) Would have liked some gifts that other guests had been left :( The hot tub is in a cave making it very cosy and private but a little difficult to get in. The cottage is only small but we knew this before booking and isn’t the smallest place we’ve stayed. The village of Stanhope is small and isolated but there a plenty of shops, pubs and cafes to explore. We had no problems checking in and parking was easy. Overall we loved our stay and would definitely recommend!

Just a very short walk to the village centre, where you can find pubs, shops & a lovely fish & chip shop. Beautiful walks also nearby.

  • "We had a wonderful and much needed break at the lovely wee cosy corner cottage."

We chose it because of the wonderful hot tub cave 3 steps from the front door. It was March so the closer the better! Beautifully and very cleverly decorated, spotlessly clean and totally relaxing. So glad our dog was allowed to come as we couldn't leave him (very well behaved but fear aggressive so kennels were out). Lovely grounds for his morning and evening walk and beautiful surroundings for trips to see the wonderful high waterfall and forests in the area. Look for Che restaurant in the town as the Spanish tapas is home made and delicious and the welcome is like visiting family. Book for a Saturday though as it's becoming known. We fully intend visiting the wonderful castle accommodation again, maybe with some family members (maybe!).

We were offered a second one when we queried it We like having a downstairs toilet though

  • "This holiday cottage far exceeded our expectations."

It had been newly redecorated to a high and very tasteful standard and there was everything we needed and more! We had our own gas boiler and were able to control the temperature to our liking at any time. A small welcome hamper awaited us, which was much appreciated. The cottage was in a quiet location and we were not disturbed at all. The only fault - and it was our own - was that we had only booked it for a three day break; wish we had stayed the whole week. We will certainly return.

It was superb. On arrival there was a welcome hamper including a bottle of prosecco, and our wee dog was pleased to find doggie biscuits and chews and a very comfy doggie bed. The cottage was immaculate with eyepopping decor...we loved it. Within a couple of hundred yards were two pubs, a chippy, and a lovely bakers and teashop ...perfect. I can only rate the accommodation at 10/10....so a huge well done Scott, you've cracked it!

  • "WOW! what a little gem."

We noticed this property was new to the market and had no feedback. We took a gamble and were not disappointed. The property is small but very cosy. All of the mod cons and two large internet tv’s, WiFi and all of the essentials you would need. The owner had even left us a beautiful hamper and a bottle of prosecco. Lovely touch. Just outside of the castles main entrance there is the Durham dales centre which is a small haven of coffee shops and gift shops. Just metres along the road there were three great welcoming puds and a coop, We went to high force waterfall and bowes museum which are both breathtaking. We had a fantastic time and will definitely be back.
