  • "Staindrop is a lovely village."

And our stay at number 45 was perfect. The beds comfortable and the shower hot. The cottage has personality. We really liked the large dining table as it was a January break we played board games and did a jigsaw. The owner stayed in touch. Which was great. We hope to return.

  • "Nice cottage well located fo rvistingattractions ofNorth Yorkshire."

Comfortable and spacious cottage. Parking was a bit of an issue with first come first served basis leading to having to park on the other side of the main road on a couple of occaisions. This could have been highlighted in the property description. The listing indicated a starter provision of logs for the wood burner. This was not provided meaning we couldnt user the log burner on the first night.

Thank you for your feedback. You are absolutely right, the basics for starting the fire should have been handy for you. I wish you’d called me, I could have directed you to the main store. I will make sure that this is corrected. The cottage was built before cars, so there isn’t a car parking space. But lots of space outside (which may be along the road a little on occasion). I will take your feedback on board. Thank you Property Owner

  • "The owner needs a more comprehensive instructions for everything to do with the cottage amenities, ie."

Instructions for cleaning the washer after use, instructions for the dishwasher, instructions for the heating system, instructions for the drier cleaning the floss filter before and after use if the later isn't done the drier will become a fire Hazard!!!. The washer needed a good clean inside and around the inlet and softener tray also the filter on the wash needs checking and cleaning at least once a fortnight! The washer inlet tray was absolutely filthy I cannot only assume that other guests have washed realy muddy clothes and something to do with dog walking, we haven't any pets (Dogs) but wear aware that the cottage is dog friendly, but didndnt realise how dirty the place would be! generaly the whole place needs a deep clean and maintenance carried out on everything, toilet seats loose or nearly falling of Accidents waiting to happen !!! Most things can be fixed within minutes sorry Sykes won't be booking this cottage again.

Hi John Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback. The cottage had a deep clean after you left (as you provided feedback at the time) Cleaning the washing machine drawer and filter and drier filter has been added to the weekly cleaning list. The loose toilet seat was fixed after you reported that too. I will ensure that the heating system instructions are clear. Thank you Kate Property Owner

  • "What a delightful cottage to stay in."

It was very cosy, nicely decorated with lovely homely touches and the enclosed, private garden was magical. The village itself was pretty with lovely architecture and locals were extremely friendly. It was great to be able to walk to the very impressive Raby Castle and the bus stop across from the cottage was very convenient. We had such a relaxing break here, our first time in Durham and would highly recommend a stay here.

  • "As soon as we walked in this cottage we felt at home."

Everything is catered for, the place us full of quirky items, we were there for 4 days and we're still finding them. The beds are mega comfy too. And so chilled and peaceful. We used the cottage as a base to visit hubby's grandchildren, they did come to visit and said the cottage was amazing. The garden is brilliant too, if not a bit untidy, if we had stayed longer I may have been tempted to do some weeding here and there, our two dogs loved searching and sniffing in and around the plants, took some finding at times lol. If I have to find fault the loo really took some flushing in the bathroom, apart from that everything was brilliant. There is a pub a couple of doors down, it too is brilliant , the staff and locals were so friendly and treated us like we were old friend's. Hopefully next year we will be back for maybe a longer stay. The pictures you see are spot on when looking, it's so full of character.

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback. The sunshine and rain made the garden go wild this year. I have since tidied it! We hope to welcome you back soon. Property Owner

  • "Not a great experience, I'm afraid."

The 19 year old gas boiler failed the day after I arrived and needed to be replaced with consequent disruption and a few days without hot water or central heating at a time when it was unusually chilly for the time of year. The instructions in the cottage mention that unless the wood burning stove is lit correctly with paper to warm the chimney first there will be a risk of smoke filling the room - somewhat off putting! Even if the boiler had been replaced on time in a responsible manner I probably would not stay again. The cottage gets noise from the A688 through Staindrop. The small road directly in front of the cottage was often full of cars and so I frequently needed to park on the other side of the village green. In addition, while the village has a pub 3 doors down it does not serve food. In fact there was nowhere to go out for an evening meal or take away and the nearest good places to eat were miles away. Finally, i agree with the previous reviewer about too much light in the bedroom. There is actually a streetlight outside the bedroom window so you need more than a thin cream-coloured fabric blind in that room!!!

The only down fall was it was too light in the bedrooms would be better with some curtains .The water falls was beautiful well worth the visit! It was also great that the cottage has a very high wall round it so your dogs would be safe and the garden is beautiful and relaxing.
