  • "Absolutely first class!"

    - Despite the weather. Beautiful walks in the beaches, museum visits, lovely local seafood experiences. The storm/high winds prevented us from enjoying the whole week as we had to “flee homewards” to avoid being stuck on the Island. Hope to return in the Spring to see the Machar flowers.

  • "This is probably one of the best holiday houses we have ever stayed in."

    It was simply a beautiful house, with lots of very nice furnishing, equipment, and finishes. It is obvious that the home was created with love and such thought. All the furnishings and even paint colors match the colors of the environment the house sits in. It is in such a nice setting, we could sit all day looking out of the huge windows out to the sea(a stone’s throw away) . The light was always changing. I have never seen so many rainbows in one day. The owners, Margaret and Michael, could not have been nicer to us. So warm and welcoming…thank you! Even though the house sits close to the main road (one lane) there is nothing obstructing the beautiful views of the sea. While inside the house it seems to be in a very private setting (it is set well above the road). There are a few nice restaurants and places to shop for food near by. We would come back.

  • "Driftwood is a really generous house in so many ways."

    The level of cleanliness and comfort is a delight. Every little detail has been considered and the design was exemplary. We loved it. The level of light, the views all around including the curve of the earth - this house was made to restore the soul and that's what it did for us.

  • "We have stayed in many cottages in Scotland but hands down, Driftwood is the best one."

    It has everything - the interior is beautiful. It is pristine, stylish, comfortable and well appointed. A genuine home from home. The view from downstairs and up is breathtaking, the beach across the road, Eriskay and Barra. It is handy for beautiful beaches, a tasty meal in The Politician, many walks and the Uist Museum. Michael and Margaret Ann are great hosts, friendly, responsive and helpful. We were very sad to leave, it's a perfect place!

  • "Excellent cottage."

    Michael was very helpful and communication was great. The cottage was beautifully laid out with everything you could need, clean, spacious and relaxing. Beautiful views out the front with the sea, and out the back the mountains, we saw plenty of eagles, owls and more out the back towards the mountain! Would highly recommend staying here.   • "Michael and Margaret have done a superb job with planning, building and maintaining this property."

    It was immaculate on arrival, and they'd left a great mix of local produce. During our stay, there were problems with the ferry. Michael came round to discuss options with us, and to offer support. On returning home, we got a text from Michael telling us that he thought we'd left one of my son's toys behind. When we confirmed that it was ours, he immediately offered to post it over to us. The toy arrived soon after. We could not have asked for more from our hosts. They went 'above and beyond', to make sure our holiday was perfect.

Upon entering 8 East Kilbride, you will be welcomed by the inviting open-plan living space, filled with the warmth and character, perfect for entertaining, with a kitchen to satisfy the culinary needs of your group, a dining area for enjoying delicious meals and a sitting area for relaxing and admiring the far-reaching views.

The first-floor mezzanine-style snug is perfect for escaping with a good book or for the kids to play and an enclosed rear patio with furniture and barbecue provides the perfect spot for alfresco dining, while the sunroom allows you to take in the stunning views of Eriskay.

When the evening draws to a close, discover two beautiful bedrooms, a twin (zip/link) residing on the ground floor, and a super-king-size with en-suite shower room on the first floor.

There is also a ground-floor bathroom with a luxurious Jacuzzi bath, for unwinding after a day of exploring.

Spend a day getting to know the culture of the locals, and take a short drive to the various local attractions, such as the Barpa Langass Neolithic Chambered Cairn, the Uist Outdoor Centre, or explore further afield.

Isle of Benbecula, Grimsay, North Uist and Berneray all linked by causeway.

Why not take a day trip to the Isle of Harris and Lewis and take a tour of the famous Harris Tweed mills.

ERISKAY, SOUTH UIST

Lochboisdale 12 miles

The village of Eriskay is found in the centre of the island of Eriskay which is located between South Uist and Barra. It is connected to South Uist by a causeway and is a delightful place to visit. It is known for being the site of ‘Whisky Galore!’ when in 1941 the SS Politician ran aground here carrying 28,000 cases of malt whisky. The wreck was looted by islanders who allegedly hid the whisky all over Eriskay and South Uist. With a population of around 200, it is a picturesque, hilly island. Prince’s Beach is well worth a visit while on Eriskay and is located on the west side of the island. It is thought to be where Bonnie Prince Charlie first set foot on Scottish soil and the Bonnie Prince Charlie trail is popular with visitors to the island. While you are in Eriskay you can stock up at the community shop and there is even a restaurant called Am Politican here where you can stop off and enjoy a delicious bite to eat.
