  • "Well presented, warm, comfortable property in a quiet location."

The property is well equipped and close to local amenities with some good walks nearby, particularly along the beach to crimson dene which has a lovely cafe. My only criticism would be that although we slept well the mattresses could do with upgrading.

  • "Really enjoyed how cosy and comfy overall the property was."

The view was wonderful. I did find the single bed to be - little uncomfortable - I found it squeaked quite easily with small movements and felt I could feel the springs in the mattress when I laid down. We found the parking was fine - always able to find a space. Loved the location - perfect for what we needed.

  • "The property is in a great location, right on the seafront with sea views from both upstairs and downstairs from windows."

It was extremely cold weather when we stayed but the house is very cosy, especially with the log stove lit in the front room. The stairs are steep but this is made clear in the property description. It is generally clean and tidy and well equipped, although there are a few minor maintenance issues that don't detract from an enjoyable stay.

  • "Good well equipped property in excellent location."

Stairs are steep (as warned) but bannisters provide good support. Lovely beaches within a stones throw and coastal path nearby. We had a couple of bad weather days due to storms when we were happy to hunker down. The house was warm and comfortable with lots of interesting books etc to keep us entertained. Used the no7 bus to visit the Naval Museum and the Museum of Hartlepool. Recommend the Heugh Battery just down the road and an easy walk from Twitcher's Rest. 9

Hi Jill, Thank you for your feedback, my apologies for the delay responding. I'm very pleased you enjoyed your stay. The stairs are steep but really would be difficult to change them in a small property so we notify on the website and hopefully the signs around the stairs aren't intrusive. The weather can be challenging at the seaside in the winter but it's still a great area to explore if you are wrapped up and a running sea brings out all the sea anglers along the promenade so there's generally things going on even then. I hope we have you as guests again! Regards David Property Owner

  • "We have had a lovely holiday at Twitchers Cottage."

The cottage is situated in a wonderful place with amazing sounds & views of the sea. The only thing that we found was we couldn't open the windows in the front bedroom or lounge to let some fresh air in. They were locked & and there were no keys to be found anywhere, also the vertical blind had a slat missing in the lounge. The cottage could have been cleaner / tidier in places. The bathroom door is grubby on the inside & the kitchen cupboard / drawers would benefit from sorting out. Lots of things abandoned in them! The kitchen outside door shuts but leaves a gap to the outside & the door into the kitchen from the lounge doesn't shut as not fitted properly. Plus the back bedroom door doesn't shut properly either. I mention these things as the owner may not be aware. We enjoyed our stay & would return to this peaceful cosy cottage.

Thank you for your comments. Unfortunately the sea spray and sand does create corrosion in the window mechanisms and it is a constant battle to keep the hinges loose and efficiently working. It is likely that that all the windows and front door will be replaced at the front of the house in the Spring, we are currently waiting for a couple of quotes. One of the windows does work but is a little stiff. Ditto the rear door. Cleanliness will be addressed with the cleaner Property Owner

  • "We really enjoyed our week at Twitcher's Rest."

The single bed in the second bedroom could have been more comfortable, the mobile phone signal was intermittent, the WiFi was spectacularly unreliable and the Virgin Media TV/black box system thing was rather baffling without instructions, but those negatives were more than offset by the sea view from the master bedroom, the sunny enclosed courtyard garden and the very practical kitchen. Oh, and going to bed and waking up to the sound of waves gently breaking on the spectacular sandy beach, with the occasional screech of a gull to make it feel proper sea-sidy. Would we stay at Twitcher's Rest again? Definitely!

Hi Chris, the mobile signal is normally Ok but I will look into it and see if anything can be done. The wifi is checked every time there is a changeover and nothing had been noticed but again I will have a look, on the odd occasion I've had a fail a reset at the mains has sorted it. But thanks for the generally positive feedback, and you are wvery welcome to come again. David Property Owner

The coastal location is lovely. You have a fabulous view overlooking the sea from the living room and main bedroom. We left the windows open to enjoy the relaxing sound of the waves. The house is extremely well kitted out with all the crockery, cutlery and pans you could possibly need. There are also books and board games. The owner left a lovely welcome gift of wine and chocolates which was very much appreciated. Although there is not allocated parking, we were able to park directly outside the house every day (even though the town carnival was on at the time). There is a lovely promenade along the sea shore which can be accessed directly outside the property. We enjoyed following the 'monkey sign' trail to learn more about Hartlepool. We would also recommend the Royal Navy National Museum for a local day out. Be sure to visit 'The Copper Kettle' for an amazing breakfast/lunch. Twitchers Rest was a good base for travelling to Durham, Newcastle and Whitby, which all have English Heritage properties to visit.
