  • "The property was just what I was expecting."

I booked the shed and the Byre. Both cottages catered for our family reunion with family members from South Africa and Australia. The hot tub was used regularly and we were able to cook, eat and enjoy the evening together in the kitchen, dinning room and sitting after day visiting the sights around the North East

  • "A fantastic stay just outside Durham."

What a lovely large property well furnished. There is slight road noise outside but once inside we couldn't hear it or in the back garden which was a suntrap and lovely to relax in. The bedrooms were comfortable and the bathrooms were great. The living room was comfortable with a good large tv and lots of rooms to relax in. Plenty of space for parking our large car. We would definitely book again, and wish we had known about this property sooner. We thoroughly enjoyed it and wish we had stayed longer.

  • "The description of the rental is misleading."

The photograph used on Sykes website does not show the location accurately. Had we seen the state of the yard, the location next to the motorway and the adjacent housing development we would have not rented it. Also in the listing there are phrases that may have been more accurate when it was first renovated but words like “first class accommodation” are inaccurate. The kitchen and especially the work top around the sink is black from water and the wood interaction. We left the rental and went to a hotel. We did not stay there

Thank you for your personal feedback. I always value guests opinions and I have now asked Sykes cottages to add photographs of the yard so guests can see the surrounding area as I never come across any negative feedback about it before. The kitchen is as it is shown on the photos on Sykes website but I agree the water damage to the wood around the belfast sink is a problem but not unhygienic in any way but is now being replaced. I once again thank your for your feedback and which you a safe journey back to the USA Property Owner

We came up for our daughter's wedding and stayed on for a few days. We loved the lambs and llamas in the yard!

  • "This is my 3rd visit to the shed so I clearly love it."

The downstairs bedroom wasa bit dusty under the bed. To be honest, that didn't bother me at all but people would put a negative comment on trip adviser about this. I found the bed quite firm but that was a personal reference. I have stayed in the other rooms before which next time would be better for me. So people who like a firm bed, that room would be perfect.I love love this property. We brought a few new friends for our visit this time and everyone loved it. All the little touches of the coffee machine and the bar area was a lovely surprise. Hot tub is a massive hit. All bedding and towels are spotlessly clean. Kitchen is like home from home, everything you need and more. We will definitely be back and have recommended it others who are visiting in march. I would say you need to update your photos on the website to show off your beautiful accommodation. I will make sure I will book up as soon as the shed is available for Feb 23...might even do another visit at the back end of the year. The new decor is beautiful. I didn't think you could improve on our last visit in 2019 but you surely did. The only reason we didn't come for the last 2 years was because of covid. I will definitely be back.

  • "The accommodation is very good but was not as rural as we anticipated there is now a housing development being built adjacent to the property and the garden is overlooked."

There is a constant noise from the A1 if the property windows are opened otherwise an excellent accommodation with lots of space

  • "The Shed is a very spacious 4 bedroom converted tractor shed."

All bedrooms have own bath/shower rooms. Huge kitchen/diner and living room. Lovely garden with outdoor seating, a bbq and a great covered hot tub. Spotlessly clean throughout. Best equipped kitchen I’ve ever experienced. Lots of books and DVDs. Best part for our kids was playing with the very friendly farm dogs and feeding the Llamas, goat and sheep in the nearby paddock. Very friendly and helpful hosts. Great location for visiting Durham and surrounding countryside. Some road noise but not intrusive. Ideally, would be nice to upgrade to a Smart TV so the kids can watch Netflix and Prime Video. Highly recommended!

It's location was ideal for touring the North East being well connected to all routes.I would recommend the accommodation to anyone. The only improvement i could recommend is an upgrade to the Wi-Fi provision which limits usage to the main living room only. Other than that we would book a second visit.

  • "The Shed was a lovely property, with really good facilities."

There were two things which stopped me giving top marks for comfort: The wooden floor in the hall, approaching the living room is very, very creaky and was disturbing for anyone in bed, whilst others were still walking around. The second point was hidden dog poo, from the owners’ dogs, in the yard outside the cottage/ car parking area. This was partly concealed because of the fallen leaves. However, I don’t think there should be any dog poo lying around outside a holiday cottage. This problem led to us accidentally walking in the mess and, on one occasion, walking it into the car, necessitating extensive cleaning of car mats, shoes and throwing away a handbag! These points aside, we really enjoyed staying in the property and would consider doing so again, if the dog poo problem could be eliminated.

  • "The Shed is a great place to stay."

It has easy access to a host of different activities. There were 6 adults, 2 preschool children and one toddler in our group. The enclosed garden was great as the children had a free run. They also enjoyed seeing the animals in the farm yard. I would highly recommend this cottage for a large group.

We had hoped to have more interaction with the owners and see round the farm, so were surprised that they didn’t introduce themselves. However, this could be a positive if you want time away without intrusions! A lovely holiday

  • "We had a wonderful time in an extremely spacious comfortable property."

The children loved the animals and my 6 year old grandson who was afraid of dogs now wants one. Plenty of toys, games, football net in the garden. All the equipment you could need in the kitchen. Very rural but not far from shops and take a ways in Coxhoe. The only criticism is that cottage is not in the Yorkshire Dales but the Durham Countryside. Lots of places to visit, we went to Finchale Priory, Hamsterley Forest, South Shields, Seaton Carew, Durham City, The Angel of the North, Gateshead Saltwell Park as well as a family wedding.
