  • "Great cottage located in a lovely village just off of the A1."

Cottage was very well appointed and the log burner was a great bonus with the weather changing the week we were there. Both bedrooms with an ensuite and we were not disturbed once during the whole week. Would definitely recommend to others and will use again when exploring North Yorkshire and County Durham, which this cottage is ideally situated to do. Great Stay.

The outside garden area was bigger than we thought with a lovely summer house. Would recommend. We would like to book again in the future.

  • "My first impression was that the cottage was cosy, seemed recently modernised and spotlessly clean."

The owner lives just across the road and came to check things were OK as soon as she saw us arrive. The welcome pack of tea etc was a lovely touch, as was the box containing guides to local attractions. For a cold and wet week in March the cottage kept us warm. Two rooms, each with an en-suite, was perfect for us. The bedrooms were comfortable with plenty of space to hang/store clothes and I was pleased there was a hairdryer. The kitchen was well equipped and having a freezer as well as fridge turned out to be more useful than I expected. Barton itself hasn't much in the way of facilities but the proximity to the A1(M) and Scotch Corner gave us plenty of scope for days out. We had a lovely week and would happily return to Magnolia Cottage.

Thank you for your honest feedback always appreciated Glad you had a good time hope to see you again We pride ourselves on giving visitors a good service Regards Phil jacky Property Owner

  • "Magnolia cottage is a hidden gem situated in the small, picturesque village of Barton in north Yorkshire."

The very friendly owners live just across the street and are on hand should you need anything. The cottage was clean, comfortable, nicely furnished and had the most comfortable beds. The added bonus was that both bedrooms have their own ensuite bathroom. The recently redesigned garden and summer house is ideal if you need some "time out" and personal space. The village has a well stocked local shop, the Half Moon pub ( no food, just good beer) ! and a travelling fish and chip van on a Tuesday. The cottage ideally situated for visiting County Durham and Yorkshire as the A1 and Scotch Corner is only a few miles away. We explored the local area which is steeped in railway history, visited the Tanhill Inn, the highest pub in the UK and Newby Hall ( recommend the guided tour) which has an excellent permanent dolls house collection, beautiful gardens, miniature railway, boat rides and a not too shabby cafe ! All-in-all we had a very good all round holiday experience and plan to return soon.

It is in a good location for exploring the surrounding areas. The owners are very friendly and approachable and it was nice having chats with them. This is a lovely cottage, decorated and equipped to a very high standard with everything you're likely to need. The owners (Jacky and Phil) live opposite and were on hand on arrival or when needed but totally respected our privacy throughout our stay. The cottage is in the quiet, pretty village of Barton with great access to wherever you want to go in the area. The village pub was also very friendly but doesn't do food. However, there were several pubs a short drive away that did fantastic food. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend Magnolia Cottage.

There was a hamper of essentials such as bread, milk, cheese, biscuits, coffee, etc plus a bottle of wine; toiletries in the en suites and boxes of tissues in all the rooms. The beds were very comfortable and we slept well every night as it was a quiet area. An easy to use wood burning stove in the sitting room was an additional pleasure on the chilly evenings although the central heating was very efficient anyway. The cottage was just a short easy drive to Richmond and then onwards into the Yorkshire Dales and the delights of Reeth, Muker, Leyburn, Hawes and the Wensleydale cheese factory, plus Masham and Bedale. Firstly you could not ask for a better standard of accommodation which has been well thought out and equipped with all you require be it a short or longer stay. Its location for exploring the nearby towns and villages could not be better and if you want to take the fast rout with its proximity to the M1/A1 you can reach most places of interest in less than an hour. For fuel would head to either Morrison's or Sainsbury in Darlington about 6 miles away as much cheaper that the service stations on the motorway. If eating at the Bridge inn (3.2 miles away) beware the portion sizes as they are huge and probably best to book to be sure of a table.

About the location

BARTON

Richmond 8 miles.

The attractive and peaceful Dales village of Barton is situated in lovely rolling countryside, just a few miles to the north of the popular market town of Richmond. Barton has a lovely village green, a stream winding its way through the village, a pub, a shop and a Post Office. Nearby Piercebridge is renowned for its Roman heritage, which dates back to around 70 AD. The Piercebridge Roman Fort Site, a recognised ancient monument, forms part of the region’s Dere Street Roman Trail, a celebration of the rich Roman heritage still to be enjoyed in the area. Forming part of the Teesdale Way, and within easy reach of the Cleveland Way, this walker’s paradise provides an excellent base to explore this delightful Dales area including nearby Swaledale and Weardale, with many bridleways, footpaths, cycle trails and lovely riverside walks available. Local attractions include the magnificent Raby Castle in nearby Staindrop, the Bowes Museum, York’s National Railway Museum, Durham Cathedral and of course the delightful market town of Barnard Castle. Nearby Richmond grew up around its castle set high above the River Swale, with panoramic river views. Within Richmond, narrow streets and alleys radiate from the cobbled market place (which has a weekly market and monthly farmers’ market) and there are numerous shops, pubs and restaurants to enjoy. The Georgian Theatre is one of the oldest surviving theatres in the country with visitors enjoying its regular productions all year round. An ideal location for exploring all of Swaledale, Teesdale and the Yorkshire Dales.
