Loved the extra touches.Garden was large and very well enclosed for the dogs, no getting out from here, which is very important to dog owners. Lots of footpaths and bridleways on the door step and plenty to see a little bit further away.Fantastic holiday cottage, would definitely recommend to everyone.

Everything we needed was there very well equipped and cooked some nice meals. The beds were very comfortable. The village was very quiet, and the people were very welcoming. The Fall Halls pub was very nice, and the owners were lovely, we joined in the pub quiz, and had 2 lovely meals there. We will definitely be booking again hopefully a warmer month to enjoy the lovely garden. Annette Westwood

  • "Beautifully presented, extremely well equipped and thought out cottage."

Warm and clean on arrival with a couple of treats made us feel welcome straight away. Good selection of games and books, as well as tvs and radio to keep us entertained in the cottage, and plenty of beautiful countryside walks and places to visit on the doorstep. Secluded sunny walled garden, great for our dog, and we even managed to sit outside a couple of mornings with a nice hot coffee! (Coffee machine provided) Made good use of the slow cooker, great to return to a nice hot meal after a long day out, and 1 thing less for us to pack! Had a grocery delivery just after arrival, with plenty of space in large fridge/freezer. Nice and spacious with plenty of room when our family visited for games and meals. We were so impressed with finish and quality of the cottage, we have booked the smaller cottage next door for a return visit in the Autumn. Highly recommend , and looking forward already to our next visit!

We have had a wonderful stay at Hall Cottage, upon our arrival we were welcomed with cookies, milk, tea and coffee, much needed after a 3 hour journey. You have everything you need and more. Spotlessly clean, beautifully decorated and the beds were so comfortable plus ample parking for two big cars. Both gardens were fully enclosed and safe for both children and dogs. The owners emailed us personally before our stay with helpful information we needed about the cottage, the surrounding area and supermarkets, making us feel welcome before our stay. It says it all when you get home and our 4 year old granddaughter says to her mum, I don't want to be here I want to be back at the cottage, so many happy memories, it was definitely home from home. We would recommend this cottage to all, great for families with children and dogs and very dedicated owners who care about giving you the best holiday experience. The cottage is spacious, beautifully decorated and furnished set in a really lovely small village, with a village green and a super little pub. There were so many lovely extra touches which made us feel really welcome from the minute we walked through the door. (In fact we had felt welcome before we set off having received helpful, friendly emails from Mel.) There were shortbread biscuits, lots of tea and coffee sachets, along with a generous selection of 'pods' for the coffee machine. There was a generous number of loo rolls, as well as finding lovely, pristine white bath robes for the adults. The kitchen is so well equipped and easy to prepare food in; there is also a utility room equipped with a huge fridge, freezer and a microwave - and, to the delight of the children, an old-fashioned set of scales complete with lots of different weights! The rooms are really good, with plenty of seating in the lounge and really comfortable beds. Having a bathroom and shower room worked extremely well for us. The house was spotless throughout and, although the weather wasn't very warm, we enjoyed the garden and really appreciated the note in the information book suggesting the herbs in the raised beds were there to be used. It is hard to convey in a review just what a great place this is - all I can say is that we are already telling all our friends about it and can't recommend it highly enough.

The walled garden was so pretty and it was an absolute delight to sit out enjoying the late afternoon sunshine after a day out (we were very lucky with the weather). The countryside around is as beautiful as anywhere else in the country, but a great deal less busy. I recommend the Four Alls pub in Ovington for a meal (very dog friendly and very welcoming) but be aware there is no village shop so plan ahead! Hall Cottage provided us with a wonderful set-up, with incredible views from the bedroom windows and traditional features and comfort throughout. There are some really lovely walks, waterfalls, castles and quaint towns all within easy reach - we wish we had longer to explore more! Hall Cottages was such a lovely place to return to after each day trip - the dog loved the enclosed gardens and we all loved the BBQ, climbing roses, herbs and garden furniture. As well as the woodburner, spacious bedrooms and sociable living area with comfy U-shape sofa, snuggly blankets and Sky TV. Internet connection is there, but it isn't always perfect (as you are in the countryside after all!), so I wouldn't expect to go there and be able to do endless video calls for work, for example (but why would you want to?!). Such thoughtful treats left by the owner (treats for the dog and treats for the humans went down especially well!), so we felt really welcomed from the first moment. And we also appreciated the anti-bac by the key safe. The cottage was also absolutely spotless. The owners were also really friendly and helpful, they left lots of instructions and tips. We felt they would be there if ever we needed them during our stay, but we never felt 'watched'... we were left to enjoy our holiday, which suited us perfectly. Had such a refreshing break and wouldn't think twice about booking again! Thank you, thank you, thank you.

About the location

OVINGTON

Barnard Castle 6 miles; Richmond 12 miles.

The lovely small, picturesque rural 'Maypole village' of Ovington is situated on the south bank of the River Tees in County Durham and North Yorkshire boundaries. With a village green and a traditional pub that serves homemade food and real ales, Ovington is an ideal place for you to enjoy wildlife and country walks with golf, horse riding, fishing and swimming being just some of the wide range of activities which are available within an eight mile radius. Both the charming and popular market towns of Barnard Castle (6 miles) and Richmond (12 miles) are within easy reach. Barnard Castle stands on the site of an ancient Roman ford which crosses the river Tees. The medieval ruins of the castle still tower over the river and are well worth a visit. Known affectionately as ‘Barney’ by residents and visitors alike, the town boasts cobble streets, yards and back lanes, which were first laid out in the 12th century. The nearby Bowes Museum is well worth a visit and a wonderful way to spend a day wandering around this beautiful building and experiencing the fascinating exhibitions. The Pennine and Teesdale Ways, the medieval Raby Castle with deer park and magnificent waterfalls at High Force are all nearby, and Durham, Richmond and Ripon are within driving distance.
