  • "A lovely cottage in a nice village in a beautiful area."

Really appreciated the welcome gifts. Excellent selection of books - as mentioned by another reviewer! One thing ... the cottage is less than 100m from the church clock which chimes every 15 mins day and night - so not the ideal cottage for light sleepers!

Glad that you enjoyed the cottage and appreciated the beauty of the area. Do hope you managed to find some of the great places to visit. We do love the fact that we are so close to the historic village church and find the chiming of the bells so charming and quintessentially English! We have never found them to be a problem and missed them when the clock stopped working recently. Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback. Property Owner

We really enjoyed our stay. Great location. Very comfortable, lovely and warm. Decorated, furnished and equipped to a high standard. Lovely village, great, licensed teashop and food and very friendly local pub. Interesting church and local castle. Highly recommend the property.

Thank you for your very kind words and taking the time to leave feedback. We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay and found all the great village amenities. It really is a lovely, historic village. Thanks so much for the recommendation. Property Owner

We had a lovely week at the cottage, it very comfortable and well equipped, the bread, milk etc that was there to start us off was very much appreciated, the cottage is in a good location for exploring and a walk to Raby Castle and deer forest is a must, the area lacks in pub food and take aways but the cottage has everything you need for self catering, would definitely recommend

Thanks so much for taking the time to let us know that you enjoyed your stay. We do so appreciate your kind words and are so pleased that you found some of the wonderful places to visit. We hope we may be able to welcome you back at some future date to explore more of the beautiful countryside. Property Owner

  • "Fantastic cosy cottage with every comfort imaginable."

Much thought has gone into the quality fixtures & furnishings, the kitchen was a pleasure to use and the living room a lovely space to relax. The upstairs bedrooms are perfectly appointed (super comfy double bed) and the bathroom stylish, funky & functional (great pressure from the shower with plenty of hot water). The courtyard offers total privacy, being enclosed and not overlooked, plus it gets the sun morning through to evening. Parking is easy enough, just a couple of minutes walk away in either direction. All in all a perfect cottage in a great location, certainly a place we will rebook….in fact I would live there permanently if possible!

Thank you so much for your very kind feedback, it is so lovely to know that you enjoyed the cottage as much as we do!! We hope that we may welcome you back at some future date to explore more of the wonderful countryside and attractions that are to be found locally. Property Owner

  • "The cottage was very comfortable and well equipped."

The owners left a generous welcome basket, and the area was quiet. Lovely village and church, Raby Castle just over the road. Lots of interesting places to visit, particularly at the Bishop Auckland project and The Bowes Museum.

Thank you for your feedback and kind words, we are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay and found the wonderful places to visit in the area. We hope that we can welcome you back to Clementine Cottage in the future. Property Owner

At peak times main road very busy but quiet at night. Shame no place to eat at night in village but fish and chip van appeared Friday tea time outside the pub. Overall a good base to explore.

Thank you. Staindrop is an interesting well kept village with a historical church & pleasant walks. Enjoyed visits to Raby Castle High Force & Richmond. Bernard Castle was disappointing for meals but can recommend the Italian food in the Black Horse in nearby Ingleton booking needed.

  • "Beautiful cottage with some lovely touches."

Excellent selection of books. Generous arrival pack. Staindrop is ideally situated for lovely walks on the Tees, Raby Castle, Roman sites and the Yorkshire Dales. The church across from the cottage is magnificent and very interesting. Only downside is that the one pub serves no foods - but nearby Barnard Castle more than makes up for that. Highly recommended.

  • "This is a really lovely, well appointed house."

Stayed for 2 nights and thoroughly enjoyed. The kitchen has everything and more and I loved using the range. We enjoyed a few glasses of wine on our first night in the quaint back yard. There is so much to do in the area and we made the most of that. The only thing I had an issue with was the church bells ringing during the night. Luckily the clock stopped at 3.20 am and the night after I got a full night’s sleep.

About the location

STAINDROP

Barnard Castle 5 miles; Durham 20 miles.

The pretty Teesdale village of Staindrop has always been closely associated with the fortunes of nearby Raby Castle and its owners. The Castle (open to the public) is one of the most grand in England. Enlarged and beautified over the centuries, the medieval heart remains and a walled garden and 200 acre deer park add to the splendour. Staindrop has many interesting shops, pubs and cafes set round its long village green. The popular market town of Barnard Castle is 5 miles away, with its castle, the Bowes Museum, plus of course its wide range of shops and tea rooms. Walkers will enjoy the many walks around Teesdale.
