  • "The property was presented beautifully with everything you might need for a stay away ."

The bathrobes are a nice touch . Things that need attention . The outside stairs could do with a little fence at the top as its a low wall and quite a long drop on an evening the lighting is poor . The heating does not work in the double bedroom at the back the radiator in the bedroom never got warm. This does not reflect on the castle itself . We enjoyed our stay and the surrounding area is lovely . Just be aware of the cleaning bond you have to pay before arrival you do not get back on the day of departure it gets paid back once the cleaners have been in but you get no indication when this might be ?

Loved using the hot tub and sauna (with towels and dressing gowns supplied). Apartment very handy for local shops, pubs, cafes and craft centre. Lovely local walks and scenery. Would be nice addition to have garden furniture for the grassed area by the hot tub and a cover for the hot tub that's easier to pull on /off. Looking forward to going back again sometime soon.

  • "We had a lovely stay at Castle Keep."

Nicely furnished, spacious, with well equipped kitchen and good Wi-Fi (didn’t reach some bedrooms, probably due to the thick stone walls!). The sauna and hot tub added something special too. We had a minor issue with the heating, but this was resolved quickly with no fuss. If the weather had been better we probably would have taken advantage of the location for more walks, but the apartment proved a lovely place to just ‘hang out’ and spend time together as a family.

  • "Sauna does not work and radiators also did not work in en-suite bedroom."

Would recommend some security lighting in courtyard and steps as very difficult to see at night.

Dear Richard. Thank you for your comments. May I firstly point out that the courtyard to Stanhope castle is a residential area and not part of this holiday cottage. Being a grade two star listed building we simply cannot just install flood lights.Cosy cave and castle keep have 9 external up and down lighters along with ground lights. The sauna was inspected upon your departure and was found to be in working order. Should you be unsure on how to operate the sauna there are contact details in the property, a member of staff is available to talk you through how to operate the sauna. The radiator in the bedroom with the en-suite has since had a faulty thermostatic valve replaced. Your comments left in our visitors book contract those left online. We wish you all the best. • "The facilities of the stay were great."

The house was very clean too. However, on the day we arrived, there was barely no heating at all. Very concerned, we contacted who was looking after the property, and the reply that came back was to ask us to intrude on a honeymoon couple staying in the apartment below us and get them to sort the situation. We were not comfortable with this at all. The heating only really came back after about 5 hours. Furthermore, we left on a Sunday, and we were expecting the house to be checked on the same day or the day after at the most, so we could get our bond money. Only after we left were we informed the house would not be cleaned / checked until almost a week later (Friday). We didn’t think it was acceptable to keep a £150 bond for almost a week after our stay. Even though the property itself was more than up to standards, we won’t be staying again due to the customer service we received.

Unfortunately castle keep and cosy cave are one property split into two. There is one boiler on the ground floor serving both properties. We generally leave the room thermostat upstairs in castle keep as this is the biggest property. However on this occasion we had a week booking downstairs and a two night booking upstairs on castle keep. Therefor we thought it was most appropriate to leave the guests downstairs with the boiler remote control on this occasion. Regarding the house keeping deposit. We use the same house keepers on each property.this way they can assess accidental damage better. Due to sickness. Our house keeper wasn’t available until the following Friday. The property would of usually been stripped and made up on the Monday morning providing the house keeper wasn’t absent from work. We can only apologise that the return of your deposit took longer than usual. As a business we are looking at alternative methods of taking and returning house keeping bonds. If you recall we chased you for bank details and you had given us the wrong ones. This also slowed things down. Property Owner

Although we didn't use the sauna, we made use of the hot tub most evenings. The friendly owners are only a phone call away should you need them & only too willing to help. The castle is situated in the great location of Stanhope & has all the amenities you could wish for, 2x pubs, Freddies fish & chip shop (highly recommended), butchers, bakers, Co-op, bank etc. just to name a few. There is even a pizza van that parks in the main square on a Thursday evening between 6 & 9 & cooks a pizza of your choice whilst you wait. Although the swimming pool & Weardale Railway is closed at the moment due to Covid restrictions. We would definitely stop there again when visiting the area.

Scott was very helpful. Anything we needed was done right away nothing was too much trouble. It was very clean and the whole property was a very high standard. There was also a 4K TV which was a bonus. The only thing I could suggest would be TV’s in the bedrooms as there wasn’t any in any of the bedrooms however this did not affect our stay. There is a lovely walk called high force waterfalls about 30 mins drive. Not many restaurants around but there is a lovely Italian not to far called Boun Appetit about 10 mins drive. Che was also lovely but that is a takeaway only. There is also a lovely park for kids and river about 5-10 mins walk from the castle. Would highly recommend staying here and we will return in the future.

The decor and presentation of the whole apartment is stunning. The fully equipped kitchen and the quality of the furnishings sets this apart from most properties. whilst we didn't use the sauna it was tucked away so that it wasn't in the way if not used. The hot tub takes a bit of time to warm up but well worth it great addition to the building. Everything that you needed was provided the landlord was on hand and If you had a questions responded really quickly and was very helpful. The pictures don’t really do it justice - you need to see it to appreciate the size of the rooms and the quality of the furnishings and fittings. I would love a kitchen at home with as much storage as Castle Keep and the walk-in pantry is so useful. Owner was helpful and unobtrusive, just checking if everything was ok and explaining that the hot tub was a recent addition since we booked, so would be available if required, at an additional cost. The sauna is a bonus facility especially after a day enjoying a fabulous walk in the amazing local countryside. We had our supplies delivered by Asda for shortly after our arrival - much better than having to bring everything with us or having to visit the supermarket on the first day of out holiday.
