  • "This house was absolutely perfect."

Large, comfortable and very clean. Fully equipped kitchen with everything you could possibly need. The views were outstanding. The back garden was quite steeply sloped but plenty of flat areas to sit and for children to play Great communication with the owner Mel and bond refunded in full very quickly. Recommend the Wensleydale dairy ice cream cafe about a mile or so out of the village. Amazing ice creams but also toasties, cakes etc.

I feel that it’s very irresponsible not to provide this. Twin beds mattress’s were very uncomfortable but the other beds were all great. Lots space in the house, had everything you could need. Fantastic garden with amazing views!

Thank you for your feedback. Our environment is very important to us, which is why we use Yorwaste. Yorwaste allow our guests to dispose of all their rubbish into the large bin at the front of the drive, without having to sort it before their weekly collection. All recyclables such as paper, cardboard, glass, plastic and metal being put through our Materials Recycling Facility. They are then taken by bulk transport by accredited companies to licensed facilities where they are transformed back into new products and reused. Any material that can't be recycled is taken to a state-of-the-art Energy from Waste treatment facility in North Yorkshire. Here, the waste is converted into energy, producing enough electricity to power thousands of homes across York and North Yorks. We hope this helps with your concerns, and look forward to you visiting the Dales again. Property Owner

  • "A good stay overall for my fortieth birthday gathering with 8 friends."

One main toilet didn’t flush and plumber couldn’t fix it so most used the downstairs one. Beds could do with mattress protectors. One fire chimney blocked but plenty of wood for us to use on the other kitchen log burner. House was very clean and very well equipped , especially the kitchen and nice bottle of wine to welcome us. Lovely surroundings and peaceful. Disappointed with lack of communication after we left to discuss the issues we had.

Thank you for your feedback. The plumber repaired the toilet on Monday when he had sourced the part, but as you mentioned you still had the use of the toilet in bedroom One and the downstairs toilet. We have replaced the bed frames & mattresses is Bedroom Three & Four and added new mattress protectors/Toppers. Not sure why the chimney seemed blocked as we had both chimneys professionally swept in late 2019. We were in constant communication throughout your stay and you agreed an acceptable reimbursement and that you looked forward to staying again. Property Owner

  • "What A Magical Place to Spend The new Year We enjoyed an amazing family holiday at Pinehurst over the New Year with all our children (all now adults) and grandson - 9 people and 2 dogs in total."

What can I say…well the house was exactly as described, though even better in real life than the photos showed. It was easy to find and well signposted at the end of the village in a beautifully quiet location with amazing views and wonderfully clean and well maintained gardens. The house itself was perfect for our large family needs with enough bedrooms, bathrooms and living space for us all, so that we were not “on top of each other” and all had space to relax and do “our own thing” whilst enough living and dining space to come together in the evenings for some precious family time. As the cook in the house, I particularly found the extensive and well equipped kitchen/dining area perfect for our needs with enough space to be able to easily prepare a roast New Years Day dinner for us all. The fridge/freezer, I might add, was like a Tardis and was large enough for us all to do a “big shop” at the beginning of our stay, and I kept finding drawers etc with food in them throughout the week. Even though it was late December/January and it is a large house, we never needed to light either of the 2 fires as the house was lovely and warm…much as we wanted to. Loads of great features and lovely finishing touches, one being the large dog/walking friendly reception area which lead into the kitchen which meant it was easy to remove muddy boots and clean the dogs after a days walking, and the most AMAZING Christmas welcome basket I’ve ever seen, red wine, white wine, cheese, biscuits, jams, pickles etc – absolutely lovely - Need to book over the festive season again :-) The owners Mel and Tony communicated everything to us well in advance so that we had a most amazing time – and we will certainly return – thanks again Mark & Julie Chatterton, family and dogs xx

The view shown on the website cannot be seen until one is halfway down the drive! We were very annoyed to find dog excrement in the back garden; this meant we could not allow two young children to play there! Otherwise, the property was as described & we enjoyed our stay.

Thank you for your feedback. We are in the process of having a new house sign supplied and fitted to wall at the front of the property. The wonderful views across the Dales are mainly from the back of the house as you can clearly see from the photos on the website. Our apologies for the dog excrement in the garden, even though we allow dogs we work very hard to keep our gardens clean off dog mess as we are a family friendly property. We were pleased to hear you and your family thoroughly enjoyed your stay at Pinehurst and we were so glad to be able to return 'Rufus' the bear to you. Property Owner

We did have problems with the toilet off and on and it was a bit of an inconvenience having this toilet out of order in the only bathroom in the house! Gorgeous views from the property and pleasant grounds. Would certainly book again. Bedding and towels WHITE no greyness!

Thank you for your feedback, the third bathroom is something we are looking at for the future. Being a Bank Holiday, we were unable to get the plumber there until the Tuesday, but by then the en-suite push button flush on the toilet had released itself. The other Two toilets were in full working order throughout. We are very glad to hear you enjoyed your stay at Pinehurst. Property Owner

We visited the cottage for my Dad's 70th Birthday. There were 8 of us aged 70 to 18. We stayed 26th-30th March. The cottage was perfect, it exceeded expectation. Prior to visiting, the owner Gill contacted us and was so helpful with local information. Whilst there we had every weather going but the scenery was always amazing especially the view from the back patio area. The cottage was well equipped with everything you could need. Although there are plenty of excellent pubs and restaurants near by we ate in because we had all the facilities and played games most evenings. Everything in the house was top quality so I fully appreciate why the owner requires a bond. The cottage is so welcoming and you immediately feel at home. I would highly recommend this property to anyone - the perfect retreat. Plus my dad was over joyed with his present and the chance for the family to spend quality time together.

We spent a week here over the New Year break with family and it exceeded all our expectations. The house itself provided everything we could possibly need, as well as a beautiful Christmas Tree and hamper full of festive treats and a couple of bottles of wine!! Everywhere was extremely spotless. All the rooms were tastefully decorated and it felt like home in a very short time. Set in a small village, not far from Aysgarth Falls and other local towns. The gardens were massive and the children enjoyed investigating them. The view on our first morning (with the snow) was like a picture postcard. All of us would definitely recommend this property - there were 6 adults and 6 children in our party and it suited us perfectly.

Not everyone could make the full week, so the arrivals and departures over the week were staggered, but the location and parking area was perfect for this. We had 4 cars parked on the property but there would still be room for a couple more. What a fabulous cottage, so well equipped with everything you could ever need for a home from home. The kitchen is well equipped with crockery, glasses and cooking equipment and we successfully cooked several meals. Beds were comfortable There are lots of added extras like DVDs, board games and we had a lovely hamper waiting for us on arrival with some games and tasty treats. The cottage is clean, well presented and with tasteful decor. Wifi is an added extra, and surprisingly the 4G mobile signal was good for those of us that needed to keep in touch. We visited some lovely places nearby, The Forbidden Corner (only open Sundays in winter) is a great attraction fun for kids (and big kids) of all ages, Aysgarth falls are beautiful with a lovely tea room by the bridge, and also the Green Dragon (lovely pie lunch) at Hardraw where you can visit Hardraw Force - England's largest single drop waterfall. There's so much more to see and do and we have discussed coming back one summer! Well done to the owners and team on such a great holiday home. None of us wanted to leave when it was time to go home.

About the location

THORNTON RUST

Aysgarth 2 miles; Hawes 7 miles.

The idyllic village of Thornton Rust is situated high on the south side of the Wensleydale, just two miles from Aysgarth and three miles from Bainbridge. Thornton Rust is a quiet and peaceful backwater, approached from either side by a winding country lane which opens out unexpectedly to a pretty village of wide, grass verges, stone cottages and panoramic views of Wensleydale. The area is a walker's paradise and includes the well known tourist attractions of Aysgarth Falls and the impressive Bolton Castle which dates back to 1379. Aysgarth Falls have attracted visitors for over 200 years, famously Ruskin, Turner and Wordsworth all visited and enthused about the 'falls' outstanding beauty. In the 19th century nearby Aysgarth was a staging post and many a traveller would make their way down to view the falls from the bridge. Today, many will recognise the Upper Falls from the film Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves. In the nearby Freeholders' Wood, where the ancient art of coppicing is still carried out and visitors will find hazel, ash and wild cherry, among others. The woodland is carpeted with wildflowers in spring and is home to over 120 species. An excellent holiday location for walkers, offering a great base from which to explore both Wensleydale and Swaledale, with beauty spots in the area including Aysgarth Falls, Semerwater, castles at both Bolton and Middleham and of course, Hardraw Force - England's highest single drop waterfall at 99ft!
