  • “Lovely cosy cottage”
The Bothy ticked all our boxes, perfectly located, there is a footpath opposite the cottage which follows the river side, ideal for early morning walks with our dog, there is a well stocked convenience store just along the road which is open until late, short drive into the lovely town of Richmond where again there are lovely riverside walks, the cottage is well equipped and comfortable with plenty of parking and the log burning stove is a lovely addition for winter breaks.

About the location

BROMPTON-ON-SWALE

Richmond 3 miles; Leyburn 12 miles; Reeth 14 miles; Barnard Castle 18 miles.

The village of Brompton-on-Swale is situated to the east of Richmond on the northern banks of the River Swale. Named in the Domesday Book the village name is believed to have been derived from “broom” (the Shrub) and “tun” an old English word meaning farmstead or village. Today the village is home to a traditional pub and village shop. There are pleasant walks to be enjoyed around the village and along the riverside. The nearby ancient market town of Richmond is three miles away with its cobbled streets and narrow alleys or 'wynds' which enshrine over nine centuries of busy history and unique character. The town grew up around its castle, a Norman fortress dating back to 1071. Today Richmond offers wonderful walks to be enjoyed such as the Castle Walk - a dramatic terrace walk beneath the castle walls - or alternatively walk alongside the River Swale where there are parks, safe paddling areas and small waterfalls to enjoy. Brompton-on-Swale is located between the Yorkshire Dales National Park and the Yorkshire Moors National Park providing an ideal location for exploring this scenic area.
