  • "The Dairy is in a really good location for exploring County Durham with the city only 15 minutes away and being so close to the A1."

The road is rather noisy when in the garden but is not noticeable indoors. The property is well appointed with plenty if cooking utensils which was good as i cooked every day i was there. It also has a dishwasher and both a washing machine and a separate tumble drier. The bathrooms are OK but the downstairs shower could just do with some minor repair as it is missing seals on the doors so tended to make the floor very wet and at my age I did not want to climb in and out of the bath to use the upstairs shower. I would have liked the main double bed to be firmer but that is obviously a matter of personal taste. All in all I would definitely recommend this cottage and I had a very enjoyable week seeing the many interesting places in the area.

  • "This venue suited our needs perfectly, wishing to visit a number of attractions in the immediate area."

The cottage was very well equipped, comfortable and warm. Maintenace had a few minor issues, light bulbs blown, dishwasher not functioning, downstairs shower cubicle leaking plus a minor few areas looking a little tired, none of this spoiled our hosliday. It would have been nice to have had a welcome pack and a book to record our feeback directly. Our initial impression was a little disappointing, the listing gives the impression we would be on a working farm (2 llamas and a pygmy goat) in a rural area albeit near busy roads. The ongoing new builds adjacent to Bogma cottages dispelled that impression instantly and the 'village' of Coxhoe is disappointment having no attractive features.aesthetically.. The listing does warn about traffic noise from the busy road nearby and the A1M but the property is well insulated and this was never an issue. We enjoyed our stay but have booked a more rural area near Corbridge for our next stay in this lovely part of the country.

  • "A lovely conversion from a milking shed to a comfortable cottage."

All the facilities you need for your stay including comfortable beds, a cosy (but large) sitting room, 3 large TV's, strong WiFi signal, DVD player, washing machine, dryer, and plenty of books to get lost in. We had a lovely 3 nights here with a trip to the Metro Centre and Dalton Park outlet which was better. Tip: If you're following your sat nav to find the cottage, when you get into the village of Coxhoe disregard the sat nav and follow the directions on Sykes website. Otherwise you might end up driving around a housing estate like we did. Oh, and bring a stick for the border collie to chase!

  • "Firstly, I would like to say that this is a lovely cottage with lovely owners."

The location is great. You can hear the cars from the nearby road even with the windows closed but this didn’t really bother us. If you are looking for complete peace and quiet then this location is not for you. As for the building works next door, we had no issues at all. There was hardly any noise from them apart from an occasional heavy vehicle passing. I certainly wouldn’t worry about it spoiling your break because it certainly didn’t impose on ours at all. There were a couple of negatives. Firstly, there were many items in the kitchen which were really dirty. I literally had to wash everything before I used it. I do appreciate that this is more to do with previous occupants putting things away dirty and I also appreciate that the cleaners cannot check everything. However, this isn’t acceptable. The coffee machine was disgusting and hadn’t been cleaned at all. In fact, the last coffee pod was still in the machine. We ended up not using it at all as I was not prepared to clean it. Also, the kitchen table cloth was so sticky that I had to wash that down and there were also sticky coffee or juice marks on the footstool in the lounge, so I guess just a bit more attention to detail when cleaning. On the plus side, the bedrooms were good with lovely clean fresh bedding and the towels were also lovely, clean and fluffy. Secondly, and this is the one we were really not happy with. I can only assume that the listing on Sykes is well out of date, as we booked this property due to no pets being allowed. However, after sitting on the sofa for an hour my husband was covered in either dog or cat hairs. When I looked, they were all over the cushions, they were literally covered in them. We removed the cushions and brushed the sofa down. This wasn’t pleasant but we were okay once we had taken the cushions off. However, if we were allergic to dogs or cats then this wouldn’t have ended well, so please bear this in mind when booking. I can only assume that pets are now allowed due to the hairs. Also, the house next door had a small dog with them so I guess this is now allowed. If we had known this then we would never have booked this actual property, only as we prefer no previous pets in the property. It’s just our preference. Also just to mention that this property actually sleeps five people not four as there is a king size and a single bed in the main bedroom as well as twin beds in the other room. There are some parts which definitely need updating, such as the carpet in the downstairs shower room but otherwise it is a nice and spacious property which has everything you need.

Very helpful owners. Location not as rural as expected. There was work being carried out while we were there but this did not effect our wonderful stay in any way and the improvements will be worth it. Noise from A1 took a bit of getting used to but again did not effect our stay too much.

  • "This is a beautiful cottage, the photos don't show how HUGE and lush it is!"

It has everything you need for a week away, literally everything. The towels are soft, fluffy and smell glorious, and there are 2 showers to choose from (tip, the hot water only needs a tiny turn, the more you turn it the colder it gets!). The table outside gets the sun all day, and although you can hear the A177 and the A1, you quickly get used to it. You can sleep with the windows open without being disturbed by road noise. Its a great base for the active, but also a lovely place to unwind and read a book. Coxhoe village has a shop, pub, and restaurants but in a 15 minute radius there's loads of places to shop, eat, drink, and visit. Really great holiday home.

We self isolated for a week before we came away and observed all rules while we were away. We kept eating out to a minimum and made the most of the excellent facilities at the cottage to rustle up special meals. Yes there was some noise from the motorway which ran very close to the property but we quickly got used to it and of course it was convenient being so close to the network. We had some lovely visits to local attractions which were very well managed to minimise the negative impact of Covid. Beamish and the Royal Navy Museum at Hartlepool were very well run. It is advisable to book these attractions in advance. We will be booking again.

Very comfortable accommodation. Clean and well maintained, well-equipped kitchen. Road noise from the A1 is present but did not bother us as we were aware of this from previous reviews. Construction work taking place in close proximity but again did not affect our enjoyment of the cottage. Excellent base for Durham, Beamish, coast & beyond.

TVs, DVD etc all functioning perfectly and a well equipped kitchen rendering our habit of taking some sharp knives and a corkscrew with us totally unnecessary this time. A little road noise from the A1 but only audible outside, the location superb for access to everywhere we wanted to visit.

  • "The dairy is an extremely spacious and well appointed house."

It was like moving house without the mess as everything you could need was provided for. The kitchen had all the appliances you would need and a nice touch was the tea coffee and milk being there on our arrival. The garden was spacious and had sun late on and the resident sheepdog visited us every night to play football with her. Situated on a farm with cows sheep and alpackers that had a week old calf was nice. The dairys location is ideal for accessing the area and there are good walks everywhere. The only downside was the near location to the A1 as road noise was always there but you soon got used to it.

Large well keep enclosed garden which would be great for children to run around in. Extremely comfortable beds and lounge sofa. Nice big TV in the lounge plus two others, which was handy. Kitchen was very well equipped and everything very clean and nicely decorated. Some hooks / rails in bathroom & bedrooms, to hang towels and clothes, would have been useful, along with an airing rack for drying clothes which aren’t suitable for a dryer. All in all a brilliant base for visiting the area. We had Lovely days out in Durham, Beamish, Seaton Carew - and even took the train from Durham to Edinburgh to enjoy the Fringe. Would absolutely recommend this cottage.
