But be aware no TV in the cottage, but with smart phones not an issue to me. This is my second visit and will be third visit next year

A great place to unwind. Maintenance of the property could be better e.g. there is some dampness which needs attention & generally some tlc however it was clean and everything needed is provided. The fact that the housekeeper checks to make sure all is well is a lovely touch & very welcome.

  • "Aros cottage was well equipped, and provided us with the peace and quiet we wanted."

It's location was wonderful. However, the cottage does need some decorating and TLC. The cottage could do with a thorough clean up. I am a professional cleaner and these standards would not pass. However, apart from the negative comments. We did have a relaxing break.

  • "We have very mixed feelings about Aros."

We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday in a magnificent, peaceful location surrounded by sheep, rabbits, lapwings, birds galore and wonderful flora. Walks abound in the area, straight from the door plus a very welcoming inn, The C B 5 minutes walk away serving superb food. We appreciate the cottage was built some years ago and requires a lot of maintenance but it could do with some tlc eg new bathroom with extractor fan as it is damp, decorating throughout as wallpaper is peeling. I am always suspicious of cottages that contain air fresheners…….why does it need one? Possibly to conceal the damp smell or visiting dogs? We knew before booking that dogs were allowed but their presence was obvious by the fur on floors and kitchen cupboard doors. I tried to clean this up but unfortunately the Vax cleaner was useless. Sadly we did not find the sofa comfortable and the armchairs were too low. The kitchen appears to be fairly new and is extremely well equipped. There is an impressive selection of maps, books, games and jigsaws to while away any spare time if needed and the WiFi was welcomed for accessing weather forecasts in the absence of a tv. We did not miss the tv at all.

Fabulous setting. Was just what we wanted. Loved that there wasn't a tv. WiFi was excellent. Local pubs were easy to walk to and very welcoming. Super dog walks off the doorstep. We really unwound.

  • "This is constructive feedback only for the property owner: It doesn't work to have a thermostat above a storage heater!"

We had to turn the thermostat up to about 25 degrees to make the central heating come on It would be a good idea to have an extractor fan in the bathroom as it's getting damp in there It would have been useful to know that there is no signal to be able to phone or text Please leave guidance about the bins, as to when you put them out! I have just had a farcical dance with them this morning, not realising that your green and black bins are both collected weekly, and Sue didn't make it very clear, so I am afraid I didn't get the recycling out and only just made the black bin emptying Feedback that can be published: We had a comfy week in possibly the most peaceful place we have ever stayed. We loved the open fire and got used to there being no TV quickly, enjoying the quiet. There were plentiful puzzles, games and books to amuse. It was very handy to have the CB Inn a 5 minute stroll down the road and they were welcoming to dogs in the bar area. We enjoyed just a drink and also a roast dinner. Reeth is a nice little town with dog friendly pubs. Richmond or Barnard Castle seem to be the nearest places to fill up with petrol, so beware of getting too low on fuel!

It was also very dog friendly. Access to WiFi was good and it helped us plan each days outing and there are so many places to visit in this beautiful area. Sue the housekeeper was very friendly and helpful. We were very lucky with the weather and maybe would have liked an upgrade on the garden furniture as we spent quite a bit of time in the little front garden. It was a lovely relaxing week.

It has obviously had a new kitchen at some point which was fairly well equipped. We wouldn't return to the cottage in its present state.

word count. There was no word count stated (and still isn't). It was a holiday we'd enjoyed despite multiple defects with the cottage. I wasn't told why it wasn't published until I complained, or given the opportunity to edit it. While there was nothing to complain about at Aros, I suspect that you exclude very negative reviews. I won't waste my time with feedback filtered by Sykes.

The views are amazing and the walks around are just what we came for, so relaxing. What can I say Aros cottage is cosy, warm, comfortable cottage, quiet surrounded by the most beautiful countryside. The 2019 floods have caused some damage and the red lion pub is now closed which was a shame. However my family had a relaxing time in Aros cottage. Thank you again

However, when we arrived we found that the kitchen waste bin had not been emptied and there was mould on the contents. The dishwasher had also not been emptied and, again, there was mould. In general, we had the impression that the cottage had not been cleaned thoroughly.

This is isolated enough to be "far from the madding crowd", yet with one or two kindly neighbours (especially the housekeeper), and a pub-with-meals half a mile down the road (albeit a bit pricey), it's also very secure. No TV, wifi or mobile signal (suits us but would suit everyone). An ideal, comfortable base for us to enjoy the Swaledale Festival.
