  • "We were met by Vicky the owner who walked me through the cottage to explain the heating and water."

Because we arrived in the dark Vicky had taken the time to switch on the lamps in the lounge and bedroom making the cottage feel warm and welcoming. The cottage is quirky, spotlessly clean with excellent furnishings and everything you could possible need to accommodate your stay. Also the welcome pack was excellent we did not expect the biscuit's, bread milk and butter which is very thoughtful as some providers fail to produce the basics. Little touches throughout the cottage such as night creams, disposable slippers and hand creams were also very thoughtful. We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend and the people of Hudswell are very welcoming. We received exceptional service in the George & Dragon were we sampled lots of the different cask and keg ales and also the food. Thank you Vicky keep doing what you are doing you have got it right.

Thank you so much for your lovely feedback. Really pleased you enjoyed the cottage and your stay in Hudswell. Hope yo see you again. Vicky Property Owner

A lovely location for walks and rides out to other locations. We ate in the pub several times, the food was good and very reasonably priced and the staff were lovely. The little shop was lovely too and very handy. The cottage was comfortable and warm and absolutely spotless. It didn't matter that the weather was bad for a couple of days as we were very cosy indoors. Super secure for our dog as both front and back doors had walled areas. Would not hesitate to book again.

  • "Blacksmith's Cottage was perfect for us."

Furnishings are to a high standard and Vicky has a good eye for detail with some lovely finishing touches. We found the cottage very comfortable and well-equipped with everything we needed. The bed is quite firm which isn't to everyone's liking, but we've taken to travelling with a mattress topper which meant it wasn't a problem. The shower was wonderful. Welcome groceries and information folders were very useful. The outside space is compact but nicely appointed. Parking was easy. Hudswell is a very friendly village with a community owned pub and shop, The George and Dragon and The Little Shop. We had an evening meal at the pub which was very tasty and reasonably priced. We discovered our new favourite beer, Rudgate Ruby Mild. The Little Shop has fresh bread daily and fresh baked goods on Wednesdays and Fridays which sell out quickly. There are several walks from the village detailed in a handy local guide. We had a lovely stay in the Blacksmith's Cottage and would happily stay again.

Small but perfectly formed, the owners go above and beyond what can normally be expected. To be honest, we are a little fussy, and normally our first hour or so is spent washing crockery, glassware and cutlery "to be certain". Truly no need here, everything immaculate. Just some of the things waiting for us: A cream tea! YES. Basic essentials in the fridge. Small torches in the bedroom, lounge and kitchen. Dog towels. I know I have missed things out, but the first sentence describes it all. No hesitation in recommending this cottage.

the George and Dragon pub was a stone's through away. OK for a drink but the food was awful, had to pay £2 for each selection of veg, which could make it very expensive, The Holly on the Hill approx 2 miles away was very good, to far to walk thouh unless you're very energetic, weather was terrible, foggy, misty, rain, damp, but that is not anyone's fault. About the location

HUDSWELL

Richmond 2 miles.

Hudswell is a small ribbon village sitting on top of the valley above the River Swale, located just two miles from its better-known neighbour of Richmond in Swaledale. Set in delightful rolling countryside, the village boasts a mixture of lovely old houses, and a most interesting local pub, the George and Dragon. Like many village pubs, it recently fell on difficult times, so the villagers clubbed together and now run it as a 'Community Pub Initiative'. The ancient market town of Richmond stands to the north of the River Swale. Its cobbled streets and narrow alleys embody nine centuries of history and unique character. The town grew up around its castle. Today there are wonderful walks to be enjoyed by the castle or alongside the River Swale where there are parks, safe paddling areas and small waterfalls. Narrow streets and alleys radiate from the cobbled Market Place (which has a weekly market and monthly farmers' market) and there are numerous shops, pubs and restaurants to enjoy.
