  • "WOW! What a fantastic place!"

We had a wonderful stay at Low Shipley cottage. I will definitely be recommending to all my friends and family. The owners are friendly and on hand if needed. The cottage itself is incredibly clean, comfortable and much larger than the photos show. I’m not sure if I have any words that can describe the view from the hot tub…..it’s simply awesome!

  • "Beautiful location and the cottage is well equipped."

Owners Derek and Nina are next door and very helpful. Hot tub is great with amazing views across the valley but can take a couple of hours to heat up, first time we've seen a log fired one but fairly easy to master. Access road isn't as bad as some reviews make out, just take it steady! Thank you for the lovely welcome pack of wine, chocolates and flowers.

The pictures make it look nice, but they really don’t do it justice. We came for a pre-Christmas break and it was everything we could have asked for and more. From the pre-lit Christmas tree, to the welcome gift of Prosecco and chocolates, to the selection of DVDs and board games; the owners have thought of everything. We came with a 7 and 3 year old and they loved it too. We’ll definitely be back!

  • "An absolutely wonderful cottage."

Really enjoyed our stay. The cottage is very well sized, and absolutely immaculate. The area is very quiet and the views from the garden are stunning, especially good to catch the sunset from the hot tub! Plenty of good walks and places to eat in the area. Just a couple of points - but by no means negative ones: - The track down to the cottage is quite bumpy, so beware if you are in a low car. - The hot tub took us around 10 hours to heat up from cold, so plan in advance. - The wifi can be a bit temperamental, which isn't really an issue, but if you are planning on doing any work or zoom meetings whilst here then bear this in mind. All in all we had a wonderful break and wouldn't hesitate to return! Thanks! Richard & Sarah.

Cannot fault anything Derek & Nina were the perfect hosts. The drive down to the cottage a bit tough but once you are there the views are stunning. An easy 1.5 mile walk in to Cornerstone the Fox & Hounds is only open in winter 12 - 2 very welcoming.

  • "We have stayed here before, and love the location!"

Beautiful scenery (especially now it can be enjoyed from a hot tub). The wood fired tub did take a bit of getting used to, the first day was spent getting it up to temperature. After that though, it only took a couple of hours each day to get it back to 40c. The house is lovely as well, a very peaceful and relaxed holiday. Also, nice being so close to Barnard Castle (10 min drive), plenty of places to eat and drink.

It had absolutely everything you could need or want and then so much more. We wanted a holiday which allowed us to be off the grid and that was exactly what we got. Everything down to the hot tub over looking the fields full of sheep where just perfect. I couldn’t recommend this cottage enough.

It was so comfortable and felt like a home from home. Extremely well equipped kitchen which was fantastic as we cooked in every night. Perfect for our 14 month old to roam around and even had a high chair and travel cot which was a massive bonus. We could not find anything wrong with the place and would not hesitate to book to come again. Thank you for a wonderful week.

  • "The cooker was a nightmare the oven did not work and the hobs were touch respond but were difficult to master as there were no instructions and owners were unable to supply any as there were no visible references to the model type."

The on suite shower head washer was wasted and leaked so there was no shower spray. The road to the cottage is unmade and very difficult. Otherwise this was a great location and the cottage is comfortable, we enjoyed our stay and if the cooker were fixed and the road improved we would be happy to return.

The beds and bedding particularly were very comfortable and fresh. The cottage is all on ground level, which I had not appreciated from the description, which could make it very suitable for some people (although there is a very small step across the middle of the lounge). The conversion of the farm buildings into holiday accommodation has been done to a very high standard, and the owners were welcoming and friendly.
