!! Property was better than we could of imagined. Great location in a lovely village. Clear instructions given for everything we needed to know. Welcome pack was a lovely surprise. Highly recommended if you are looking for accommodation in the area. Thank you for a fantastic stay.

But utterly fantastic ! We spent a lovely week at St. Edmonds for my wife’s 50th birthday and we will definitely be returning. The house is totally equipped with everything you will need. The grandchildren loved the large dining room and named it the party room :) The hot tub is huge (not the one photographed online) approx 6x6 with seats for 4 comfortably. Thanks for a great holiday.

The open fire is lovely. We would have appreciated an option to buy more logs (1 of our party is an expert on open fires)

  • "Beautiful cottage- much more spacious than expected, with plenty room for our family of 7 adults and a baby."

The lounge has very comfortable seating and the dining room table fitted us all around easily. Kitchen is very well stocked and it was very helpful having olive oil, dishwasher tablets, condiments etc. Hot tub is a real luxury and fits about 4 adults. The welcome hamper is a really nice touch - bread was particularly delicious. The cottage had been cleaned to a very high standard and the sheets towels etc were of high quality. Would have been handy to have an additional frying pan and a set of scissors but this is a mention not a complaint!

  • "I contacted Hayley on arrival as we couldn’t access the key and she text me back 3 hours later!"

Not great when you have 2 small children. We did manage to access it ourselves but you would think that the contact would be available around check in time in case of any issues. Lots of things that were mentioned in the welcome book were not available such as salt and pepper it did say there would be single use packets available. Also there is no mention of how busy that road is in front of the property it made us very nervous with 2 small children. And it was extremely noisy The information in what to do with the bedding and towels was contradictory in each bedroom and in the welcome book. Some said in the bag provided other said the bath ( for the towels) We had a lovely stay despite this.

A fantastic stay and with all the stress of coronavirus, Sykes cottages made our booking feel secure and dealt with changing the dates because of lock down in an extremely efficient manner. I was very impressed.

The house could do with a few more serving dishes and another shower in the bathroom and a few more outside chairs. It was very comfortable and quirky and we had a lovely stay, thank you.

  • "The cottage was beautiful and as described, we arrived and checked in no bother."

The hob we couldnt get to work but worked around that. It would, in my opinion, be better if there was another shower at the cottage. The large bathroom could easily house a new shower unit as the smaller bathroom where the existing shower is, the room is very small and has a low ceiling.

  • "The house is gorgeous, everything was available when we arrived!"

our family stayed over Christmas week and we wish we had extended our stay a few more days as it was just so nice! kids and adults all loved the hot tub! was so nice to have the washing facilities there too as we managed to come home with no washing! Bonus. Only thing we would have changed was maybe a few more seats at the dining table as we did struggle on christmas day to fit everyone around it! But we have already booked a smaller one of the cottages for a stay for a few of us as we enjoyed it that much :)

St Edmunds Cottages

Nestled in the peaceful village of Crakehall in the lower Yorkshire Dales, these cottages offer a serene destination for a relaxing break. From the outside, these pretty properties are aesthetically pleasing with stone frontages, window frames painted a tasteful mint green, and well-kept gardens with views over Bedale Beck. Inside, the cottages are a well-balanced mix of contemporary design and period features, with modern kitchens and bathrooms intermingling with exposed beams and original windows. The décor is neutral throughout with elegant splashes of colour complementing certain rooms. Despite the rural location, the properties are well connected with each offering WiFi and top-of-the-range Smart TVs. The village of Crakehall is regarded by many as one of the prettiest in the Yorkshire Dales, featuring a 5-acre green surrounded by Sycamore and lime trees, populated by stone-built cottages, some of which dating back as far as the 1600’s. It is split into two by a tributary of the River Swale, Bedale Beck, forming Little Crakehall and Great Crakehall. The complex of holiday cottages and their gardens overlook both the bridge and the beck, as well as the A684 road, which provides part of the Tour de Yorkshire route. The village is close to the market town of Bedale with its selection of shops and pubs, as well as museum and weekly market. If walking is more your thing there are plenty of picturesque walking routes in the vicinity, especially in the beautiful valleys of the Yorkshire Dales.
