The kitchen especially had a welcome array of utensils, crockery etc often lacking in holiday properties. The only negative was the super king size bed was extremely hard and therefore rather uncomfortable. However, it is still a beautiful cottage, well cared for, in an enviable location and we hope to return ( possibly with a mattress topper!)

Also, on the website there is a photo of a bistro table and chairs in the yard, implying it is a usable outside space. Not only was the table not there but the yard is a dank, unpleasant area you wouldn't want to sit in anyway. I feel that it should be made absolutely clear in the description that there is no outside space in which to sit and that is the reason we would not book the cottage again.

Because of this we had to then cancel all our plans which we had made for the evening . Not a good start to our holiday. Cottage was very clean but needed some refreshing in parts. Felt quite damp in places . We were a party of 3 adults and 2 children and fitted in fine but not a lot of room.We were aware there was no garden but the small courtyard was very unkempt and so we didn’t use that at all. We feel it should be emphasised that it is only suitable as an alternative entrance/exit.

It was so handy for walking to the town which is a lovely place. The parking can be a bit tricky at times but we managed to deal with it. Richmond is lovely and has all your shopping needs right at hand. For coffee we recommend Mocha on the Market Place. The pies from the Noted Pie Shop lived up to their reputation too! We had the most delicious Sunday roast beef lunch in The Fleece and highly recommend going there, even for a drink. We also ate in La Piazza Italian restaurant and thoroughly enjoyed it. If you enjoy walking please try some of the recommended walks as they are lovely. The gentleman in the Tourist Information office was extremely helpful giving us advise etc. Also pay a visit to The Station , it’s amazing! We had ice cream there, coffee, shopped in the gift shop and even saw a film in the cinema! All excellent! Also explore the towns and villages round about, they are all so lovely. The cottage itself was excellent. Everything you need and very quiet as it is down a gorgeous wee cobbled street with no traffic. In one minute you’re at the castle and the Market Place. All in all a very enjoyable holiday. Thank you

The location is perfect for the town and surrounding area, car parking is just near the castle up the road or in the market square a few minutes away. We went to the Mocha coffee shop in the square and thought the coffee and chocolates were amazing. We also loved the antique shop down the road from the Mocha coffee shop, there is also an award winning garden to visit just around the corner which is certainly worth the trip. It’s called Millgate House and is simply stunning. About the location

RICHMOND

Barnard Castle 10 miles; Leyburn 12 miles.

Situated at the entrance to Swaledale, the ancient market town of Richmond stands on a prominent hilltop site to the north of the River Swale. Its cobbled streets and narrow alleys or 'wynds' enshrine over nine centuries of busy history and unique character. The town grew up around its castle, a Norman fortress dating back to 1071, famously situated high above the river - indeed the name Richmond is derived from 'Riche-mont' meaning 'strong hill'. Today there are wonderful walks to be enjoyed such as the Castle Walk - a dramatic terrace walk beneath the castle walls - or alternatively walk alongside the River Swale where there are parks, safe paddling areas and small waterfalls to enjoy. Within the town, narrow streets and alleys radiate from the cobbled Market Place (which has a weekly market and monthly farmers’ market) and there are numerous shops, pubs and restaurants to enjoy. The town flourished in the 18th and 19th centuries and the resulting elegant Georgian architecture lines many of the old streets. The Georgian Theatre is one of the oldest surviving theatres in the country with visitors enjoying its regular productions all year round.
