  • "We have a wonderful weekend in this beautiful apartment."

It is in a great location and has everything you need for a relaxing break. It's a real gem of a place and we'll definitely be back!

  • "1.The property does not have a proper operating manual for all the different devices such as cooker and heating."

2.The hob is an induction one but some of the pans are not suitable for this. 3. Some of the cooking utensils had burned on food and were not useable. 4. There were lots of dead flies on several of the window cills and floors, showing that the property had not been properly prepared before we arrived. All of the above is a great shame because the location of the property is excellent but it comes across as needing some attention to bring it up to its potential.

  • "We had a fabulous stay at Swale House with two young children for an extended weekend in Richmond."

The house is situated right in the centre of town and was immaculately clean on arrival, with an open plan lay out in the living room / kitchen area and plenty of toys and games to play with that makes it ideal for two young kids. We ate in the property for the duration of our stay - there is a high spec kitchen with good appliances and lots of room to prepare food, with lovely views out over the town and surrounding area. I'd recommend this property to anyone looking for a stay in RIchmond and looking to explore the surrounding Yorkshire Dales!

  • "Perfect location comfortable for 6 adults lovely and warm the shower was very good just be careful with hot water running out if you have baths instead of showers we would recommend this property."

We had two cars and parked them up at the long stay using the free pass for one and pay for a weekly ticket for the second which is approx 6 mins walk away .

  • "The information around parking was not accurate."

The one allocated space is actually a public car park 10 minutes walk away. We had to take our belongings then return cars to car park. Therefore if you have more than one car like our party did be prepared for a walk and additional cars have to pay. The apartment was nice, bedrooms etc a good size. There were a lot of flies and a smell of cigarette smoke on entering the property. The cupboard to put our rubbish downstairs was also very full. The property is in an excellent location and a stones throw from the market square.

  • "Sykes holidays managed the booking process very efficiently from start to finish."

We were kept fully informed throughout. Thank you, we will definately use you again. The holiday apartment was as expected. Comfortable and clean with everything provided for our stay. The location was excellent. One minor consideration would be having a small rail/handle near the front door to make it easier to get up and down the outside steps. Given the age and type of property, these are well worn and could be difficult for some people to negotiate safely. Richmond far exceeded our expectations. A lovely market town with fabulous places to eat and so many interesting things to see. We would definately like to return.

The apartment light and airy, the beds very comfortable. For a central location very peaceful. The views over the Dales stunning too

  • "The accommodation is very well situated in the centre of Richmond and there are tremendous views of Swaledale."

The house was clean, the beds comfortable and the kitchen well equipped. All that is needed for a relaxing holiday.

  • "A clean, quirky, centrally located apartment with all the appliances and utensils you can expect and hope for from a holiday let."

An Ideal property for a family to use to explore the town of Richmond and the beautiful surrounding area. We’ll be back, I’m sure!

  • "Very comfortable accommodation, crisp and modern in a perfect location with views of Richmond Castle and close to the Market Square but still quiet."

Parking permit was very welcomed. The only other comment is that clearer instructions on where to leave rubbish would have been helpful. I would recommend the property to others.

  • "No cupboard space to put food."

Floors not clean. Corners filthy. Main bathroom had lots of mould in shower. Smoke alarm went off in main bedroom at 2am for no reason. Unpleasant smell on entering property.

  • "Beautiful well equipped apartment with lovely views of Richmond Castle."

Tucked down a cobbled street in the centre of Richmond it was great for accessing everything Richmond had to offer. Spotlessly clean with a great shower and comfortable beds. We would definitely stay again. The only negative was there are quite a lot of stairs even to access the ‘ground floor bedroom’.

  • "The apartment was very cosy and much bigger than I imagined, with lovely views of the hills."

A previous review suggested we may need to bring extra pans, glasses etc. so we did, but this was totally unnecessary as there were plenty there for us - it was very well equipped!

  • "Excellent location and so close to amenities ."

Could not fault appt in any way . It was so quiet down the narrow cobbled street where it is and the views were amazing. There was everything we needed and wished we had booked an extra night . The only difficulty was parking but we got our head round the disc system once we asked. Would definitely recommend

  • "The apartment itself is bright and airy."

All rooms are beautifully decorated. The shower and baths are excellent. The views are stunning. And there’re several hairdryers which was a pleasant surprise. I also bought a few Lucy Pittaway prints after seeing them in the apartment! Some points to note though- There’re no bins in the cupboard as noted in the property information file. Some of the lighter saucepans do not work on the induction plate. It was very frustrating until we finally worked out the reasons. These pants should be replaced. The heavier pans are fine. The top floor bedroom has no wardrobe. I know it’s hard to fit this in due to the ceiling, but you’d expect the master room to be better equipped than that. Perhaps some more hooks and coat hangers? Although I love all the blankets and beautiful cushions etc, I do feel these should be removed due to the current situation. Alternatively, these could be disinfected after each stay and a sign to indicate this is displayed. I had to remove all of these when we arrived.

About the location

RICHMOND

Barnard Castle 10 miles; Leyburn 12 miles.

Situated at the entrance to Swaledale, the ancient market town of Richmond stands on a prominent hilltop site to the north of the River Swale. Its cobbled streets and narrow alleys or 'wynds' enshrine over nine centuries of busy history and unique character. The town grew up around its castle, a Norman fortress dating back to 1071, famously situated high above the river - indeed the name Richmond is derived from 'Riche-mont' meaning 'strong hill'. Today there are wonderful walks to be enjoyed such as the Castle Walk - a dramatic terrace walk beneath the castle walls - or alternatively walk alongside the River Swale where there are parks, safe paddling areas and small waterfalls to enjoy. Within the town, narrow streets and alleys radiate from the cobbled Market Place (which has a weekly market and monthly farmers’ market) and there are numerous shops, pubs and restaurants to enjoy. The town flourished in the 18th and 19th centuries and the resulting elegant Georgian architecture lines many of the old streets. The Georgian Theatre is one of the oldest surviving theatres in the country with visitors enjoying its regular productions all year round.
