  • "This was my second stay at Folly Lodge and it lived up to the memory of the first."

The weather was very mixed but that didn't stop me enjoying my time there. Folly Lodge is beautifully decorated and finished and Emily and John should be very proud of what they offer to us. Thank you both so much, and I'll see you next year (already booked)

  • "A lovely clean and tidy cottage which was well equipped."

Welcome goodies of coffee, milk, fruit and even dog treats were an unexpected surprise. The owners were extremely helpful and nothing was too much trouble. The log burner was a delight and very cosy on a cold evening. We had a very relaxing break and would have no hesitation in booking in the future.

  • "My daughter and l had a very restful week at Folly Lodge."

It is so well situated for easy access to Teesdale and a wonderful location for walking. We did three magnificent walks in the locality one from the cottage. On other days we explored the dale towns and villages and the walled garden attached to the hall down the road kept us busy for a couple of hours followed by a visit to the garden tearooms which serve cakes to die for. The cottage is so well appointed and very comfortable. We enjoyed cooking our evening meals in the very well equipped kitchen. Although the cottage is connected to the owners house it is so well designed that you felt as though you had the place to yourself. We met Emily a couple of times and she made us very welcome but was not intrusive. We enjoyed it so much that l have already booked a return visit for next year.

  • "A beautiful, comfortable home with everything you need to enjoy your holiday."

We had a lovely week of relaxing and visiting the surrounding areas. Our dog Molly had a lovely time in the woods and the best bit was being able to enjoy the views from the seats at the end of the woods looking out onto the beautiful scenery. The family are very welcoming and the goodie pack on arrival was very much appreciated. Our daughter is now hoping with fingers crossed that there will be further additions to our pets if/when the duck eggs hatch that we were given to bring home. Definitely would go again.

  • "The accommodation is outstanding."

The owners, John and Emily could not have been more helpful. The only surprising aspect was the road noise bearing in mind the main bedroom and balcony face to the rear away from the road. Traffic passes quite fast and the road surface is of course grit that creates a lot of tyre noise. Such a beautiful location though, escape to the circular bench and firepit with a wonderful view for peace and quiet. Conveniently located for wonderful Tees walks and excellent restaurants, our favourites were the Forresters in Middleton and the Rose and Crown in Romalkirk. Easy day out to wonderful Durham and to Richmond and Swaledale. Stunning roads over to Weardale and up as far as Alston. Thank you for a great holiday, we will return and leave nothing behind next time!

In a beautiful setting the lodge is fitted out to a very high quality. The outdoor balcony is perfect for looking out onto the woods and garden. Emily and John are very friendly and the extra touches provided such as fresh eggs, fruit, milk, coffee, biscuits and even dog treats make you feel very welcome. Cant recommend highly enough!

The weather was up and down but we still managed to do lots. The hosts even swept the drive when they heard my daughter had brought her skateboard, and wanted to make sure she was safe. Would definitely return as would recommend to friends and family.

Enjoyed the woods that surround the property and taking the dog for a short walk before we went out. We enjoyed the Teasdale valley, so many footpaths and beautiful walks and given the current circumstances we felt very safe.
