The property

A stone-built, semi-detached barn conversion situated at the eastern end of the lovely Dales village of Carperby, just six miles from Leyburn in the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

Located in this small village, and surrounded by beautiful Dales countryside, this delightful holiday home provides an ideal base for a variety of groups, from a small family to a group of friends wishing to get away from it all and enjoy a taste of real country living.

Spacious throughout, the property retains much of the charm of the original dwelling, including exposed stonework, old ceiling beams and a touch of the modern, with a beautiful open plan kitchen/diner.

The main sitting room features a cosy woodburner set on a stone plinth, and the lovely furnishings, good views of the garden and the surrounding countryside make it a great place to relax.

The open plan, farmhouse-style kitchen is a great addition to the accommodation and provides a first class place to prepare sumptuous meals and sit round to discuss the adventures of the day.

Three well-laid out bedrooms with lovely features and the master bedroom with a luxurious en-suite further enhance the credentials of this superb holiday retreat.

A nice-sized garden makes a good spot for sitting out and enjoying an evening tipple, relaxing and reflecting on the day’s activities.

Set close to the 2014 Tour de France route, this property is ideal for cycling fans who would like to take in the stunning views whilst following this wonderful route.

Wensleydale is a beautiful area of the Yorkshire Dales and visitors can enjoy picturesque walks from the cottage's doorstep to spectacular Aysgarth Falls and atmospheric Bolton Castle.

For those who wish to discover more of the surrounding area, why not explore Askrigg (of All Creatures Great and Small fame), Kettlewell (where the film Calendar Girls was set), historic Middleham and Ripon, as well as the lively market towns of Leyburn and Richmond.

Also for visitors with children, nearby Forbidden Corner and the Lightwater Valley theme park provide brilliant days out.

This cottage provides all the ingredients for that well-deserved break in the country.

About the location

Aysgarth 1 mile; Castle Bolton 2 miles; Leyburn 6 miles.

This idyllic Wensleydale village is situated in a walker’s paradise, close to Castle Bolton, Bolton Hall, Leyburn and the famous Aysgarth Falls. During the 17th century, Carperby was an important centre for Quakerism and the largest building today is the classically styled Friends Meeting House which overlooks the market cross and village green. The popular village pub serves good food and an excellent range of real ales and is the main focal point of village life. Nearby, Redmire is on the Wensleydale Railway, which features steam locomotives during the summer and has regular special events. This is an ideal location for walking and touring the many attractions of Wensleydale and Swaledale - within a fifteen minute drive are historic Richmond and Middleham, as well as the attractive market towns of Bedale and Leyburn. There are numerous restaurants and award-winning pubs too, and nearby attractions include Fountains Abbey, Wensleydale Creamery and Rope Factory and Lightwater Valley. The nearest town, Leyburn, is dominated by its large market square, which still boasts a lively Friday market. The town has much to offer with its many craft shops, galleries and tea rooms. Also within easy reach are many other attractions, notably the Constable Burton Hall and Gardens with extensive parkland and woodland walks, the Forbidden Corner with its underground passages to explore, and of course the lovely Georgian town of Richmond with its fine castle ruins. Visit Bolton Castle, with its mighty towers and rectangular courtyard, one of the finest preserved medieval castles in Yorkshire. Dating back to 1378, much of the castle survived the orders to destroy famous Yorkshire castles, issued by Parliament in The Civil War. It is also located perfectly for cycling; the famous opening stages of the 2014 Tour de France passed just over a mile away. For the adventurous, mountain biking routes run from the door, over Preston moor and into wild Swaledale.
