  • "Everything that you needed and more provided."

At peak times main road very busy but quiet at night. Shame no place to eat at night in village but fish and chip van appeared Friday tea time outside the pub. Overall a good base to explore.

  • "Very comfortable stay in a lovely cottage."

Good quality furnishings and very well equipped with everything I could need. The welcome pack of wine, milk, bread, eggs, butter and biscuits was very thoughtful and most welcome.

  • "Enjoyed our stay in this lovely comfortable cottage it had everything we needed including an excellent welcome pack."

Thank you. Staindrop is an interesting well kept village with a historical church & pleasant walks. Enjoyed visits to Raby Castle High Force & Richmond. Bernard Castle was disappointing for meals but can recommend the Italian food in the Black Horse in nearby Ingleton booking needed.

  • "I advise parking your car to L of the church where there are off-road parking spaces."

It is a bit tight in front of the cottage. Otherwise, a lovely cottage, beautiful. Would go again.

  • "Beautiful cottage with some lovely touches."

Excellent selection of books. Generous arrival pack. Staindrop is ideally situated for lovely walks on the Tees, Raby Castle, Roman sites and the Yorkshire Dales. The church across from the cottage is magnificent and very interesting. Only downside is that the one pub serves no foods - but nearby Barnard Castle more than makes up for that. Highly recommended.

  • "This is a really lovely, well appointed house."

Stayed for 2 nights and thoroughly enjoyed. The kitchen has everything and more and I loved using the range. We enjoyed a few glasses of wine on our first night in the quaint back yard. There is so much to do in the area and we made the most of that. The only thing I had an issue with was the church bells ringing during the night. Luckily the clock stopped at 3.20 am and the night after I got a full night’s sleep.

About the location

STAINDROP

Barnard Castle 5 miles; Durham 20 miles.

The pretty Teesdale village of Staindrop has always been closely associated with the fortunes of nearby Raby Castle and its owners. The Castle (open to the public) is one of the most grand in England. Enlarged and beautified over the centuries, the medieval heart remains and a walled garden and 200 acre deer park add to the splendour. Staindrop has many interesting shops, pubs and cafes set round its long village green. The popular market town of Barnard Castle is 5 miles away, with its castle, the Bowes Museum, plus of course its wide range of shops and tea rooms. Walkers will enjoy the many walks around Teesdale.
