  • "Property needs a thorough, deep clean."

It is not luxury and should not be advertised as so. Basic towels, basic kitchenware, to not even leave a dishwasher tablet, tea towel etc I don't feel is suitable. For a weeks stay. No welcome basket. It was nice but the cleanliness spoilt it for us, having to get it cleaned again and vacate the property on your holiday is not acceptable. A hoover, mop should be available which other people have commented also.

Thank you for your feedback. We would just like to take this opportunity to reflect our views on this matter… You contacted us on the day of your arrival to inform us that the apartment was “lovely, but not very clean”. We amiably responded the same day to try to resolve your complaint as soon as possible. We were shocked by your claim so requested that you send over the photos, as you had offered, and even addressed it with our cleaners whom provided us with their own photos of the clean apartment after they had finished it prior to your arrival. We were astonished to see that the photos you sent showed close ups of a small amount of dust/crumbs in a few nooks and crannies within the apartment as well as a few bits of fluff on the stair carpet. We had asked you for more photos as the images you sent us did not justify the request for another full deep clean (the following day after you had already stayed for 1 night) to which we feel you went out of your way trying to look for more minor problems (e.g climbing on top of the beds to take photos of the headboards which are higher than standing height and an estranged cobweb on one of the ceiling corners). You implied that the kitchen was dirty and that you had cleaned it up yourself but failed to provided any supporting photos of this. You also mentioned that the dining chairs were covered in ”fluff” to which we explained that it was the filling/stuffing (not dirt) and even pulled it out and provided evidence of this following our visit. Nevertheless, as we value all of guests we did, as promised, head along to the apartment and do a thorough hoover and dust throughout (including mess created by your 1 night stay). We do, however, stand by our decision not to do another full deep clean as we found that the apartment had already been soiled. We would also just like to mention that we used to provide a hoover within each apartment but swapped this over for a large sweeping brush and handheld brush due to the hoovers repeatedly being broken by guests. Our cleaners do an amazing job (as so evidently seen by many of the glowing reviews we have received). We are not denying the fact there may have been a few odd crumbs left behind by human error, but as means to rectify this we personally came to do a full hoover during hours convenient to you that you specified you would already be out. With regards to providing ‘no welcome basket’, it is not currently feasible for us to provide this based on our properties’ affordable prices and taking into account fees, utilities, cleaning costs and expenses. Really comfortable bedrooms and the cinema room- stunning!!!! Showers powerful and the bath is huge!!!! Loved the upstairs bar area with hidden Marshall speaker fridge and neon sign. Sofas were really comfortable too! Only and very minor gripes/ observations - upstairs shower is very slow to drain so be cautious, towels- on the small side lol it’s a luxury property- surely bath sheets rather than bath napkins as we called them? Kitchen - oddly the only place we have stayed where there are no ‘bits and bobs’ from other guests like foil, salt and pepper, clingfilm and no dishwasher tablets provided and only 1 tea towel. Microwave very loud and not sure if that’s a potential future fault? Lastly the place is opulent and the dining table matches that but is far too big for the space. We had to plan the order of who was sitting where so the last person didn’t have to try to pass anyone else already seated. Again none of those big issues but observations on things that could maybe be considered. Would we stay again- yes without a doubt!

  • "First impressions = WOW!"

We stayed here for a family holiday base for 5 adults, 1 child and 1 infant. We initially had a few issues - i.e - upstairs shower room door seal broken and immediately created a pool of water if ran water, no hoover present in apartment (although hard floors, there is carpets in bedrooms etc so a hoover is definately essential), water in both showers where a VERY slow drain. One message later - the owner of the property swiftly dealt with all the issues within 24hr (even after being out the day herself)... also adding to this 'she was so lovely and down to earth to talk to also' :) New seal on bath was fitted next day....and a hoover was kindly lent so we could keep ontop of our own accumulated dirt (i can see why there wasnt a hoover wasnt present on arrival if people break ones that are put in there originally (which maybe a henry hoover may be the answer (the nokia of hoovers - think youd need a bomb to break these things) lol. Also drains free flowing after visit. Anywho.... the week stay was just WOW. The apartment - although being on the top floor - was WELL WORTH THE CLIMB. the decor... beds...showers.... everything about this place, including the views where lovely. :) Thankyou to sykes and the owners for this previous week. We all loved it :)

It was very modern, with a luxury element. We especially enjoyed the cinema room upstairs, it was perfect to relax in after our days exploring. The local train ride was a hit with our boys and also the stepping stones and park just down the road which was only a short walk. They also loved visiting the beaches, which are beautiful! If there was one thing that would have made the stay even better it would be if all the windows locked properly and the front door maybe had an extra bolt to lock it. As we stayed with children it was just something that we had to really watch, that being said we all had a fab time and would definitely stay again.

Some maintenance and cleaning issues during our stay which were all reported to the owner. Freezer is a fridge with ice box rather than full freezer - important for big families to know!

Hi Clare, thank you for your honest feedback. We are always grateful to receive constructive comments, and following on from this we have addressed the maintenance and cleaning issues reported to us. We have also replaced the fridge-freezer appliance in Queen Elizabeth Suite with a brand new full under-counter freezer in hope that this will be more suitable for our guests. We hope to see you again in future! Warm regards, Rachael & Ashleigh Property Owner

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our week's stay at Queen Elizabeth Suite."

We have stayed in one below before and both are spectacular. Spacious, comfortable and spotless. The bedrooms are comfortable and spacious and have lovely furnishings and decor. The cinema room was fab. Really comfortable sofa with plenty of room for 6 people. And great for movie nights. Great sized dining table and good sized kitchen. It would be good to have some larger pans as not big enough to cook for 6, but that is the only thing and we mainly ate out at the lovely pubs and takeaways around the area. Lovely mini balcony to sit out and take in the amazing views. The only other thing that would benefit is having a hoover and mop so that people staying can hoover any bits upon leaving, and any crumbs in the kitchen. In a perfect location for exploring stanhope. Highly recommend, and will definitely return again.

We could have used more hanging space- there is no dryer and also we had rain everyday. Apart from that, the flat was more than we could have expected- lovely. We were worried about the on-street parking only, but there was plenty of space. We especially enjoyed the (mostly) independent shops being close, cafes, bakers, butchers etc. as well as a Co-op for all the rest. At the same time, a 10 minute walk took us right out into beautiful countryside.

The owners were lovely and very willing to go the extra mile to help and to sort out any difficulties or questions. With 4 children I was worried that it was going to be difficult to keep them occupied but far from it. The location was great! Loads to do whatever the weather - from the Roman fort and Bowes museum, Durham cathedral and steam rains for the culture, to standing under a waterfall after a fabulous and free walk in the Pennines. The heated open air pool in Stanhope was great. Lots more to do. At the end of a busy day the apartment was perfect for families. Easy to cook and wash - loads of cutlery and crockery so that you don't have to run the dishwasher between every meal as in many properties. Clean, hot showers and both showers can be used at the same time without loosing power. The fresh local eggs on arrival (as well as other goodies) were just the perfet bonus! Recommend to everyone.
