  • "Great cottage in a beautiful setting."

All amenities you could wish for. Great to experience an air fryer too. Loved the log burner on the cold evenings. Beds very comfortable as well. The dehumidifiers were a great idea too. Was perfect having off road parking. The children loved the lovely neighbourhood and went trick or treating. Lots ti see and do in the surrounding area.

  • "Lovely little house, in the middle of nowhere yet close to everywhere."

Central for touring Durham and Northumberland. All mod cons provided including welcome hamper which was appreciated. Slight hiccup with hotwater but sorted by caretaker Gemma and helpful neighbour. Will return.

  • "A really lovely cottage."

A great size and plenty of space for the little ones to run around. Also a nice touch providing bread, milk, tea, coffee, biscuits and some bubbly. Slight issue with the hot water which is very temperamental and they could do with some much larger towels than what are provided. The back garden was a bit messy and there was the remains of a dead bird in the decking which took me a lot of effort to clear. It had clearly been there for months as stuck into the decking and mostly bones! But surrounding area at the back with farm animals was great for my daughter & it’s a lovely part of the world.

  • "Comfortable and pleasant stay at the cottage, which was organised very efficiently at the last minute and was in a really good location for us."

    Thank you.

  • "The house smelled strongly of damp- there were numerous overpowering, sickly smelling room fresheners which were no doubt to mask the damp smell - but it didn’t work."

There was no hair dryer! The bed in the room next to the bathroom needs a new mattress- it was lumpy & uncomfortable. A shame because the cottage was very clean, well decorated & spacious. There was a nice welcome basket. The damp smell spoiled it.

Thank you for your feedback I do apologise that you felt this way, the property is older dating back to 1890's. In order to rectify the problems you have raised, we have purchased additional air humidifiers that will be plugged in between guests checking in. A hair dryer is not listed but I have purchased one and this is now available for future guests. Regarding your comments about the lumpy mattress, a foam mattress topper has been added to this bed. Thank you for leaving this feedback, we do appreciate all comments left. Property Owner

  • "We loved the cottage."

Spacious and well equipped. Very comfortable and quiet. Best welcome pack of any cottage we've stayed in. We also liked the little touches like the fresh flowers. The location is good too - backing straight onto fields and with walks straight from the door. We would highly recommend this cottage.

  • "We didn’t have hot water or heating for 2."

5 days! On the second day Sykes offered to move us more than 50 miles away at 4pm. Sykes said we will receive compensation....still waiting for that confirmation! The guidelines in the house are not right at all! Where to find things ...as if it’s a different house! The listing says we will have a dishwasher...nope! You might want to update everything about this listing!

Many thanks for your feedback. Our property manager liaised with you regularly throughout fixing the issue and you were reassured that Sykes would reacommodate you if required or would have of course refunded you had you chosen to leave. The issue was then resolved and you advised you were happy to continue your stay. Sykes emailed you regarding a resolution but did not receive a response. They have now reached out to you again regarding resolution of the issue you had for 2 days of your stay. The advert does not offer a dishwasher, but does offer a washer/dryer and we will also review our appliance instructions at the property. Thank you also for the high 4/4 score you gave us for cleanliness, as we work very hard to maintain our high cleanliness standards. We will also be reviewing our heating system very shortly to ensure that there are no further issues. Property Owner

  • "We had a slight problem on the first day in that there was no hot water/heating - which turned out to be a lack of oil."

Obviously this was not ideal -- however, to their credit the owner/caretaker resolved this issue the next day (with a delivery), which meant we were set for the week. So all-in-all, a problem actually showcased how responsive they were.

Thank you for your feedback. Regrettably the pressure in the sytem had dropped and we are glad that it was easily resolved and that you found our response proactive and speedy. Property Owner

  • "Cottage was good and generally well equipped Nice park for children in Copley Hamsterley Forest close by well worth a visit for young and older Well placed for Barnard Castle and Raby Castle and close enough to Durham for a trip to Diggerland - brilliant!"

3 lights needed replacement bulbs at a cost of £9 (None provided) and for all the kind welcome pack it would been better to provide bulbs and more than half a toilet roll. No TV for 2 days then tuned through DVD player missing BBC and other channels often stopping with no signal and at best like slow motion

Thank you for your feedback. The welcome pack contains a sealed toilet roll, on top of any toiler roll already in the bathroom. We have a dedicated property manager whose details are in the information at the property and who would have given assistance with the TV and replaced any lightbulbs immediately for you. The BBC had retuned their channels which was outside our control and the TV needed retuning and we have now also had an engineer install another aerial for better reception. Sykes also had a dedicated ‘in property’ helpline for customers and their number is on pre arrival communications. We are sorry that on this occasion neither ourselves nor Sykes were given the opportunity to help you. Property Owner

  • "It was a lovely stay - the cottage is well presented, clean and tidy, in a good location for both local walks and visiting various sights in the area."

It was lovely to arrive to a bottle of wine, bread, butter, milk, and eggs and some biscuits too; a lovely touch. The beds were all comfy. The cottage had everything we needed without being cluttered, and plenty of space for storage in all the rooms. Great to have a starter of logs for the fire, and useful to know where to buy more logs locally. It would have been helpful to have some more instructions, such as how to operate the heating (the cottage was generally chilly, and the radiators in one of the bedrooms didn't seem to work), plus we weren't sure what to do with the bins - instructions for what could be recycled, which bin was which, and so on. We would definitely stay there again.

We’re pleased that you found the cottage clean and tidy and that the welcome pack and starter logs were useful. We will certainly review our instructions at the property regarding bins and recycling and will look at more detailed instructions for how to operate appliances. Radiators are individually controlled, and we will have that individual radiator checked by an engineer. We do have a dedicated property manager whose contact details are at the property, we do encourage guests to contact them to have any issue resolved as soon as possible for guest comfort. Thank you also for your high scores regarding cleanliness and comfort, we are glad you enjoyed your stay. Property Owner
