  • "Really lovely cottage in an even lovelier village."

Will certainly go back. Owner really friendly and helpful. Highly recommended.

  • "We love staying at this cottage but as before it has two issues."

The first being that the bathroom now desperately needs updating. It is very calked up and did not feel clean. The grouting and corners were visibly yucky. Secondly the damp in the lower kitchen is really bad. Everything in the cupboards holds the damp smell so has to be washed before use. I kept everything on the top. It is a cosy cottage though I will not be staying again until a new bathroom is installed.

  • "Lovely clean cottage with everything you could possibly need."

A nice welcome package which was very appreciated, thanks Joanna. Neighbours were friendly and helpful with information on walks and places to visit. Nice spacious rooms throughout, stairs were wide (not steep) which wasn’t expected in a cottage. Comfortable beds with good quality linen. In all a fabulous place and we had a great time.

  • "Well I wouldn’t go again."

Dangerous shower very slippery and door gets stuck when closed. All the downstairs windows won’t open painter over. Smells of damp in the kitchen. Garden table held together with cable ties fell apart as soon as I put a cup on it. Living room is very dark and depressing needed lights on during the day but still dark. There was a wasps nest out the back and some wasps got inside my friend got stung. Welcome pack considered of chocolate brownies costing £2.64 and 1 pint of milk what an insult after renting the place for Nearly £600.

  • "Really enjoyed our stay in this cottage; unlike some we've stayed in, there was plenty of room and enough comfortable seating - there was only two of us, but even with four I think that would still be the case."

Piercebridge itself is very nice and even though the main road is quite busy, because the cottage is set back on the green and there are trees on there, it is barely noticeable. There is plenty of walking directly from the cottage and walking along the river Tees was especially nice. The farm organic shop, that is literally two minutes walk, has all the provisions that you might want. The local area around Piercebridge can be recommended, with Barnard Castle, Middleton-in-Teesdale (with High Force) and Raby castle with in easy reach.

  • "Lovely cottage in a peaceful location but close to plenty to do."

No complaints. Just a couple of suggestions - a hairdryer would be great as these are generally provided in most holiday lets now. Also, the shower door could either do with a good spray of WD40 or replacing….was very stiff when trying to pull it closed, was worried it may break.

Joanna was very helpful and accomodating. The cottage was bigger than we expected and the secure backyard was very useful for our dogs. We would definitely recommend this place to our friends and hope to return to see some of the sights we didn't manage to visit this time.

  • "We loved this cottage."

It is ideal to take a dog, great for walking. This is an old cottage so accept that things are not going to be modern and perfect. Everything we needed was provided. Things to be improved - smell of damp in lower kitchen cupboards and the shower+sealing need replacing but neither will stop us booking again. Beds very comfortable with good quality linen. Thank you Joanne

  • "We had a great week staying here, the cottage is both comfortable and spacious with everything we needed."

We loved the style of the rooms which matched the house perfectly. The shower room could do with a 'spruce up' but was functional, the back yard could be made more inviting, but again provided a functional space for washing down dogs / bikes etc., this is why we only gave four stars. We did have a few issues with the wifi, but the owner quickly sorted this out. Overall the cottage, village and farm shop allowed us to have a great break and provided us with a comfortable base to explore Teesdale and Weardale. Good value for money.

  • "We enjoyed our stay."

Piercebridge is a great location and a lovely village. The cottage was clean and had good sized rooms. Upstairs is delightful. The bed in the main room is comfortable. The kitchen is a good size and well equipped. Thank you for the extras eg. milk - a nice touch. The oven works very well indeed. The downside for us as older people was that the bathroom is downstairs, and the stairs are very steep. This made night visits to the loo a bit nerve-racking. The bathroom is cold (stone tiled floor) and a bit uninviting. It lets the rest of the cottage down. A wooden floor would improve it. Probably cool in a hot summer, though. We liked the front garden, but the back courtyard is bleak - it could be a real asset with a few tubs and simple outdoor furniture. The nearby organic farm shop and butchery is excellent and highly recommended. The Roman remains are spectacular. The dog loved the riverside walks.

  • "We have just returned from a 4 night stay at this quaint little cottage in Piercebridge."

The cottage was very much as listed. We were fortunate to be able to get an earlier access on arrival which was very much appreciated by me and my husband and our two cockerpoo's. The cottage is 2 bedroomed and the king bed was very comfortable. The kitchen is well equipped to self cater but there is also a lovely farm shop and butcher next door for additional fresh produce. The lounge due to the dark beams is a little dark during the day but cosy with the lamps on an evening. Externally there is a cottage garden to the front of the property and an enclosed courtyard with sheds at the rear. The only recommendation I would have to the owners would be to make more of the rear area for customers to enjoy sitting out. A power wash of the concrete to remove the moss and the addition of some planters and more comfortable patio set would make an inexpensive improvement to the overall experience. Only a recommendation. This did not detract from what was an overall delightful little cottage. One additional issue was the slow internet. After reporting to Joanna it seems that this was unusually slower than normal and the owners were keen to get it resolved. The village has the added attraction of the remains of a Roman fort and grassed area which is a hidden gem. Our two dogs absolutely loved this for running with the ball daily. As stated the local pub is within walking distance and served very good food. The owners of the property are a local family and were very accessible and friendly in dealing with our enquiries. Would definitely recommend the property. Thanks for a lovely stay.

Lovely welcome with tea/coffee, milk and brownies, great farm shop a stones throw away. Cottage was spacious, clean and cosy, pretty private garden well fenced in for my small dog, also walled back yard area to sit outside in evening sun. We enjoyed visits to Barnard Castle and Raby Castle only 20 mins drive. Would stay again, everyone we met were very friendly. Thank you!

  • "Beautiful little cottage in a beautiful village."

It was spotlessly clean with large pretty bedrooms and a lovely front garden overlooking the village green. Kitchen was well stocked and we had everything we needed . Owner very kindly left us a welcome brownie on arrival. The location was perfect for days out or just to relax and enjoy the local walks. The owner was accommodating and helpful. Only negatives for us were tiny and did not spoil the enjoyment of the cottage or it’s location. These were that the shower room needed an improvement but it was serviceable and clean. The rear courtyard had chairs and table to enjoy the outdoors but could benefit from a few flowers to carry on the cottage garden theme. Overall it was good value for money.

The cottage was cosy warm and lovely to come back to after exploring the area. With an enclosed front garden and back yard was great taking the dog, it also meant I was able to hose the dog off prior to coming in the back door. The kitchen was well equipped with decent sized fridge and freezer. Super to have a Roman Fort across the road, such a lovely village and the organic shop was well stocked. Overall a super stay!

A charming and welcoming cottage with period features. Perfect for our family get away. The rooms are spacious, the beds were really comfy and the towels were huge. We asked for the second room to be made into 2 single beds before arrival which was no trouble at all. The kitchen is very well equipped and the complimentary organic chocolate brownies were very well received! Piercebridge is a lovely little farming village. We visited the ruins over the road - a nice place to explore and let the kids have a run around and the local pub ‘The Fox Hole’ - we ate there once, the food was great. We visited Barnard castle, Raby Castle, there is Archers ice cream parlour nearby and another farm shop with playground called Ulnaby. We also went to the swimming pool in Darlington which was great. We ate at the Picco pizzeria in Darlington centre which was delicious and at the Black Horse in Ingleton which was great.

The local pub was a 2/3 minute walk away, the food was excellent as was the service our four legged friend was made to feel welcome. There is a farm shop that has local produce and a little cafe on the side just a 2 minute walk. It was nice to have walks within the area that we could take our dog on, as he is an old boy. Lots to do in the area and we ran out of days but be prepared to travel a minimum of 20 minutes plus to get there but thought it was definitely worth it. Highlights included Raby Castle, Barnard Castle, High Force Waterfall, The Dolphin Centre for swimming and slides. The cottage is well equipped for those who want to actually cook whilst on holidays and even had sharp knifes! A lovely and quaint cottage whilst still very comfortable with great quality bedding and towels. The rooms are large and perfect for a family of four adults. The owners warned us about the WiFi which was patchy but worked perfectly late at night so that I could still work. The brownies provided were delicious and their cafe and farm shop next door but one is definitely worth a visit. A fabulous relaxing holiday with great owners who checked with us to make sure everything was just right for us. Recommended.

  • "This is a nice little cottage, with a broad expanse of tree covered Village Green between you and the B-road traffic."

Very quiet, especially in the evenings. Surrounded by farm land, with an interesting and once important, Roman Fort to investigate across the road, but when you realise the whole village is built on top of the fort remains, you really get an understanding of the Fort size. There is a great restaurant (and pub), the Fox Hole, just 100 metres from the house. The owner's farm shop has a mountain of organic choices both home-grown meat and veg. Lovely country cottage garden with lots of bees drawn to the lavender and other traditional plants. We had a great time - 2 adults, 2 children 10 and 13. Though it was a bit of a drive to get to any attractions, the cottage is actually in the centre of a large area of attractions from the seaside at Whitby to the World Heritage city of York, another World Heritage site - Durham Cathedral and Castle, the Beamish Living Village and Fountains Abbey.

Beds were very comfortable. The garden furniture looked great but was a bit unstable so something more solid would have been good. There was only one comfortable tub chair in the dining area and two would have been nice. Unfortunately the lighting in the lounge was too dim and not conducive to relaxing and reading there, which was a pity, ok for watching TV though. Overall it was great and the owners were friendly and helpful. It's a really good spot for exploring the area and there's a lovely walk along the river.
