It's very well equipped, decorated and styled tastefully to the period of the cottage. Claire, the owner was helpful, friendly and informative. The location made an ideal centre for us as we combined a theatre visit to Scarborough with a trip to South Shields to cheer on our daughter and son-in-law in the Great North Run. Then had a relaxing rest of the week visiting nearby Barnard Castle (Barney to the locals) with it's interesting range of independent shops and the amazing Bowes Museum, along with walks along Teesdale. Finished off with a visit to Thirsk and the James Herriot Experience. It made for a lot of miles but the central location was excellent. The Rose & Crown pub/hotel which is only 100 yards away from the cottage served good food but it's a bit pretentious for it's location. We preferred the Crown in nearby Mickleton. We would definitely recommend this cottage!

The property

A delightful, traditional, stone cottage with lots of character and views across the green, dating back to the 1700's or earlier, located in the beautiful village of Romaldkirk, a few miles from the historic market town of Barnard Castle.

Close to the Pennine Way and nestled amongst meadows and moorland, Romaldkirk is the perfect base for getting to know Teesdale and it's surrounds, which are rich in wildlife and history.

Tastefully furnished and decorated throughout, this charming cottage with beautiful exposed beams, latch doors and the original stone staircase, is perfect for family or friends wishing to explore the local area with it's varied choice of walks straight from the front door.

This lovely cottage combines traditional features and modern comforts.

Make the most of a quiet evening in, by the woodburner in the cosy, beamed sitting room, while catching up on the day's events with your loved ones.

The stylish kitchen with granite worktops, boasts a lovely modern finish in contrast to the traditional aspects, yet still retains that quality feel.

You can rustle up a delicious home-cooked meal with all the essential appliances and then do the washing up in the Belfast sink or with the help of the slimline dishwasher.

There is a small kitchen table for four, however, the delightful and more formal dining room with views across the village green, is the ideal place to gather for a meal and take in the pleasant surroundings before making plans for the day ahead.

Climb the stone staircase to the two welcoming bedrooms each with lovely, character features, views and ample storage space.

The spacious family bathroom includes a bath, a luxurious walk-in shower, basin and WC.

In the alcove on the landing, there is a desk nestled by the window, overlooking the garden, which allows you to catch up on some work during your holiday if need be.

The pretty, enclosed garden to the back of the cottage has a lawn and a paved area perfect for sitting out.

In addition to the beautiful, Saxon church of St. Romald's, known locally as the 'Cathedral of the Dales', Romaldkirk also has three village greens, a traditional village pub and an award-winning 18th century coaching inn serving food and local ales.

Barnard Castle is six miles away and has a variety of shops, restaurants and cafes and holds a weekly outdoor market.

With the Bowes Museum, Raby Castle and High Force all close to hand, and set amidst beautiful countryside, Lea Cottage is a wonderful, all year round get-away for couples, families and friends.
