  • "Well-furnished and very comfortable cottage with just about everything we needed, in an attractive village about three miles from Richmond."

Several dog walks in fields around village, but best walk from former Richmond railway station to Easby Abbey ruins, then back beside river. Angel pub in village does very good food, Wednesday to Sunday. Hope vacuum cleaner is fixed for next guests - battery wouldn't charge for us!

Beds were comfortable and the cottage was well appointed.

  • "Property was comfortable enough but we had one complaint about the laundry guy who just walked into the hallway of the property to gain access to rear garden."

This made my dog upset and also we thought someone was breaking into the house. This happened quite early in the morning, I understand that the laundry needs to be done but It would of been nice to have had some notice about this as it was after all our holiday and we would expect some level of privacy.

  • "Lavender Cottage was absolutely beautiful."

The cottage was decorated, furnished and equipment wonderfully, it truly felt like a little home away from home. Such a perfect location, easy to access the local area and easy to find too. We both had a really lovely time staying here, as did our Pup.

  • "A modern and well equipped cottage that still retains a homely and cosy feel."

The kitchen was light and had absolutely everything you could have needed during your stay. The living room was tastefully decorated but again keeping the cottage feel. The beds and duvets were very comfortable and having a shower and bath in the cottage was great - it was lovely to be able to have a soak in the bath after a long walk. All in all we had a lovely peaceful and chilled out weekend which exactly what we wanted - many thanks

  • "Such a lovely cottage."

It was perfect for us and our dog, with somewhere to dry him off before going into the main house. It had all the things we could possibly need for our stay and was close to the Dales, the coast and the Moors. Perfect.

  • "A lovely cottage with a feel of luxury."

Comfortable sofas and beds and a lovely modern well equipped kitchen. Nice friendly village with two pubs and very close to Richmond. Lots of walks from the door. Just one note for those who are tall the doorways are quite low so watch your head. It would be useful to have this in the description.

” Richmond Castle and a walk along the river is a must. I would recommend this cottage without hesitation. The previous guests had written in the guest book a hairdryer would have been nice, this was delivered during our stay.

  • "Lovely holiday cottage in a beautiful village."

A very nice welcome package and even biscuits for the dog. Two very friendly country pubs, staff very helpful and food in White Swan was first class. Didn’t eat in The Angel but it looked good too. No grocers shop in the village which meant you had to drive 2-3 miles to find one so ensure you are well stocked up on groceries. The area is peaceful with lots of lovely walks. This part of Yorkshire is very dog friendly and there are so many interesting places to visit. Richmond is a beautiful market town just 3 miles away and the villages of Kilburn, Wass and Coxwold are well worth visiting/driving through with quaint and beautiful country pubs. Amazing Sunday lunch in the Byland Abbey Inn. The whole area is stunning and the weather was glorious all week.

  • "Lavender Cottage is such a lovely, comfortable quiet place to stay."

Bath and shower kept us both happy and two sofa’s to lounge in the evening after a long walk. The kitchen has all the tools and equipment you need and the courtyard outside catches the sunshine most of the day. The White Swan over the road serves amazing food (closed Tuesday and Wednesday) and there is a great walk from the village to Richmond. Gilling West is a perfect spot if you are looking for good food at a local pub, good walks, peace and quiet, and a short drive from Richmond which a well worth a visit

Richmond town centre is just a 15 minute drive away and there are two great pubs within a five minute walk of the house. It’s an excellent base as the village is located just off the A1 and there are plenty of long walks, activities and places to visit and spectacular countryside and seaside to explore.

About the location

RICHMOND

Barnard Castle 10 miles; Leyburn 12 miles.

Situated at the entrance to Swaledale, the ancient market town of Richmond stands on a prominent hilltop site to the north of the River Swale. Its cobbled streets and narrow alleys or 'wynds' enshrine over nine centuries of busy history and unique character. The town grew up around its castle, a Norman fortress dating back to 1071, famously situated high above the river - indeed the name Richmond is derived from 'Riche-mont' meaning 'strong hill'. Today there are wonderful walks to be enjoyed such as the Castle Walk - a dramatic terrace walk beneath the castle walls - or alternatively walk alongside the River Swale where there are parks, safe paddling areas and small waterfalls to enjoy. Within the town, narrow streets and alleys radiate from the cobbled Market Place (which has a weekly market and monthly farmers’ market) and there are numerous shops, pubs and restaurants to enjoy. The town flourished in the 18th and 19th centuries and the resulting elegant Georgian architecture lines many of the old streets. The Georgian Theatre is one of the oldest surviving theatres in the country with visitors enjoying its regular productions all year round.
