  • "Our biggest issue was with the staircase - beautifully made, but oh so steep with a decent angle that required a 'duck' on the way down to prevent hitting your head - rather like descending into a small motor launch."

Not at all suitable for elderly people, I am surprised this staircase passed building regs frankly. Otherwise, a pleasant enough place and a lovely area. We had to leave early to attend to some personal business, but value for money, just 'iffy' for us OAPs. I don't require you to publish the feedback, if you wish, its up to you, but a word in the ear of the owners might be better. Best regards, James

  • "What a beautiful gem this place is."

If you want tranquillity in a pretty little village then this is your place. The property’s is beautiful and I loved the little post box on the wall next to the front door. The property was very clean and had everything we needed. I would definitely book again

Thank you for your kind remarks. We’re delighted that you enjoyed your stay, and that everything was as expected. We look forward to welcoming you back. Property Owner

  • "Very disappointing……."

. On arrival to this property it did not feel welcoming, there was no welcome pack ,nothing to say where things were or what was near by such as nearest shop and places to eat. This would of been helpful being as though there was nothing to start a fire like what was stated in the advertisement and not even a roll of toilet roll. The property was lacking cleanliness carpet covered in bits obviously not hoovered prior to us going in. The fireplace very untidy dust and bits of wood all over, the log basket was empty and the basket at the side of the fireplace had old tissues in there and a pair of gloves covered in cobwebs. The cottage could be lovely with a bit a TLC deep clean and maintenance work. Small things like a jar of disused batteries on the fireplace and empty tea lights all over the property let this down and the lack of cleanliness. Cobwebs everywhere and the kitchen is in need of a deep clean old dried cheese still in the grill pan. Our main concern though was the small bedroom which is not suitable for young children as the top of the stairs are very narrow and with a piece cut out far too dangerous for a young child and no heating in the room either. This should be highlighted to customers as we felt it too dangerous to let our 6 year old sleep in the bedroom and would not of booked the property having known it was like that . We bought these issues up to the owners but they didn’t want to know which is unfortunate as this could be a nice place and get better reviews if they listened and took on board the feedback. For this reason we would definitely not return or recommend to friends and family.

The issues raised, in the main, are housekeeping issues. I raised concern with the cleaning company. However, their response was unsatisfactory, for which, I can only apologise. The information pack is clearly visible within the property. Candles are prohibited. Batteries and lightbulbs are left as spares. Property Owner

  • "We were very warm and cosy in the cottage."

The bed was very comfortable and the shower excellent. The location of the cottage is perfect. We could walk from the door along the river and up to the moors and it is a lovely, quiet village in a beautiful area. The kitchen, we felt, was in need of a thorough cleaning and the saucepans were a strange and very limited selection, although, had we wanted to bake cakes, there seemed to be plenty of tins etc. No issues with the availability of hot water in the kitchen. We would have welcomed information about how to operate the under-floor heating, what items could be put in the recycling boxes, and information about walking routes from the cottage. The yellow plastic wallet seemed to contain random information about equipment that wasn't in the cottage, for example, a dishwasher, a freezer. We had a lovely stay and hope to return.

Thank you for your review. We always welcome constructive criticism. We will ensure that the recycling bins are labelled, and that extra saucepans are made available. We’re pleased that you enjoyed your stay, and look forward to welcoming you back in the near future. Property Owner

  • "The property was absolutely perfect for holiday away from it all."

Beautiful scenery/walks right from the front door and wonderfully quiet. Could do with a few more cooking utensils perhaps. One more saucepan would be good.

  • "With a few improvements this would be a great holiday cottage."

The hot water is inadequate - we had to boil the kettle to have enough hot water to wash up after dinner. The hand basin in the bathroom is too small with no hot water, although there isn’t a lot of space for anything much bigger. The lack of a freezer or ice making compartment in fridge was a real blow, no ice and we had throw peas etc away. The bedroom is a lovely room but it would benefit from having a bedside table and light on both sides. The wardrobe was rather cluttered with a stained duvet at the bottom which made closing the doors difficult. On arrival the toilet seat was broken and spot lights missing or flickering. We received an email before arrival from the owner apologising and these items were fixed on the Monday after our Friday arrival.

  • "Cottage was nice but there were a few things that could've made it lovely."

Broken toilet seat still not fixed, couple of lightbulbs out in lounge, lack of saucepans etc (but loads of baking stuff, which was a bit random). A freezer would also be handy, as well as more storage for own food. No welcome pack on arrival - other owners have provided a pint of milk or a bottle of wine at least. Also no info pack or visitors' book, so no idea of local amenities or recommendations from other guests. Neighbours blocked my car in on first day so had to make sure I parked slightly differently to avoid that happening again. All in all, a good base for exploring the Dales but some small tweaks would make a big difference.

Thank you for taking the time to submit feedback. There is a large information pack and a basket of visitor attraction leaflets. Welcome packs are provided and I’ve addressed this with the cleaning company. Property Owner

  • "A comfortable cottage in a lovely Dales location."

There were however disappointing aspects. Dirty utensils, filthy oven trays, broken toilet seat, towel rail not working and temperamental lights in dining area. The photo of patio area is misleading as the actual patio is roped off as shared with neighbour. This meant we couldn’t leave open kitchen door as dog would just wander out under rope and down steps. The bedrooms were very nice, comfortable beds and great shower in bathroom. Could be a fantastic cottage but kitchen needs deep clean and not trust previous customers to wash up properly. Maybe put gate on patio.

  • "In a previous email you informed us there was no TV in the bedroom."

Unfortunately that very small TV was placed in the living room and the larger one, as shown in pictures on line, had been removed. This bedroom TV was far too small. The hot water system was diabolical. There were no leaflets left at the property indicating how we could obtain hot water. Eventually we discovered a very small water heater under each sink. There was never enough hot water to wash dishes as the system was inadequate for the size of sink. The bathroom water heater was a joke. The water came out as a trickle. It was impossible to fill the sink and have a wash. There were no leaflets informing us regarding the under floor heating. Three light bulbs in the living room did not work, neither did the reading lamp. The kitchen needed additional pans and serving bowls for vegetables etc. Trying to make and serve a substantial meal for 3 was extremely difficult. The toilet seat was broken. There was no toilet brush and no shelf/cupboard for toiletries. There was no shaving point. We had to bring up a small table from the lounge to use as a bedside lamp on, as there was only one bedside table.

Thank you for taking the time to submit feedback. We will address the areas which we feel necessary to improve and ensure the comfort of all our guests. Property Owner

  • "Beautiful cottage (as described) ."

Any issues we had within the cottage were addressed and good communication with the owner. Would suggest the description states up to 4 people not 3 , with the use of a sofa bed as the addition. This opening up for those having 4 in the party to be able to consider this cottage as an option.

Thank you for taking the time to submit such lovely feedback. We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay and we look forward to welcoming you back in the near future. Property Owner

An Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with lovely rolling hills and spectacular views, Reeth boasts a colourful history as it was originally a Saxon settlement, and has also been known as a lead mining town and a centre for hand knitting throughout its time. Both trades are proudly featured in the Swaledale Museum, located alongside a good range of shops, tea rooms and restaurants. For a quaint little community, Reeth is well-served by traditional inns, with three to choose from, including the lovely Buck Hotel, whitewashed like so many of the 18th century cottages huddled around the triangular village green. The historic market towns of Richmond and Leyburn are also within easy reach, offering a further selection of amenities. Askrigg is just a short drive away, as well as Aysgarth Falls, Semerwater and Hardraw Force (England's highest single drop waterfall at 99ft).
