  • "Our second time staying at Stanhope Castle."

A really beautiful spot, good quality and comfortable accommodation, only snag this time of year is the lack of curtains in the bedrooms which meant early starts for the children and consequently us, would have been a 5 star other than that. The space outside is amazing with young kids and perfect views. We’re looking to book again for next year again. Both Ruth and Scott very helpful throughout our stay.

  • "We have just returned from a fantastic weekend break at knights Corner."

The accommodation is great and the outdoor area is amazing. Fantastic views, loads of space, best hot tub l have been in and the most private. It was surprisingly quiet outside considering the small bustling town with its three pubs were just at the other side of the walls. Only niggle we had was the blinds in the bedrooms were not good enough to stop light in th e morning so we were up very early. On the positive side it meant we were all up and outside sipping coffee, chatting and enjoying the bird songs and views. Another nice touch was the owners contacted us before we went to double check details and make sure we knew how to get there and how to get in etc. On arrival baby cot and high chair and extra baby snuggle blankets were waiting for us. They also had tea, coffee and sugar!! Finally, the chimenea, gas barbecue and hot tub were fantastic and really made it feel luxurious. Perfect accommodation in a great location with great walks. Enjoy!!!!

  • "Had an amazing time at this outstanding property."

Absolutely luxurious accommodation with the added bonus of a huge, private garden that we and especially our dog loved. The property was immaculate with lots of loving attention to detail. We loved the location of the property which is right in the centre of Stanhope town with a short walk to the river and three local pubs but only a fifteen minute drive to some great walks in Hamsterley Forest too which we really enjoyed. Stayed for a week and could have quite easily stayed longer in the lovely peace and quiet. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

  • "Had a wonderful New Year stay."

The apartment met all our requirements and we had everything we needed. The village and surrounding area is peaceful with lovely walks. We dined locally and bought local produce. Evenings were spent relaxing and chilling in the spacious hot tub enjoying the great outdoors under a canopy of lights. The TV worked well and we were able to watch planned programmes. We enjoyed the Cava and chocolates left by our hosts. Nothing to dislike.

  • "Second stay in this lovely apartment, and we still love it."

We had 2 couples and a granny in our party and we had our own rooms, 1 en-suite and 1 shared bathroom, so plenty of room for everyone to get ready and get out without queuing. Kitchen is very well equipped, so you can easily cook and serve your own meals if you don’t want to eat out - although the cafe in the square was lovely. Did I mention the hot tub? What a bonus! In a bespoke wooden gazebo to keep the rain off, perfect way to end the day - not overlooked, and nice to watch the moonrise in the early evenings in autumn/winter. Stanhope is a nice village with a great range of shops for supplies and good road links to Durham and beyond. Only thing stopping me giving 5 stars across the board is the lack of a dishwasher - but that’s a ‘boys job’ in my house lol

Wonderful accommodation and great location. Details for check in and departure could be a little clearer for example check in was from 3.30 but office only open until 4pm. Had to call to get further instructions on this when this could have easily been in email. Also on departure the email said to check the book for instructions but nothing was in here about rubbish, bed linen, key etc. Just minor things that would help. Accommodation was fantastic

  • "Lovely apartment, garden, grounds and village."

We loved it here it was so relaxing. The village had everything we needed close at hand and lovely walks without having to drive. Staying here was staying in the countryside with amenities walking distance, very relaxing and peaceful. Loved the extras in the apartment, toiletries, dressing gowns, cleaning products etc. Our only criticisms would be the bedroom. The blinds do not shut out any light and we were woken early every morning. The main bedroom also needs a new mattress. Otherwise thank you for a lovely holiday

The accommodation itself was stunning as well as the grounds it was set in and the little lad never found himself bored with the playpark on the back garden! Along with that the village itself, Stanhope, was a beautiful little village with absolutely everything you would need right on your doorstep. Quite literally a perfect trip away and one we’ll 100% do again.

Right in Stanhope centre so handy for takeaway meals if your too busy out and about for cooking. Weardale is a very pretty part of the country. Nice walks if you get the weather. We shall most certainly return to Knight’s Corner again. The only negative was, because I have walking issues, were the seven stairs leading into/out of the apartment, it only being the one way to enter. A handrail would be a great help but maybe as it is a listed building, that may not be possible. A dishwasher would have been very handy also if there was somewhere to have one installed. A very enjoyable holiday and look forward to returning.

  • "Great accommodation, the garden at Knights Corner is much larger than we expected."

Perfectly located for walks. Due to Covid most places that serve food are closed but other places are open in villages a few miles away. My only issue was the double bed. On the first night the wooden lats underneath the mattress had come loose (unbeknown to me) and the mattress was dipped making it incredibly uncomfortable. After being advised the following day by the owner that we should pull up the mattress and fix the lats back in and turn the mattress it was more comfortable - so just a heads up, apparently this happens a lot. Otherwise this was a great and comfortable stay!

The apartment is spacious, well equipped and the bedrooms are extremely comfortable. The real highlights for us are the vast garden, that is very well looked after and perfect for kids and the hot tub. The village of Stanhope is picturesque and has some great local shops and takeaways. Our children also love the park. If you have concerns about going away during the pandemic, this is the perfect place to have a break away from it all. The owner and their team are very approachable and responsive to any queries. We always feel like we have had a proper break when we have been here and have already booked again for next year.

Very comfortable beds and good facilities. Few cleaning issues and attention to detail ie clock broken, tealight batteries run out, no TV in bedroom and not sky TV just broadband. We felt a dishwasher would be a good add and some shelves in the ensuite shower room for storage. We would definitely come back as received a warm welcome and it ticked a lot of boxes for us. Just needs a little spruce up in areas.

It could have benefited from having a dishwasher but since the Coronavirus lock down started while we were there, there was plenty of time to get the dishes done. Would love to have been able to enjoy the local attractions and pubs, but covid 19 curtailed that side of things. Still, if you had to Self Isolate, this property was Ideal. It even had its own play park for my granddaughter, and the hot tub was great for us older ones. Would certainly recommend Sykes to anyone who is looking for this type of accommodation.

Wow what a place to step into 2020 , Knights Corner is amazing and we loved every single second during our stay, the place was lovely and clean and the welcome goodies were a nice touch, my son loved the secret room and we all loved Bruce the Knight who stands outside on guard, we saw the New Year in from the lovely Hot Tub (one little niggle was no one checked the levels in the tub and we would have done gladly ourselves if told as by the 5th day it was pretty grim ) The gardens are lovely and we didn't expect a football pitch lol , I loved sitting and watching the squirrels on a morning and we loved the wood burner on a evening , we visited Stanhope village which was lovely and also a walk to the Stepping Stones is a much as its so pretty , lovely memories were made and hoping to be back to visit Knights Corner again and of course Bruce :)

  • "The location was superb."

The views from the garden stunning. Very comfortable inside. The bath in the main bathroom needs a little alteration. The water runs off the wall side onto the floor, making the floor tiles awash and very slippery. Perhaps the owners could do a little DIY to make this right. Also the front door key is very temperamental. It took a while to open on most occasions. I might be nit picking now but it would have been nice to have more than 2 toilet rolls for a whole week, and some washing up liquid would be good. Having said all that I would return to this property because of the wow factor and the location.

  • "This is a lovely modern apartment and the six of us had a wonderful week here."

It was comfy, clean and in a great location, plus the huge garden and hot tub were used every evening. We certainly wouldn't hesitate to recommend this apartment to anyone looking for a base in this area of the country. The kitchen is well equipped and the additional extras such as satellite TV, Bluetooth speakers, and a chimnea all helped make it a memorable stay. There are a couple of minor improvements which would have made us appreciate the stay even more. Whilst there was a lovely welcome pack provided with a bottle of fizz (thank you!), we ran out of washing-up liquid/loo roll/ washing powder/kitchen roll within a few days. It would have been nice if the owners could have ensured there was enough of all of these items to last a week and save us the expense of replacing them all. Also some instructions on how to work the hot tub would have been welcome too. We managed to sort an issue with the filter program not running by finding tutorial videos on YouTube, but it would have been nice if full user instructions had been provided. Finally, it's now 2 weeks since we left and we've yet to have the housekeeping bond returned to us which is a bit disappointing. Overall though these are just minor issues and didn't distract from a great holiday in a great place. We wouldn't hesitate recommending this place to anyone looking for a chilling break

The purpose built climbing frame, swings etc was really enjoyed by the children also. All the adults enjoyed sitting round the chiminea at night time with a glass of wine. The barbecue was only used once as the weather was not the best but it was easy to operate. The accommodation was really warm and comfortable, especially the beds they were a dream.

This is an amazing place which is beautifully decorated with lots of nice touches. The apartment is very comfortable and met our requirements as a family of 4 adults and a family of 2 adults sharing the space. The owner had left a hamper and Prosecco which was a lovely touch and also had put up a Christmas tree. The outside space is fantastic with an amazing hot tub and lots of seating areas to just chill and take in the views. We had Christmas dinner at the Bonny Moorhen pub which is literally just outside the castle gates, it was delicious and very reasonably priced and you get a warm welcome from the landlady, Zara. The local Indian takeaway is also worth a visit and there’s a co-op too for any bits and pieces. We really could have stayed here longer and would definitely recommend this apartment, it was just perfect.

  • "After some initial difficulty accessing the keybox for the main door (resolved by a quick call to the owner, reported to Sykes who confirmed I was safe while they tried to sort it out) we were delighted to find the apartment exactly as advertised."

The photos on the Sykes site were exactly what was there - no photo-shopping or funny angles necessary. The owner had provided an extensive welcome pack which really made our first night and covered all the necessities so often missing from holiday rentals (toilet roll, kitchen roll, salt and pepper, cooking oil, washing up liquid as well as groceries including milk, tea and coffee, beautiful bread and jam and even chocolates and prosecco!). The rooms were large and well appointed, and the bathroom and en-suite were perfect for our 3-generations group. All was spotlessly clean and smelled lovely with the vase of fresh flowers in the living room. The hot tub (one of the main reasons we picked this property) was superb - being covered but with lights etc meant we could use it even in the drizzle or the dark - and we enjoyed the company of the neighbourhood cat on one evening! Stanhope (and the nearby villages) has all the amenities you could need within walking distance but the apartment was beautifully quiet and private. Highly recommend this apartment.

The hot tub was used a lot and enjoyed by everybody. There was a generous welcome pack. The chimera was used every evening as we ate in the property. The playground equipment was also used by the children and we were surprised to see that this was for our sole use in a large garden. The house had a very modern kitchen and bathrooms. Wallpaper and furniture seemed to complement the castle theme. Beds were very comfortable. Just outside the bottom gate are two pubs and you are right in the centre of the village shopping area. The Co-op was very well stocked. Railway enthusiasts would be pleased to see the award winning station on the Weardale Railway that has a service on some days to Bishop Auckland. We visited High Force waterfall on the Tees and the Killhope Lead Mining Museum where we all went underground. Both are well worth a visit and not too far away. Sunday was spent at Beamish Museum about 30 minutes away. This is highly recommended and despite being a hot school holiday weekend, did not feel crowded. There was plenty of car parking space. All in all very recommended with no drawbacks. We would go again.
