  • "The property was wonderful- very comfortable, clean and well-equipped."

We really liked the site, and the fairy lights were a lovely touch, as well as the seclusion of the hot tubs.

  • "The place was spotlessly clean and comfortable, with the exception of the sofa bed, half of which was unfortunately unusable, meaning one person had to sleep on the sofa."

The kitchen and bathroom are in need of a refresh but this didn’t affect our stay. The outside space was fantastic with lots of outdoor games provided and the hot tub was cleaned every morning. Would recommend, and we’ll likely go back.

Really sorry you found the kitchen and family bathroom tired and in need of some much need TLC we have had Howdens out so it will be getting some much needed modernisation in the near future the park has had some much needed improvements and Im sure if you came back you see a big change for the better thank you for taking the time to give feed back positive or not so is important and all taken on board Property Owner

  • "Somerset lodge was in a lovely setting in a lovely part of Yorkshire."

The accommodation itself was well equipped and spacious. The hot tub was maintained each morning. It was nice to meet others on the site who also had friendly dogs with them. The only downside was that the condition of the decking was rather tired and needs upgraded. Some of the cupboard doors have seen better days with noticeable deterioration with wood rotting away on the edges, particularly in the bathrooms. It wasn’t nice to find a piece of carrot in the cutlery drawer and in the salad section of the fridge on arrival. More attention please to the cleaning process prior to guests arriving. Finally it was slightly off putting on the morning of departure to have the cleaner sitting outside in their car, engine running, a good 15 minutes before 10am, waiting for us to leave the lodge (which we did on time). All in all, apart from the mentioned indiscretions, we had a good relaxing break in Somerset lodge which was a good base to visit surrounding villages in lovely Yorkshire.

  • "Very clean and well equipped cabin with plenty of space between it and the other cabins which made a pleasant change from other sites."

The site manager Paul was very friendly and helpful, nothing being too much trouble. The only issue we had was lack of TV channels, although we appreciate it was due to a mast issue affecting the whole of the county it might be a good idea if sky TV was available (we would have been prepared to pay extra for this). However I expect we are in the minority of people going on holiday and wanting to watch TV every evening! But I still rate overall 10/10

  • "We had a message the day before from the owner to say check in was not till 4."

30pm but on all the paperwork from your self’s it said 3pm. This was not a big problem but I think there you both need to be putting the same time as if people are booking transportation they could be very upset if the had to hang around.

  • "The lodge was great."

Staff were really helpful and polite, special mention to the member of staff with sandles, top geezer. However the owner was very rude, very miserable, very lucky he has such a good team behind him, if not for everyone else I doubt Kiplin lodge park would have many returning guests. Would recommend and stay again as long as the owner sorts his attitude out.

  • "If you're planning a holiday in one of these lodges whatever you do don't look at trip advisor pre-2019 as it has significantly improved since then!"

We were very pleasantly surprised to find the whole lodge had been refurbished/recarpeted since the photos had been taken on the website and was in excellent condition. The hot tub was spotless and ready to use from the minute we arrived until we left a week later. Facilities are excellent and the only reason I didn't give full marks is because of the lack of WiFi :/. However this is a place to get away from it all as it's right in the middle if beautiful country side with the nearest shops being 7-8 miles away (something to bear in mind). I would highly recommend it as a holiday destination for families as it is not far from many tourist attractions. A fantastic place to stay in my opinion

Relaxed atmosphere, the cabin was far better than we anticipated, the site was very quiet and the cabins are really well spaced out. Mick, the grounds man / odd job man was more than helpful, coming to introduce himself and check everything was ok, nothing too much trouble for him. Will definitely be visiting again

While we were staying there we noticed the shower was leaking and we thought the price we paid was too much for what we got. It was very peaceful which is what we like but it does need some work doing on it all in all we enjoyed our stay.

  • "First let me say that everything that is said about George and Yvonne in prevous reviews is very true."

Helpful, polite, considerate and willing to put right anything found wrong. We did not arrive at Somerset Lodge unil 9 o'clock on the Friday night and unfortunately first impressions were not good. We stay in similiar lodges all over the UK seven or eight times a year and have done so for many years, however, the exterior condition of this lodge did not bode well. On entering we were confronted imediately with the smell of dogs (and found out by reading the Visitors Book, that two dogs had been in there previous to us). We always book lodges with hot tubes, therefore, we were despirately disappointed to find our hot tub full of dirty cloudy water. It was obvious it had not been changed since the previous occupants had vacated. In fairrness, when I mentioned it to George the following morning he came immediately and drained it, However, once drained it showed all the gunge, hair and rubbish (hairclips, sequins, stones and blocked bottom filters and jets) so my partner and I spent Saturday morning degunging it and giving it a good clean. Not something we expected to do. The top water filter did not work, so the top of the water always had a film on it. After another dreadful night on the lumpy double mattress, we decided to go and buy a mattress topper. When I told George what we intended, he did offer to pay for it, but as I needed one at home I told him I would be taking it with me at the end of the holiday. These lodges are advertised as Eco Lodges, however, there are no facilities to separate and recycle rubbish. It all goes into one rubbish bag and that is put onto a trailer near the entrance. Eco Lodges? I don't think so. I feel guilty in writing such a negative review but believe that people should be aware of what they are getting when paying out several hundreds of pounds of what could be their only annual holiday. However, as said above, George and Yvonne were a very nice couple. Would I return? I don't think so.

About the location

Scorton 2.25 miles; Richmond 8 miles; Northallerton 8 miles.

Kiplin is a small hamlet in North Yorkshire, just 2.25 miles from Scorton where you can find a convenience store and pubs and 8 miles from Richmond where cobbled streets and narrow alleys or 'wynds' enshrine over nine centuries of busy history and unique character. Within the town, narrow streets and alleys radiate from the cobbled Market Place (which has a weekly market and monthly farmers’ market) and there are numerous shops, pubs and restaurants to enjoy. West of Richmond is All Creatures Great and Small Country, plus the county town of Northallerton is also close by and boasts market days on Wednesdays and Saturdays, when both sides of the High Street are home to stalls selling a wide range of goods and produce, and on the fourth Wednesday of the month the market is joined by a farmers' market. This is a wonderful holiday area, with so much to see and do.
