It is only a short walk from a very pretty town and lots of woodland walks along the river. We could have stayed longer as lots more to discover in the surrounding area. We had a day in Durham with its beautiful cathedral and visited the high and low force waterfalls, which were definitely worth a visit, but spent the majority of our week exploring the local footpaths and visiting Bowes museum.

The property

1 The Riverside, A luxury 2 bedroom apartment in an award winning Grade II listed development.

Perfectly situated, the apartment looks onto the floodlit remains of Barnard Castle and also has spectacular views of the River Tees from the living room and master bedroom windows.

Dating back to the late 1700's , once a weavers cottage and immersed in local history, the apartment had now been brought into the 21st Century with all mod cons and boasting a floodlit glass floor panel giving direct views down into the original cellar.

The addition of a 55" surround sound TV and Sonos music system enhance the lovingly created modern interior and high specification of the apartment.

Step out of the front door and in a few minutes walk you are into the centre of the historical market town of Barnard Castle, its' many antique shops, high street, shops, pubs and restaurants are but a few minutes walk.

Alternatively, follow the banks of the River Tees to the left or right and you will have joined the 'Teesdale Way', enjoying spectacular scenery in either direction.

Don't forget 'The Bowes Museum', a jewel in Barnard Castle's crown and home to the iconic Silver Swan.

The most perfect place to stay for discovering this remarkable historical market town and surrounding areas.

About the location

BARNARD CASTLE

Staindrop 6 miles; Richmond 13 miles; Darlington 16 miles; Durham 20 miles.

The market town of Barnard Castle is situated in the unspoilt countryside of Teesdale in County Durham. It stands on the site of an ancient Roman fort which crosses the river. The medieval ruins of the castle still tower over the river and are well worth a visit. Known affectionately as 'Barney’ by residents and visitors alike, the town boasts cobble streets, yards and back lanes, which were first laid out in the 12th century. The nearby Bowes Museum is well worth a visit and a wonderful way to spend a day wandering around this beautiful building and experiencing the fascinating exhibitions. Beautiful walking country is right on the doorstep of this lovely market town, with woodland walks and cycle routes and the Lake District, the Pennine and Teesdale Ways, and the River Tees and magnificent waterfalls at High Force are all within easy reach.
