  • "We had a lovely break at the cottage."

The owners were super helpful and friendly providing us with anything that we needed. We particularly loved the kitchen, all the other rooms were lovely clean and comfortable too. We were close to Barnard Castle which was a cute little town perfect for mooching around. Their are some lovely walks nearby and the beautiful city of Durham is only a 30 min car ride away.

  • "Lovely cottage in a rural location, not far from plenty of places to visit."

Cottage would benefit from curtains in the bedrooms and possibly dvds for entertainment. Otherwise nice cottage and the owners made us feel very welcome and even went the extra mile for our son for his birthday.

  • "This was a bit of a last minute holiday so there weren't as many cottages to choose from."

South Cottage at Staindrop was available and it proved to be excellent choice. The cottage was ideally suited for the places we wanted to visit and the cottage itself had everything we needed including a very good welcome pack. The owners on site were very helpful and friendly and this is certainly a cottage we would like to go back to..

  • "We found the cottage, its owners and the surrounding area all exceeded our expectations."

Teesdale was so beautiful, full of wildlife and interesting things to do. We followed the rivers and saw Dippers feeding, Lapwings and even Golden Plover on the moors, all kinds of wildlife stoats, rabbits etc.; what a wonderful area. Richmondshire was a revelation, and a day in Arkengarthdale was beyond belief; we had never heard of either place before. Our visit to the Bowes Museum was so interesting we went back for a second day - the tickets once purchased cover a full year. The Bowes restaurant fare is also to be recommended. The best meal however was taken at the Bowlee Visitor Centre. Afterwards a walk along the river, through the banks of bluebells, up to the waterfalls is a once in a lifetime event. There were Dippers families feeding their young, pure magic.

About the location

STAINDROP

Barnard Castle 5 miles; Durham 20 miles.

The pretty Teesdale village of Staindrop has always been closely associated with the fortunes of nearby Raby Castle and its owners. The Castle (open to the public) is one of the most grand in England. Enlarged and beautified over the centuries, the medieval heart remains and a walled garden and 200 acre deer park add to the splendour. Staindrop has many interesting shops, pubs and cafes set round its long village green. The popular market town of Barnard Castle is 5 miles away, with its castle, the Bowes Museum, plus of course its wide range of shops and tea rooms. Walkers will enjoy the many walks around Teesdale.
