“When we arrived I noted that the place had been occupied the week before so with the current situation that the place would have been deep cleaned only to find a layer of dust on one of the counter tops.”

When I went to use the hoover it was totally blocked and required a full strip down and clean. Same for the fire. Don’t mind doing it but we would have expected a basic standard to be met ...

When I went to use the hoover it was totally blocked and required a full strip down and clean. Same for the fire. Don’t mind doing it but we would have expected a basic standard to be met Bed - way too soft for us. It would be really useful to have a bed firmness rating to assist in the choice of booking. If we had known of the softness this would not have been booked. It was our biggest issue Location was great but the photos made us think there was an uninterrupted view across the valley. Not so. There has been buildings erected since the photo was taken. As for building works. The work next door showered the garden with material which needed clearing up. Not good for feet or paws All in all not the best break we have had

The property

A traditional terraced cottage situated in the centre of the ever popular village of Aysgarth in beautiful Wensleydale.

The cottage is full of character and charm, with old beams and the original stone flooring making it a perfect romantic retreat within the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

A spacious, attractive and comfortable sitting room welcomes visitors with a lovely feature stone fireplace with an open fire, and the room boasts a bright and cheery feel to the interior.

The sitting room leads through to a shaker-style kitchen with a dining area with plenty of work space to prepare evening meals.

A small porch leads out onto a private rear garden, ideal for sitting out on a summer’s evening and enjoying a glass of your favourite wine.

The spacious bedroom features a romantic wrought iron king-size bed and the large attached bathroom provides a luxurious corner bath and separate shower unit.

This is a great base to explore this fascinating area, with Hawes and Bainbridge just a short drive and some of the most beautiful scenery in the Dales right on the doorstep.

The cottage is an excellent base for walking and the nearby Aysgarth Falls are formed with a triple flight of waterfalls over a mile on the River Ure.

Tourists are drawn to the falls, which have been the subject of works by famous artists in the 19th century, including Ruskin, Turner and Wordsworth.

The upper falls also featured in the movie, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves.

This wonderful cottage is not to be missed.

About the location

Hawes 9 miles; Castle Bolton 4 miles; Leyburn 7 miles.

The idyllic Wensleydale village of Aysgarth is situated in a walker's paradise close to well known Aysgarth Falls and impressive Bolton Castle which dates back to 1379. Aysgarth Falls have attracted visitors for over 200 years, famously Ruskin, Turner and Wordsworth all visited and enthused about the 'falls' outstanding beauty. In the 19th century Aysgarth was a staging post and many a traveller would make their way down to view the falls from the bridge. Today, many will recognise the Upper Falls from the film Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves. In the nearby Freeholders' Wood, where the ancient art of coppicing is still carried out and visitors will find hazel, ash and wild cherry, among others. The woodland is carpeted with wildflowers in spring and is home to over 120 species. Aysgarth makes an excellent holiday location for walkers, offering a great base from which to explore both Wensleydale and Swaledale, with beauty spots in the area including Aysgarth Falls, Semerwater, castles at both Bolton and Middleham and of course, Hardraw Force - England's highest single drop waterfall at 99ft! There are also lots of interesting market towns and villages to visit, including Hawes, Leyburn and Bainbridge, to name but a few.
