  • "I was part of a group of ladies catching up for a long weekend."

Everything was great, especially the location, situated just off the main street of Barnard Castle and a short walk from the river for walking. The only small negative was, that on arrival, we could not initially find the welcome book, which we eventually, after much hunting, found under a stack of magazines on the bottom shelf of a coffee table. Once located, we could access the WiFi!

  • "The property is what it says except for the parking!"

. Space is very limited and very awkward even for one small car! With 1-2 big cars impossible. More accurate to say park on the road outside and there is normally space there most days even market days . Leave the information booklet on the kitchen counter. Did not find it until 2 days into the holiday!! Instruction relatingto sheets towels could be clearer in how to leave them and bins every alternative Thursday? How do we know which week? Just little things to make better not criticism. Staff at Hotel friendly enough Property is comfortable, good quality and everything works!

  • "The house was well equipped and very comfortable."

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Thought I should point out the hoover left at the property was helpful as we had young children with us. The power cord needs checking though as it had a tear in it. The rubbish required separating for recycling and general waste however there is only one bin inside the house. It would be helpful to provide clearly marked bins inside the house. The location of the carriage house was fantastic, we had such a good time we have booked to come again next year!

  • "The Carriage House ( as I told the owners) was absolutely 5 star."

The quality of all amenities both inside and outside ( as in the Courtyard at the back) were perfect. We have booked many excellent holiday cottages and villas over the years and this was the best of all!!! We found Skye Cottages very efficient too. The added bonus was great weather and very central to Barnard Castle amenities such as restaurants; supermarkets; shops and bars.

Only thing i would say is some of the information leaflets about places to go need updating. Also the recycling and rubbish bin info was confusing. Otherwise it was very clean and in a fantastic location. Great holiday .

Off-road parking for two cars. The location was particularly good - right in the middle of the town (but quiet at night) so we could walk to shops, pubs, restaurants - I recommend The Three Horseshoes Sunday lunch, Rise bakery, and 149 fish and chips - absolutely divine! A short walk to Bowes museum is a great day out. Surrounding countryside was just lovely - the Dales are stunning!

  • "The property was nicely appointed and clean."

Was in a good central location. The property was cold on arrival and would have benefited from the heating being on in advance. The parking proved to be an issue. The small courtyard we were told on arrival was for our use only. On arriving back to the property after a day out we couldn't park as two cars were in the courtyard. I had to go to the Hotel where the keys were collected from and reported the problem. The member of staff I spoke to seemed to know straightaway who was parked there and got them to move the cars. As this is clearly an ongoing issue it needs to be resolved.

House was warm, kitchen well equipped and beds very comfortable. It's very, very quiet for such a central location too! The sofa and armchairs in the lounge could do with replacing (the springs have gone in places), but were comfortable enough and this didn't bother the kids one bit! Enormous smart TV in the main lounge and broadband good enough to stream a film via a Chromecast. Would recommend.

The walled garden was nice to relax in after a busy day, the bonus of 2 car parking spaces was really good as it could get busy around the surrounding streets. The location of the house was perfect to wonder around Barnard Castle and to Walk to Bowes Museum. We travelled to Durham and Richmond in about 30 mins so great place to travel from. Most things are open but due to Covid you do need to be organised and book in for meals as there are not as many places open as there would normally be, the Three Horseshoes who own the Carriage House do a nice meal, I would happily go back to this house and would recommend it to anyone

About the location

BARNARD CASTLE

Staindrop 6 miles; Richmond 13 miles; Darlington 16 miles; Durham 20 miles.

The market town of Barnard Castle is situated in the unspoilt countryside of Teesdale in County Durham. It stands on the site of an ancient Roman fort which crosses the river. The medieval ruins of the castle still tower over the river and are well worth a visit. Known affectionately as 'Barney’ by residents and visitors alike, the town boasts cobble streets, yards and back lanes, which were first laid out in the 12th century. The nearby Bowes Museum is well worth a visit and a wonderful way to spend a day wandering around this beautiful building and experiencing the fascinating exhibitions. Beautiful walking country is right on the doorstep of this lovely market town, with woodland walks and cycle routes and the Lake District, the Pennine and Teesdale Ways, and the River Tees and magnificent waterfalls at High Force are all within easy reach.
