  • "I have stopped in many cottages all over the country as well as the the Yorkshire Dales."

Our stay here was as good as the best ones ones I have stayed at. When you leave feedback it is alway important to be honest & my honest review was I loved the cottage, the area & the comfort. It took a little bit to get warm & only thing I would have loved is a log or coal fire but this was not a deal breaker. We will 100% be back & the robin on the bench every morning at breakfast made me smile.

Thank you for your complimentary review. I too would love to add a fire, or rather wood burner, but sadly planning restrictions were extremely limiting when the barn was converted, & certainly at the time, a chimney was unacceptable. Property Owner

) and cannot fault the property at all. Has everything you would need for your stay including a little drying cupboard in the downstairs toilet if you need to wash a few items. We had muddy jeans from rain so washed and popped in to dry over several nights (cheaper electric). Bring your own washing powder/liquid as everyone uses different eg non bio/bio so quite rightly not provided. The place is so clean considering it is an old transformed Bothy so spiders are expected yet no cobwebs. Properly cleaned

  • "Lovely barn in a great location."

Welcome of Wine, Cheese and Biscuits were a very kind gesture. Very hot weekend resulted in a lot of people walking through the garden, sadly dogs were off leads and were running in and out the Bothy and messing in the garden. We had our 3 year old granddaughter visit us one day so the situation was not good. We asked 2 people to put their dogs on lead or under control and were given a lot of abuse. If the owner is interested we have photos and videos to show how bad the situation was.

The only quibble we would have are re the property itself. We would prefer a dishwasher instead of a washing machine. Also, while cooking, the corner unit in the kitchen is situated to make banging ones head, near impossible. The Bothy has bags of character with a spiral ladder and fairly spacious layout - so these comments should be seen in this context - we would recommend the proprrty as somthing both different and comfortable.

Lovely and clean like staying in a 5 star hotel. The owner goes to a lot of trouble to make you feel welcome with fresh flowers, a lovely bottle of red wine and cheese. Had an amazing time would we go bad! No only because we rarely go to the same place twice. x

Mrs Biker, the owner provided a nice welcome with some ‘treats’. The property has everything one needs from holiday accommodation. The weather was cold when we stayed but each room has very efficient wall heaters so we we’re comfortably warm. The property is on the top of a hill overlooking the River Ure at the end of a private lane. There are super walks each side of the property along the river. The orchard is great for the dog to run around in and there are fabulous views across the river from the front garden. We’ll be back!

It’s lovely, very in keeping with the surroundings. If you like walking, fresh air, and wildlife I strongly recommend The Bothy. Ruth had left us fresh flowers around the cottage, and all the small essentials needed, eg salt pepper, tin foil etc. also lots of games and a few DVDs for the rainy days ( but we didn’t we’d them. Beautiful walks round about , and we took advantage of the local pubs along the walks. A truly brilliant holiday x ( not for young children though.)

It is so comfortable and has everything you could wish for, the only thing missing is a private, fenced/walled off area, to sit outside which would be very beneficial in the spring/summer months, especially with walkers and dogs walking across the garden. Stunning walks from the doorstep and the scenery is magical and the abundance of wildlife is great. A lovely way to laze away a week. We look forward to our next stay.

  • "The only downside of the holiday was that the rear garden is not at all private as it has a Public Footpath right through it leading to the river , which proved extremely busy during our stay."

This could be made clearer in the listing as it means there is nowhere safe and secure for a dog , ours needed to be kept on a lead at all times in the garden which was a shame. The cottage itself was beautiful and very clean and comfortable, the WiFi was a bit unreliable ,but overall a great stay .

Really well equipped, with everything you could want and more. Spiral staircase could be a problem for anyone with mobility problems but we slept downstairs which was ideal and just used the stairs to get to the shower room. Such a shame the lounge couldnt have had another window or door with such wonderful views but obviously that is part of the structure. We pre booked a table at the Bolton Arms only a 10 minute walk from the Bothy. but very disappointed. Cant rate the service as there was none and we walked away after 40minutes sitting waiting for a drink and the menus. Had a lovely meal at the Three Horseshoes at Wensley but unfortunately had to drive there. Lots of lovely walks from the Bothy didnt use the car for three days Would thoroughly recommend this for a get away from it all cottage

Perfect location and perfect property. The photos don’t do it justice. The views are spectacular, even when it rains you see the mist coming down on the hills. There are rabbits in the garden and orchard and the odd pheasant strolls by. The property is super cosy with wall heaters in each room that are simple to use. There is constant hot water when required. There are 5 doors in total to get outside so you are spoilt for choice! There is a wooden storage box in the hall that has dog blankets and pet bowls (we didn’t bring a dog), two fold up chairs to sit in the garden - these are super comfortable! The owner has thought of everything and The Bothy is a real home from home. There are even photos of the property on the walls showing the various stages of turning it into the beauty that stands there today. We could rave about this property all day!

  • "The Bothy was a lovely property, very comfortable and well kept."

It was at the end of a very quiet lane and so very peaceful. The owner was very helpful especially as we arrived in the dark and initially couldn't find the property (we were only 20 metres away but couldn't see it in the pitch black and hidden behind the trees). The scenery was beautiful and there are acouple of nice walks straight out of the back door. The village pub was very friendly and the food was good. Lovely places to visit, Leyburn and Hawes in particular and the drive down through Wharfedale to Grassington was spectacular and Grassington well worth a visit. For anyone who wants a peaceful holiday, it's ideal. The only drawback was as that the public footpath goes through the back garden (and it's not fully enclosed) so we had to accompany our dog outside when she needed to go out and she would wake us up early barking at other walkers using the path first thing - no lie-ins for us

  • "The location was superb and we particularly enjoyed the lack of telephone access."

The DVD player wasn't good and it packed up in the middle of a film but we didn't really need it, as it was great to be able to sit and read. Shower leaked but this was towards the end of the season and it probably needs some routine maintenance. However, we noticed that others had mentioned this in the visitors' book earlier in the year. Due to the leak being above the switch box and lighting switches, this may constitute a fire hazard. On two occasions the mains circuit tripped and had to be re-set. We couldn't understand why some people made negative comments in the visitors book, as we were comfortable and enjoyed the house and the location. We would like to stay there again, though hopefully the above electrical problem will have been addressed . We did agree that a folder with all the information about the property and labelled keys would have helped on arrival, but we soon found out most of what we needed.

About the location

REDMIRE

Aysgarth 3 miles; Leyburn 4 miles.

The idyllic Wensleydale village of Redmire is situated in a walker’s paradise close to Castle Bolton, Leyburn and the famous Aysgarth Falls. Redmire is on the Wensleydale Railway, which features steam locomotives during the summer, and has regular special events. Castle Bolton, a mile away, is one of the finest preserved medieval castles in Yorkshire, and dates back to 1378. Much of the castle, with its mighty towers and rectangular courtyard, survived the orders to destroy famous Yorkshire castles issued by Parliament in the Civil War. Nearby Carperby was an important centre for Quakerism and the largest building today is the classically styled Friends Meeting House, which overlooks the market cross and village green. Redmire's village pub serves good food, and there is an excellent range of amenities in the nearby market town of Leyburn. What's more, Swaledale and Arkengarthdale are both easily accessible from Redmire.
