  • "Park House cottage was welcoming and relaxing with amazing views."

It is in a great location with lovely places to visit nearby. A local supermarket was only 6 minutes drive away. The hosts were friendly and welcoming and we enjoyed chats. We was even lucky to be greeted by a few of the horses which was lovely. Our dog was mesmerized by the sheep passing the patio doors. We enjoyed wonderful visits to high and low force waterfalls, Barnard castle, Richmond and Easby Abbey, Tan Hill Inn ( the highest pub in England ), a lovely meal at the Red Well Inn and on our last day- a visit to Summerhill force and Gibson's cave. Thankyou for a wonderful stay, we all had a great time including the noises from the sheep.

This cottage was warm, spacious and had everything that could possibly be needed. Dog friendly, so relaxed and informal and very comfortable - both physically and mentally. It is in a great location and situated on a working farm where it was really interesting to see all the different rare breed animals and to talk to the owners about the ups and downs of the farming world. They made us very welcome and we are grateful to them for allowing visitors like us to stay.

  • "Upon arrival at the cottage the front door handle fell off in our hands - which was an indicator for the rest of the cottage."

Not worthy of the 'three ticks' and definitely not work the £800+ paid for the week we had booked for. The cottage was filthy upon arrival, and we spent the first hour or so cleaning it ourselves especially as it appeared that the kitchen worktop, hob and microwave had been cleaned with the same cloth used on the floor - everything was covered in a layer of grime and dog hairs. All glassware, crockery and cutlery had to be put in the dishwasher before use as there were food remnants left on them. The oven doesn't reach temperature so we wasted food as a result. No bread bin to hide food from all the flies. Fly papers were suspended from the kitchen ceiling NB these need to be changed between guests as they were absolutely disgusting! Blinds in the bedrooms were broken, the window was broken in the twin bedroom (which we were warned about by Sykes approx 10 mins before our arrival), door handles were falling off - which we also fixed, no wheelie bin for rubbish near the cottage. The decor - the finish is so bad it's difficult to understand how this has been signed off by Sykes as suitable. In short we feel robbed and would like an explanation from Sykes as to how they see that this cottage is worth the £852 weekly fee - a more realistic price would be around £500 per week if some of the basic issues around cleanliness and maintenance were addressed! I have a list of issues if you're interested in seeing them Sykes?

comfortable, and so very quiet, The property is set on the owners working farm, so access to the cottage is up a short gated track from the road.(no issue with pot holes). The views from the cottage are amazing, plenty of parking space and enclosed area if like us you have a dog. Would definitely recommend, especially if your looking for a quiet retreat, amazing views yet only 10 minutes drive to Barnard Castle.

  • "The listing pictures for this cottage are from years ago and does not reflect what the interior and exterior look like now."

The sofas are worn out and have throws on them, which appear to need laundering! There was no towels left out, the ones we found were thrown in a wardrobe that looked like ‘dog towels’. We had to dry some that was left in the washing machine! A new toilet brush wouldn’t go amiss either. The bed linen looks grubby as though it had been washed with something muddy. After saying all this, the cottage is lovely and spacious, beds are very comfortable the kitchen is well equipped, just needs a bit of ‘tlc’.

Hi We have just bought a new sofas while you was there plus bedding and towels so everything looks alot better now . Thankyou Property Owner

The hosts are very welcoming and the welcome package was amazing with some of their own produce. The beds are comfy and worked well for our family of four (plus dog). The only feedback I have is that the WiFi only works in the kitchen as it tags on to the box in the main house next door. Also, no one had hoovered under the coffee table in the lounge before our visit and the toilet hadn’t been wiped clean at the back of the seat. If it hadn’t been for these couple of things I would give it a 100% score.

Comfortable bedrooms both light and bright although the bottom sheet on the double bed was fairly worn. Beautiful far reaching views from the lounge which was fairly basic and both sofas most definitely need replacing. That said this is a new venture for the hosts who are lovely people and we would recommend the property if you're looking for a chilled out break away from the hustle and bustle of a busy lifestyle.
