  • "Severe lack of pans in the kitchen."

    And also creaky floors

  • "Only on arrival did I realise that there is no terrestrial TV in North Yorkshire."

Due to Covid, no games, no DVD's and no books - not even a Visitor Book! Thus lack of TV a real issue that led to us purchasing DVD's - as the cottage did have a DVD player. However, cottage very comfortable and well equipped otherwise - and extremely clean on arrival.

  • "A pleasant stay."

The cottage is a good size for a family and the conservatory a lovely place to sit. A nicely supplied campsite on the River Swale. Five minutes drive (if that) from Richmond.

  • "We found the property very comfortable and well furnished."

The sunroom was well used by us during our stay. We would certainly book again if we wanted to stay in the same area.

  • "Inaccurate description of adjacent holiday park----it is large not small---not that this was a problem write-up gives the the impression that there is views of surrounding countryside from property but only view is neighbouring repair yard!"

  • "Location was very good for the areas we wanted to visit."

The house itself although on the edge of the owners caravan site was very private. I would visit this place again and would also recommend to friends and family.

  • "This was our second visit."

There was a thoughtful welcome pack of jams and biscuits waiting for us again. The cottage was warm and cosy and had everything we needed for a lovely, restful holiday.

  • "It was a pleasant stay and our host was friendly."

A lack of WiFi was a disappointment. The cottage was fine but the actual location permitted only limited views of the surrounding countryside and was adjacent to the working yard for the caravan site. The garden comprised stones and paving plus a little decking making it somewhat cold and unattractive to sit outside.

  • "There was a small welcome basket with biscuits, cereals and jams waiting when we arrived."

Lovely! Every essential was provided for our stay. And everything was easy to use, from the showers and cooker to the dishwasher and central heating. No hiccups at all!! We particularly loved the beautiful sun room where we spent our daytimes when we weren’t out and about. There was loads is room for all. The owners were welcoming and then discreet during our stay. We will definitely return!

  • "There were a few issues , I e the showers need some attention they go hot and cold all the time, also the amount of crockery in the kitchen needs to be looked at as there are not enough bowls, side plates etc for six people."

This however did not deter from what was a lovely time away.

  • "The cottage was a superb base from which to explore the Dales & all there is to offer while being in a quiet location next to the Swale."

Richmond, Leyburn & Catterick are all in close proximity providing a wide range of shops for all the family’s needs. The site is family friendly with a great play park for the kids & superb riverside frontage to explore. Loved it & am considering booking again.

  • "The location is given as on a small caravan site."

In fact it is adjacent to that site and really is set in a semi-industrial location. The information as to location is somewhat misleading though the activity around is minimal. There was a problem with the oven. The thermostat had failed and so could not control the temperature. This was reported and fixed after three days.

Only 5 minutes run into Richmond. No shop on site but vending machine with drinks and crisps.

  • "An ideal location as both a gateway to the dales and too the A1m."

We found the cottage had everything we required and that nearby Richmond was perfect for buying any groceries we wanted with lots of shops and a superb Lidl store. During our stay we visited Hawes, Beamish, Northallerton, Ripon, Harrogate, Saltburn, Yarm, Knarsborough, Leyburn, The Forbidden Corner and finished our stay with a show at the wonderful theatre in Richmond. A memorable holiday for all of us and by the way we are three ladies, all in our seventies.

  • "What a great find this was for our annual break with Mum & Dad."

They both have health issues so having a property which was all in one level was essential for us. Superbly appointed with everything one would need for a fantastic break. The property is situated on a lovely family friendly but quiet caravan site with the beautiful River Swale bordering the site. Richmond, which is a lovely twon is two miles up the road and miles upon miles of the best scenery right on the door step! We really enjoyed it and would have no hesitation in rebooking for next year. I would also highly recommend the George and Dragon pub in Hudswell which is 3 miles away for superb food and a warm welcome.

About the location

RICHMOND

Barnard Castle 10 miles; Leyburn 12 miles.

Situated at the entrance to Swaledale, the ancient market town of Richmond stands on a prominent hilltop site to the north of the River Swale. Its cobbled streets and narrow alleys or 'wynds' enshrine over nine centuries of busy history and unique character. The town grew up around its castle, a Norman fortress dating back to 1071, famously situated high above the river - indeed the name Richmond is derived from 'Riche-mont' meaning 'strong hill'. Today there are wonderful walks to be enjoyed such as the Castle Walk - a dramatic terrace walk beneath the castle walls - or alternatively walk alongside the River Swale where there are parks, safe paddling areas and small waterfalls to enjoy. Within the town, narrow streets and alleys radiate from the cobbled Market Place (which has a weekly market and monthly farmers’ market) and there are numerous shops, pubs and restaurants to enjoy. The town flourished in the 18th and 19th centuries and the resulting elegant Georgian architecture lines many of the old streets. The Georgian Theatre is one of the oldest surviving theatres in the country with visitors enjoying its regular productions all year round.
