  • "Fantastic cottage with everything you could need."

Generous welcome pack was a lovely surprise. Within walking distance to the town with numerous shops/pubs/restaurants. Great dog walks nearby and of course almost next to the fantastic Bowes Museum. Property was very clean and extremely comfortable. One of the best cottages I've stayed in. I would definitely return. A credit to the owner.

  • "Fabulous homely property in excellent condition."

Spotless when we arrived with a much appreciated welcome pack that was far better than expected. Main bedroom was very spacious and a fantastic comfy bed. Great to have a small enclosed garden for the dog who loved the dozens of rural walks right on the doorstep. House is at the end of town but just 3 minutes flat walk to the high street. Definitely one of the best we've stayed at with Sykes.

  • "Lovely property would definitely stay again if in the area."

Comfy bed, plenty of storage. Bathroom fine again plenty of storage for toiletries (only negative the sink was very slow draining). Kitchen had everything we needed, dishes, utensils etc. spacious dining room and living room with comfortable sofa and chairs. Plus a big thank you for the best welcome pack we’ve ever had, fresh bread, butter, cheese, eggs, milk, cookies and a bottle of wine! (Think I’ve remembered everything) The rear garden was safe and secure for our dog. Plenty of ideal walks from the doorstep, along the river to the Abbey ruins. It’s a lovely market town lots of places to eat and drink, plenty of shops and a supermarket. We were lucky with the weather lots of sun before the storm swept in as we left for home.

The property fulfilled all our needs. Great location for lovely walks with our dog. Shops, pubs and takeaways only 5 minutes walk from the house. The front bedroom bed was to soft for my husband (we have firm bed at home) that being said we did manage to sleep ok and it didn’t spoil our holiday. We all really enjoyed our stay. Thank you for the lovely welcome pack, it was much appreciated.

  • "The property is well placed for easy access to the centre of Barnard Castle and the outside space at the back is safe and dog friendly."

The property is spacious, the heating works well and there is an endless supply of hot water. However the properties beds and seating in the lounge are soft and extremely uncomfortable, we booked because other reviews claimed the beds were comfortable. If you have any medical issues with your back I would suggest this property is not for you. We left 2 days earlier than the change over day as we were so uncomfortable.

  • "The house was larger than expected, a good size two bedroom terrace, a reasonable size front room and a nice up to date kitchen diner, there is a small dining room to the side of the kitchen but did not need to use due to breakfast bar."

The main bedroom is a good size with a large king size bed that was comfy. The bathroom is also a reasonable size with a good shower and full size bath, nice hot water on demand. The location is as stated, and if you have dogs there is a nice walk around the museum grounds/wood that is just 2 minutes up the road, longer walks are just a 5 minute walk away down the road and across from the front of the museum, the town centre is a 5 minute walk with plenty of shops and cafes, a bit lacking in pubs with only one that we really liked(The three horse shoes) it was nice and clean and modern but the food choice was lacking. On arrival at Stang View there was a nice touch as others have said, with milk, cheese, eggs, bread and a bottle of red wine! We can vouch for the heating working as we were cooked in the middle of the night as someone had set a heating schedule to come on at 25 degrees! So just check no one has set a scheduling the heating control! The only slight niggles with the accommodation was it would have been nice to have black out curtains in the bedroom as it was quite light in the morning ( we like a sleep in!) also the large frying pan would not work with the induction hob, and a bigger kitchen bin as we had to empty it all the time, these are really minor things and we had a lovely stay and would stay again.

We love the location of the house as it is within walking distance to everything in Barnard Castle. The kitchen is very well equipped with every utensil and pot anyone will ever need, the induction hob is super quick and very responsive which makes cooking very easy and safe. Both bedrooms offer very good storage space and very comfortable beds. The bathroom is light and bright offering both bath, and fully enclosed shower options. The garden is enclosed and safe for our little dog who loved sunbathing on the grass. Great place to stay, we will be back. Ian, Mia and Patsy

It's perfect for three of us - comfortable and very easy to look after - and the welcome pack of essentials (including bread, butter, milk, eggs and cookies) was very much appreciated. The location is brilliant - within easy walking distance of town centre shops and supermarkets. Despite the cold weather we were very comfy reading in front of the log fire but did venture out for walks in the Deepdale Nature Reserve and from Bowlees Visitor Centre. We also took advantage of our annual passes to revisit the Bowes Museum (purchased in April as they were cheaper than day tickets). We mostly dined at home as few of the pubs offer evening meals during the week and the kitchens close early (at least early for us!) but we did enjoy a very good meal at the Capri Italian restaurant (five minutes walk away on Newgate) and takeaways from the Barnard Castle Fisheries and Babul's (both on the Horse Market) were excellent. We're looking forward to our next visit!

A couple of tips a) need to supply washing up bowl and drainer as not everyone wants to use a dishwasher and b)a visitors book to see what places to visit, places to eat that previous guests would recommend. Two minor issues that need robe addressed 1) ITV hub stops after about 40 minutes and will not restart. 2) Could not use the hob despite following the instructions provided as the only button that works is on/off, pressing the icons to select a particular ring to use does not work. Overall a lovely property and would highly recommend.

Enjoyed most our stay except for the garden, we had a couple of lovely warm evenings but was unable to use the garden as it was so overgrown. Getting to the bins at the back I had to fight my way through all the flowers and weeds that were across the path. The welcome pack was much appreciated, as was the overall cleanliness of the property. The issue was no TV signal which was due to the fire at the Bilsdale Mast effecting the complete area.
