • "We have had a very good stay in Mill Cottage!"

Nice house, very clean, very well equipped, beautiful garden. Quiet village, but enough things to do and places to visit in the surroundings of Piddinghoe. We definitely recommend this cottage!

Thanks very much for your kind words! Glad you had a lovely time. Penny &Neil. Property Owner

  • "The cottage was in a lovely quiet location, friendly neighbours and some lovely walks around the village and river."

The cottage has everything we needed and was comfortable and warm. It had a lovely garden with lots of bluebells in bloom during our stay. There was lots of birds visiting the garden too. Easy to get out to various locations with lots of great scenery and NT and other attractions not too far away. The only thing that spoiled our holiday was the weather but we did get out and about but for May we did have to wrap up warm. May well return there in the future.

  • "The rooms were a good size for a bungalow including the bedrooms."

The massive bed in the upstairs bedroom was very firm, too firm for comfort as some others had noted in the visitors book. As someone who has built two bath/shower rooms at home, there was no extractor fan in the upstairs shower and the hand basin was too small to wash in if you weren't showering. With two hands and a flannel in it the water overflowed onto the floor, not good for a laminate floor! These things are just niggles compared to the whole experience of the bungalow. The property was very well equipped, even if every bedroom was being used, but there were only three of us this time. The SatNav got completely confused going round Brighton on the way home, we did several tours of its streets before we got out. But the week was dry and blustery for the most part. Nice bracing walks around Beachy Head.

  • "We were very happy with the property, location and the owner (Neil) who we met briefly on our last day."

We would happily rent this property again. However we did experience some problems, the biggest being how dirty the property was when we arrived! It had not been cleaned very well at all, for example there were crumbs on the dinning table, inside the microwave and on the worktops in the kitchen. There was an awful smell upon arrival, which we assumed was a strong cleaning product used, however this was actually oil leaking from the boiler. We have no issues with this as we understand these things happen and it was dealt with and we never experienced any problems with having hot water etc. However the smell would have been there when the cleaners ‘cleaned’ and they did not report this nor do their job very well. This was the ONLY negative we have about our stay. Otherwise we HIGHLY recommend and would happily stay again.

  • "Mill Cottage is in a quiet location which suited us during our holiday at this time."

There are some nice walks with views of the lake and estuary. It was a short drive to Seaford which was nice and beach wasn't crowded at all.

  • "Accommodation in very good order, no problems found at all."

However not much to do in Newhaven, had to use cars most days, as all of holiday persons are in 80"s this was a small problem.

About the location

Lewes 8 miles; Glyndebourne 8 miles; Brighton 10 miles; Eastbourne 13 miles.

Newhaven is home to a thriving marina and busy seaport, along with all that a seaside town has to offer. If seafood and fish is your desire then look no further, the many restaurants and harbour bistros offer daily catches with mouth-watering menus that everyone will wish to try. Dine alfresco at almost anytime of year, due to the southern climate in this part of Sussex. But if something a little more adventurous may take your fancy, then why not take to the skies by paragliding over the Sussex Downs at Firle only a few miles away? Ferry crossings are twice a day from Newhaven Seaport if you wish to stock up on Continental wine and spirits, or just to sample the soft French cheeses in the Dieppe market held every Saturday. For culture fiends, Glyndebourne holds open air concerts throughout the year, where picnic baskets are welcome, and the audience can enjoy music, entertainment and food to their fill. A day in Brighton and "The Lanes" offers the chance to enjoy everything from high street to boutique shopping within walking distance, with dining and entertainment in addition. With trains to London leaving regularly why not enjoy a day exploring the capital before returning to the relaxation of the sounds of the sea before planning the day ahead.
