..beds so comfy .The only thing we didn’t like is the corner bath, impossible to have a soak, plug one end, taps other, and a shelf, very awkward to get out when your not as sprightly....but the shower made life easier.Downstairs shower would be lovely if there was any heating, towel rail heats but not the room.Facilities otherwise great and garden and view to die for...Light not working in conservatory..would make a third visit...

  • "A well equipped cottage with a beautiful garden overlooking open fields."

Lovely flowers and fruit pies, tea and coffee left for our arrival, little dog treat bags for our two canine boys too. We used a supermarket delivery on the eve of our arrival to save packing tons of stuff, plus it meant we didn’t need to rush out to the shops. The kitchen was well equipped and well used by us, the cottage warm, spacious and comfortable, had the best nights sleep in the bed, wanted to pack it up and take it back with me! Huge TV in the living room made for great family cinema nights of an evening all snuggled on big, comfy sofas. The hot tub was a welcome addition after a day out with the kids! The children enjoyed ‘spooky Halloween baths’ before bed with the blue light on in the bathroom and glow in the dark bugs in the large corner bath upstairs! Location of the house is great for visiting local attractions (we went to Thorp Perrow, Barnard Castle, Lightwater Valley, Head of Steam and Hamsterley Forest whilst there), the pub just a couple of minutes walk from the front door serving lovely food was a bonus. If the cottage could benefit from anything, it would be a standard lamp in the living room behind the sofa near the window for reading - that’s literally it, everything else we needed was there, would recommend staying here and would definitely stay again.

Thank you very much for taking the time to leave your lovely feedback, we do appreciate it and look forward to welcoming you back again in the future. Property Owner

At Ivy Cottage, we always welcome feedback from our customers, and thank you for taking the time to do so. I am sorry to hear that the on-street parking and volume of farm traffic was a cause for your concern. I am also sorry to hear that your first night was disturbed by neighbour's dogs. Both these issues have never been reported to us previously and are unfortunately beyond our control. I wonder why, when you declare the property as Meeting Expectations and the above being your only concerns, you give such low scores on comfort, cleanliness, and facilities etc? At Ivy Cottage we actively encourage our guests to inform us of any problems so that we can endeavour to rectify them as soon as is practicably possible and if you experienced any other issues, had we been made aware, we would have dealt with them immediately. Once again thank you for your feedback and we hope that you would still consider using us again. Property Owner

  • "A really well appointed and comfortable cottage."

Absolutely everything you need for a great stay. Lovely rooms, large and spacious, great facilities and hot tub if you want it. Very sweet, well maintained garden with a bench overlooking the countryside beyond. Great and secure for the dog. Wonderful walks just outside the door, but equally so many great places to explore too. Historic castles all around. Shops, pubs and fuel within a few miles of the cottage. No facilities within Ingleton, nearest small store 2 miles away in Gainford. The owners of the cottage more than helpful with anything that we needed. A wonderful stay.

  • "The host for the cottage was excellent as was the cottage."

However my experience with Sykes was poor. Having stayed in Sykes listed cottages previously I was not happy with Sykes treatment of returning customers- money before customer care.

  • "Lovely holiday cottage, great garden and hot tub, all very clean and tidy , would recommend but we did get slightly fed up with reading about how Sykes would contact us after our stay for monies owed for any breakages."

This message was repeated many times in the info book/ board but nothing about compensation for the holidaymaker for things not working. WiFi was offline for 2days, TV not working in main bedroom, no handset in second bedroom, hot tub time restrictions. Just feel owner needs to back off a bit about charges, it works both way after all as it is a holiday cottage, just made us feel slightly uncomfortable. It was a great place to stay, fantastic views in back garden, plenty to do in surrounding area.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your valuable feedback. We are glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay. We are so sorry to hear of the issues you encountered during your stay. Had we been made aware of these issues at the time of your booking, we would have looked to rectify these for you. We do hope to see you again in future. Property Owner

  • "The cottage is lovely."

It is well equipped, clean and tidy and in an excellent location for exploring the local area. All rooms are of a good size and the cottage is clearly well cared for by the owners, who were friendly and approachable. There have been a couple of comments about the comfort of the sofas - we found them to be fine. The garden is spectacular, peaceful and with stunning views. We were lucky with the weather and really enjoying sitting outside in such a fab space. Beds were comfortable, showers were hot and had great water pressure, kitchen was really well equipped with plenty of items that matched. Sykes cottages did not always respond to emails and the website is clunky, so there is work to do there, but in terms of the cottage and the holiday we had there, we were very happy.

Only suggestion would be for additional instructions for operating hot tub eg maintaining temperature. Having said that would still recommend for a relaxing dog friendly stay.

  • "We absolutely loved this spacious and beautiful cottage."

It was a real home from home with everything that we needed to make our stay a happy one. The little touches to make it more welcoming and were really appreciated. The home made apple pies were delicious and the gratis, teas, coffees and mini milks were also great. The puppy really enjoyed his treats too :o) The garden is beautifully kept and the views stunning - we did a lot of meditating in the mornings and it was the perfect place to do it. Really comfy beds. The sofas in the living room are hard as rock so we spent most of our stay in the conservatory which is a real gem especially when it rained as it meant we still felt close to the garden. The Wifi worked well and there is Netflix on the TV. A few pointers (nothing to put you off; just so you are aware) - The hot tub isn't quite the experience we had hoped for (we couldn't manage to get the temperature up as it wasn't switched on properly, and it was uncomfortable to sit in once we got it going) - however, the owner did come as soon as we asked for help and sorted the temp for us quickly. A few Tupper containers would be helpful for picnics on walks and more ice trays would have been appreciated. The village is really lovely, and there are loads of walks from the village, so you don't have to drive anywhere to enjoy the scenery. We did go to High force, which is really worth a short drive (25 minutes). The Black Horse Pub (5 minutes walk) do really nice meals and is run by good, friendly people. The nearest shop, that we found, is in the next village and is ok for essentials but isn't cheap, So we would advise taking your essentials with you. We loved our stay and we cannot recommend it enough - thank you Juliet

  • "Great house with lovely rooms and garden."

Would just mention to double check the location of this cottage if you're looking to be close to the Yorkshire Dales - this is not the correct Ingleton! However, we still enjoyed our holiday as there is still plenty to do in and around this smaller, more remote Ingleton. The hosts were lovely and ensured we could use the hot tub during our stay. There were plenty of towels to use and the showers worked very well. The views are stunning from the back garden! The hosts even left some lovely apple pies for us when we arrived! Just a few notes for the owners really - would be good to have some scales in the kitchen as we bought ingredients to do some baking and were unable to measure them. The farthest hob switch also does not work and if used, will actually trip the wiring in the whole house, needing it to be reset at the box. This needs to be fixed. None of the doors locked which wasn't ideal for us - especially on the toilets. There were flies everywhere when we arrived and they stayed throughout the trip, which wasn't pleasant. However, I'm sure some sticky fly paper or an electric fly zapper would solve this. There was also a chocolate bar wrapper on the floor of the bunk bed room when we arrived. The bin outside was full to the brim when we arrived. We had nowhere to put our rubbish. The internet was also very patchy. Most of the time it didn't work at all and we had to use our 4G. When it did work, it was only in one small corner of the kitchen. This wasn't ideal for work zoom calls and keeping in touch with our families. Lastly, we had until 10:30am to leave the property and at around 10:15am people came in to clean. They were lovely but would've been nice if we had the chance to do a last check round the property to check if we forgot anything. Would still recommend this cottage to people looking for a dog-friendly, remote holiday to spend up north. The pub down the road is amazing. Would recommend the High Force / Low Force waterfall walk and Raby Castle. Thank you for our stay.

  • "On day 3 of the holiday, builders installed a new flat roof, this work took 1 1/2 days to complete."

As luck had it, we went out most days. We found the lounge settee very hard and uncomfortable. The above did not spoil our holiday, as the location, decor and facilities were excellent.

This cosy cottage offers a warm welcome to its guests, accommodating nicely for a small family or group of friends looking to explore the countryside! The cottage is set over two floors with three delightful bedrooms and a family bathroom on the first floor and an extra shower room on the ground floor.

The sitting room has been designed with a large, fitted TV within the fireplace and comfortable seating, while the conservatory offers a pleasant spot to catch up on a good book or enjoy the garden scenery.

Step into the well-appointed kitchen to find a range of appliances ready for use, continuing through to the dining room where all can gather during mealtimes. With lawned gardens to both the front and rear, there is plenty of space to sit outside, and the addition of an inflatable hot tub as an extra touch of relaxation. Located centrally between Darlington and Barnard Castle, Ivy Cottage is an ideal base, offering visitors close access to the popular wedding venues of Headlam Hall, The George Hotel, Piercebridge and Walworth Castle, as well as the opportunity to explore the many and varied faces of Teesdale, County Durham and North Yorkshire; offering outstanding countryside views, walks, historic towns and villages.

Both Durham and North Yorkshire are steeped in culture, history and industrial heritage.

The university city of Durham is home to its 12th century cathedral, castle and spectacular location on the banks of the River Wear, further complimented by cobbled streets, market boutiques, restaurants, theatre and galleries.

For history lovers among you, visit the 14th century Raby Castle in Staindrop, set in a scenic deer park, or the Piercebridge Roman Fort, with Stanwick Iron Age Fortifications only a few miles away.

Explore more culture in the historic market town of Barnard Castle, home of the famous Bowe Museum and High Force Waterfall or why not visit some of your high street favourites in the thriving town of Darlington.

Darlington is the home of the steam engine which can be explored both here and in the Shildon Railway Museum.

The famous Beamish Open Air Museum and Kilhope Lead Mining Museums are both easily accessible.

There’s plenty of outdoor activities that can be enjoyed in and around Ingleton, such as Hamsterly Forest as well as great walking and cycling adventures in Teesdale and Swaledale.

For something a little bit different, why not visit during the Kynren Festival in Bishop Aukland – a spectacular live action outdoor theatre show!
