"A beautiful cottage in an amazing place, cottage had everything you would ask for and more, outside space front and back which was great for our dog, kitchen has full size fridge freezer plus dishwasher and washing machine, the whole place was immaculately clean, lots of little extras provided, wine, fruit, chocolate."
Loads of room for 3 and a dog, would comfortably fit 4 people. Can't say anything negative about this cottage, will definitely return.
"Excellent base for all over the area."
Beautiful walks near by would highly recommend we will be back.
"Spotlessly clean cottage in a beautiful location."
Had everything we needed. The owner, Norma, is very friendly and helpful. Lots of lovely walks straight from the doorstep and plenty of places to visit within an hours drive at most. We headed up to Hadrian's Wall, Killhope Lead Mining Museum, Durham, Hamsterley Forest and Gibside. Very pleasant walk into Stanhope along the river. If I have one criticism it is that the listing states off road parking. It is roadside parking, either outside the cottage, in front the garages at the end of the row or further up the lane. We never had a problem getting parked but please be aware off road parking is not available at this property.
"Very last minute."
Booked an hour before we left. Guy on the phone really helpful and owner met us at the property and she was really helpful. There is no wifi so great for a digial detox.
"Lovely holiday in this cozy cottage with amazing views."
Comfortably furnished. Host was very helpful and sent texts with ideas of things to do. It was spotlessly clean and had been fogged, which made us feel much safer during covd-19! Beamish museum and Bernard Castle are lovely places to visit. We aldo did an alpaca experience near Hexham. A few things to mention- we would have liked more kitchen equiptment such as overproof dishes. Also the single bed matresses could do with replacing. Overall though a lovely cottage with good facilities and wonderful views. Would definitely recommend. Hoping to return.
"My son and I had a very enjoyable stay at Footway cottage."
The cottage is immaculately clean and comfortable. The area is also very peaceful and there are plenty of outdoor spaces to explore, including a river path within walking distance of the cottage. Stanhope is also relatively easy to walk to and even quicker by bike. Norma is friendly and helpful. She gave us good advice on things to do in the area, including all the dog friendly places in the vicinity. The highlights of our visit included Hamsterly Forrest for cycling and walking, Barnard Castle for the Bowes Museum, market and surrounding countryside, the Beamish Museum and Derwent Reservoir. The Mega Milkshakes at the Boat Shack alone make the short drive to Derwent Reservoir worth it. Bring your appetite! Durham isn't that far a drive either. If you haven't been before it's well worth a visit.
"Cottages was a place to relax, country side views all around, very comfortable."
And we had Norma looking after us via the occasional text message, location was perfect Barnard Castle market day Wednesday only 20 miles from the cottage, if visiting Barnard Castle we would recommend lunch at the 3 horse shoes, locally the Dale centre Stanhope, Durham only 20 miles. Plan to return next year to the cottage
"Nice secluded place, and was a good base for exploring."
"Even though the weather was quite wet some of the days, the local town of Stanhope was really nice, with coffee shops etc and pubs with nice gardens for meals."
Our cottage owner had mentioned also that through the village there is an open air heated swimming pool - this was really good for our grand-daughter and for me (a non-swimmer) I could sit with a coffee and watch. The staff were very helpful about times and information - certainly worth mentioning in the info regarding local attractions nearby. The walks along the nearby riverbank were very nice, especially when the water was high after some very heavy rain. The cottage itself was very nice and comfortable and I think our grand-daughter would have moved in if she could :-) Many thanks, Ann, Keith and Taylor
"The owner made us feel welcome, and the welcome goodies were a lovely touch."
Only thing is a mirror in the second bedroom would be an advantage.
"My second stay at this lovely cottage it is very clean comfortable and the owner does everything to ensure your stay goes well."

"Nothing that springs to mind."
Everything was as expected. The owner was on hand when we arrived to give us the the information regarding the property and all the helpful local knowledge. Extremely helpful.
"The creaky stairs together with the bedroom footfalls add to the minimalistic nature of the cottage."
The location is ideal for exploring the Durham Dales with pub/eateries close by. Altogether a quaint cottage in a superb location - simply splendid for the simple life.
"Sykes met the expectations for booking, the real credit has to go to the lovely couple who set up such a wonderful little cottage for me and my family."
Thanks a million have a great summer to you both.
"This is a lovely cottage in an ideal position if like me you have dogs and like walking."
Close enough to the village to access the facilities it is far enough away to be peaceful. The facilities in the cottage are good and the views are outstanding. The master bedroom is a great size and the bed is very comfortable. The owners could not have been more friendly and helpful. Walks along the river are lovely and I saw a kingfisher!
"Perfect base for exploring the whole area, owner very helpful and will visit again"
"Lovely cottage in a great area, very comfortable with super bedding and linen."
The owners Norma and David were very welcoming, contacted us to tell us the cottage was ready. After having driven from home in pouring rain we were more than ready for a cup of tea, Norma had filled the kettle and put teabags in mugs ready for us which we very much appreciated. Highly recommend.
"An ideal location for walking and cycling."
Within easy reach of Stanhope,a town that catered for all my needs. I did not need to use my car for the week that I was there. The cottage itself is well presented. The neighbours were nice and so were Norma and Dave the owners.

"This is the second time we have stayed at Footway and it was just as lovely as the first time."
It is very comfortable and well furnished, cosy and in a quiet location, but just a short walk into Stanhope itself. It is also dog friendly which is important to us, and is a good base for visiting the area.
"This was a little gem; the cottage was very comfortable."
The owner left a welcome pack which was very thoughtful, the neighbour is a delightful gentleman and the location is superb. The owner is lovely and very accommodating. We will recommend this to all our friends. The cottage is lovely and the scenery outside was lovely, we watched all sorts of birds including long tail tits, blue tits, red wings etc.
"My husband, our dog and I had a fabulous week at Footway Cottage."
It was like a home from home. It is situated on a quiet road with outlooks to fields with lots of wildlife on show. The Cottage had everything we needed for the week and even accommodated the dog. It was very clean and comfortable. The village is within walking distance with a variety of shops.

The cottage was spotless and had everything we needed. Although in a rural location, the shops were only a short distance away. Their were lovely walks straight from our doorstep.
"This was the nicest cottage that we have stayed in."
Beautiful cottage in an excellent, quiet situation. The welcome pack was exceptional, including a sticker book for our 4-year old grand-daughter. The facilities in the cottage were better than expected and the owner was most helpful at all times and we hope to visit Footway Cottage again next year.
