  • "Lovley cottage, although the slope in the floor of the main bedroom made the bed sit on an angle, which made rolling to the edge commonplace."

(Perhaps a wedge under one side might have helped) A cloth to wipe surfaces in the kitchen and a scrubbing brush for washing up dishes (or a cloth for both) would have been useful and expected. Only one gin glass and no wine glasses was disappointing... (we've left another gin glass and a pair of wine glasses so that others don't find out the hard way...)

. No problem unpacking / packing the car in dry conditions. Lack of dry food storage cupboard(s) disappointing.Visiting maintenance engineer and groundstaff all very friendly and helpful. Rear exit door subject to serious difficulty on opening / closing due to weather causing swelling of door / door frame. (H&S) Spa Bath was excellent and well maintained, a great feature when booking. Parking was often a serious concern - when leaving the property, we were dependent in part on passing motorists occasionally slowing down / stopping to allow us safe exit on to the downward slope/bend. Traffic tended to be fast flowing most of the time. Greatly appreciated the help and assistance of the visiting groundsman who stopped the traffic both ways for us as we departed on the final day of our stay. Overall, a very pleasant stay and we would certainly consider a return booking.

The door cannot be locked, but it cannot be shut either! Each guest had to notify the other guests that they were going to the toilet every time in order to avoid someone walking in whilst the toiled was being used. We then had to put something behind the toilet door to prevent the door from opening itself. There was supposed to be one parking space for the kings cottage, but there were two vehicles (presumably belonging to other guests) parked there all the time. We did not quite know what to do about this. I’m not saying that this was your fault either but I wanted to mention it. Perhaps the signage can be improved to prevent other guests from taking the reserved spaces.

The bed in the main bedroom was the most uncomfortable bed we’ve ever come across. The mattress is clearly in need of replacing. The sofas are also terribly uncomfortable and also in need of replacing. Shower was poor, either scolding hot or freezing cold. Hot tub was over chlorinated making impossible to enjoy. On this note , the holiday cottage to the right of this has their hot tub right under the bedroom window for kings cottage which has the potential to create an issue should it be used inconsiderately. I was very happy with the cottage. But it was ruined by some people in the cottage next to us. I did ask them to be quiet and then had to go out later to shout at them. I had two nights of no sleep and I mean no sleep. Wed eve they were noisy and they were told to stop swearing by another guest. They finally shut up about 1.30 am thurs morning. I think I maybe had an hour of sleep then they were back out about 4.30 in the hot tub running around and the girls were laughing loudly and squeeling. This went on and I decided to get up. Thurs daytime was a mixture of them shouting and squealing being stupid standing on the tables outside. This carried on until about 3.40 am fri morning. I was so tired , I packed the car sorted the cottage and was home for 6.30 with a banging headache. I have been working non stop the past 18 months for the NHS and was looking forward to the break only to be more shattered than I was before I went.

I would definitely stay here again. There are just a few small things to bring up; The parking - there is one allocated space for each cottage but unfortunately another cottage brought two cars so they took up ours, not sure how this can be enforced as there is already a sign? Hot tub - lovely but needs to be more private, with hooks for hanging towels/robes outside and somewhere needed to dry wet swimsuits. Spiders/webs - there was a lot of these in the cottage, I appreciate high ceilings make it difficult but there was also lots around window frames which can easily be dusted off. I opened a kitchen cupboard and there was one living in there too! These are just small suggestions as they haven't put me off coming back. Wouls definitely recommend visiting thorpe perrow nearby, was a lovely family day out.

It would have been helpful if there had been a washing machine or at least the use of a washing machine. Wouldn’t be a problem if you were on a short break, but when staying for a week! Also we had problems with the bath draining after taking a shower. On checking I discovered the plug hole was blocked with a large amount of hair and other gunge - not a great start to the holiday. It would also be helpful if there was an instruction manual for both the cooker/oven and microwave. If there was any at the cottage we couldn’t find it. The only real negative was the traffic noise. When booking and not knowing the area we weren’t aware that the cottage was located on the main road from the A1 into the Dales Villages. Despite my comments above we had a great time. The hot tub was great, managed to use it a couple of times after the little one went to bed, we would have used it more if it wasn't for the weather as I think we went in one of the wettest June weeks the UK has seen for a good while. Little touches made for a lovely week, the hot tub was on and ready when we arrived and we were welcomed with milk, bread, butter and bacon to see us through our first breakfast. There was a basket full of logs for the fire which came in very handy, I didn't imagine needing to light the fire in June but it was needed and made for extra cosy evenings sat with a cheeky glass of wine. • "The cottage was beautiful, clean and cosy."

The bed was so comfy and all bedding was new. We loved the welcome pack with thick bacon, milk and even olive oil. Was just right to get us started. The cottage was clean and cosy and the log burner was fantastic as it was very cold whilst we were there. The kids loved the hottub. There is loads of things to do in Bedale and you don't have to travel far to see more attractions. The local pub is spot on. It is very friendly and serves lovely food. We will definitely be returning next year.

  • "This is a beautifully renovated cottage."

It is very comfortable with all the amenities you could ask for. The wifi is quick and no hassle, the beds are comfortable and rooms beautifully decorated. The kitchen is equipped with everything you need and the hot tub is very welcome at the end of a days walking. My only slight worry is that you need an internal mat at the front door as the carpet will get dirty very quickly.

  • "This recently renovated cottage is very clean and extremely comfortable, with excellent facilities."

It is situated in a lovely village; ideally suited for visiting the eastern side of the Dales. Owner is very friendly & helpful. However, the "private" hot tub is located directly adjacent to a footpath, running through the garden, that was regularly used as a through route by both maintenance & cleaning staff for this small group of holiday properties, during daytime hours. Whilst an "off road" parking space is said to be allocated to this property, it was not always available. Some signage may help overcome this and it is understood that the owner is intending to take such action.

  • "Throughly enjoyed our time at kings cottage."

The cottage is stunning and the photos really dont do it justice. Every tiny detail is covered here and to a high standard. Only downside for us was we wished we were there longer than 3 nights. Would definately recommend this cottage. Beautiful cottage. lovely village location and ideally situated for visiting the many surrounding places.

  • "The cottage was immaculate from top to bottom, extremely clean, well equipped and beautifully decorated."

We had a wonderful stay. The only downside was that there was no cot/highchair/stair gate available for our little one. However, the owner was extremely helpful on the Friday night we arrived by going to the shop and supplying us with a cot at really short notice. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a nice relaxing break in a pretty little village in Yorkshire.

It is split into two by a tributary of the River Swale, Bedale Beck, forming Little Crakehall and Great Crakehall. The complex of holiday cottages and their gardens overlook both the bridge and the beck, as well as the A684 road, which provides part of the Tour de Yorkshire route. The village is close to the market town of Bedale with its selection of shops and pubs, as well as museum and weekly market. If walking is more your thing there are plenty of picturesque walking routes in the vicinity, especially in the beautiful valleys of the Yorkshire Dales.
